@veekie I think you are severely underselling the utility Max + Johann combo by describing it just as "most likely to give us trouble".

It's also the most potent for research and investigation by far, for the least action cost.

Johann is plain too valuable to pass up, and Max saves actions and is Favor-neutral by writing Compelling papers. He main even get to thrilling ones with practice.

Avatar might be a unique occurrence we can't pick up again. On the other hand is it actually a positive thing? It's rare to have the chance to get Kuru but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to go ahead and get it.

Basically Avatar is a mystery box. It might be very good, it might be very bad, it might not do all that much at all. Compared to the other traits which definitely do some very positive things it's hard to find it convincing to take.
why would boney punish us for success? thats the mark of a bad GM, and boney is definitely not that

The trait only gives protection against Chaos. Remember that shrine to Stormfels we found in the Sunken Palace. He and others gods like him aren't Chaos but are still evil and they would have an easier time messing with Mathilde if she gets noticed by them.
Ranald and us are literally best bros, and he got a power boost recently, any hostile god that tries to mess with us is asking to get robbed blind.

He confirmed that it lets us resist Chaos Gods; it's detractors immediately started claiming that it would automatically make us less resistant to Order gods, which he never said (see above). I am attempting to dispel misinformation around the vote.

None of the other traits have any downsides whatsoever, so claiming this one does is a significant stretch. Furthermore, a significant portion of the thread has been talking about pursuing some kind of Ulgu Theurgy for quite a while, and getting used to challenging the power of gods certainly seems like the kind of thing that would be the first step down that road.

Well, technically he only said it would help resist the Chaos Gods, not Gork and Mork or the Horned Lords.

Seems pretty good I guess, not that it's likely to ever come up again.

Still not as good as stuffing Great Shamans so hard the entire battle goes belly up, or cutting a warboss's head off without him even noticing. But pretty good.

Where does it say it's only against Chaos gods?

Being able to fight off what are the most powerful gods, by a wide margin, in the setting certainly leads to being able to fight off lesser ones.

The trait is that you are so used to it, that you are able to actually do something about it.
 
Being used to Godly possession would imply that you're able to do more than just go along with it. That's all you're getting. ??? means the vagueness is deliberate, not 'keep asking'.

I mean, claiming that we can't resist being possessed by Gork and Mork with the trait we got by being possessed by Mork, that explicitly increases our resistance to possession, seems, uh, counterintuitive. And also Boney seems to have confirmed its all godly possessions.

Their was also a chance for Ranald to die during his confrontation with Mork.
Just because he rolled well doesn't mean we should go looking for more opportunities for him to roll the dice and risk dying or powering up.

Personal Wealth: 255 gold crowns, 2752 silver ingots to be spent within the Karaz Ankor, 734 silver ingots that can be spent freely. Each ingot is worth 60 Dwarven silver coins or 4 gold crowns.
@BoneyM, is "within the Karaz Ankor" the restriction that we're using here rather than "on behalf of the Karaz Ankor"? I ask because this is likely to become very relevant quite soon. To illustrate this, some examples:
  1. Belegar asks us to solve a problem related to a magical topic, like waystones or warpstone. We naturally want to get +5 to our library from everything the College knows on the topic to maximize our roll, which means paying them 250g+4 College Favors for it.
  2. Some Tilean mercenaries show up at Karak Eight Peaks and we hire them for a job supporting Karak Eight Peaks' interests.
  3. The EIC wants to build cannon factories, and they can get much better cannon factories if the dwarves help. We pay some of Zhufbar's engineers to build it for them, in both silver and favors.
  4. We go on a shopping trip in Barak Varr and buy a bunch of exotic things to poke at for our personal research.
  5. We employ craftsdwarfs of Karak Eight Peaks to build us quality new furniture for our shiny new penthouse wizard tower.
In case 1, the Karaz Ankor is clearly benefiting from the purchase, but the money is spent within and goes to the Empire. In case 2, the Karaz Ankor benefits and the money is spent there geographically, but clearly goes to a different group. In case 3, it's the Empire benefiting and that's where the money is spent geographically, but it goes to dwarf craftsmen. Case 4, the money is spent within the Karaz Ankor but it benefits Mathilde and goes to random merchants who probably aren't dwarfs. In case 5, money is clearly given to dwarfs but it's purely a personal purchase for Mathilde's benefit.

I do not mean to be trying to nitpick or cheat the Grey College here; I just want to understand what we've told them and agreed to so that we can actually abide by the spirit of what we said we'd do. If it's just "make sure that you're being somehow dwarf-related when spending this" then potentially all of the cases above are fine. If we have some kind of more strict restriction then that will be important to bear in mind when making plans, and we need to clear up the exact interpretation- does the money need to end up in dwarf hands, does it need to be spent in a way that benefits dwarfs at large, does it need to be spent in a dwarf-controlled location, or is there some other hard rule to follow?

Johann and Max alone means we only got two Winds perspective. We want three for awesome papers.

Johann is BEYOND AMAZING for our job though.

-Everyone. We're the freaking Court Wizard, we want a staff, not a department of one. 2 actions for 4(Amber), 2(Jade), 4(Gold) is a bargain. We don't need to personally intervene for most job tasks.

Would it be that potent for research though since we already know the two refuse to work with each other so there's definitely going to be issues if we want both of them helping with the same project
 
For me traits, choosing traits is not only about their usefullness, but also about commemorating and emphasizing the highlights of the campaign.

And to me, the most memorable and significant part was the Robbery of Mork, with waaghnoping and strategic assasinations being tied for a second.

There is only one trait really connected to the God Robbery, and it's Avatar. For me, that is a mandatory pock, regardless of it's usefullness.

For the second trait, there is a lot of options which relate to either scouting/sabotage/assasination or magic manipulation, so I start to look at usefullness.

And given that we are about to finally start snakejuice research and our official job is about poking weird shit, windsage (commemorating waaghnoping and representing better familiarity with magic that is not ulgu) seems like the best pick.
 
@BoneyM Does the Magic skill we picked up boost or Magic stat like the other skills or is this only if explicitly called out in the skill?
