I'd like to point out, for those arguing against voting to include the Sewer Jacks;

They're underground.

Our home-shrine-fort is underground.

"Remember, lads, if you see an odd grey door down there, and hear a lot of 'oops!' and derp-sounding noises, you don't see it, you were never there, and any dead rats nearby aren't at all suspicious."

@BoneyM, does Mathilde have any idea how valuable Qhyash Juice would be to mages? Could she sent very small amount to her master asking for opinion?

If I am right, it will be very valuable. I am thinking in terms of Power Stone. Each type of mage can create power stone for their specific wind of magic. Creating true qhyash power stone would require cooperation of masters of all winds of magic... and keeping it balanced would be close to impossible.

Anyway, hardest part of creating power stone is to make energy material and actually make it stable. And "Qhyash juice"? It is stable already. It's material already. And it is balances combination of all wind of magic. While I have no idea how far it is from real structured Qhyash power stone, but all biggest issues seem to be already solved.

To quote a wiki:
somehow imposing physical laws upon it, until eventually is became like a glistening yellow mist, then a sparkling yellow liquid, then eventually a kind of semi-translucent golden stone that shone with an inner light.
And Mathilde already have steady supply of materialized and stable essence of magic.

If I guess right, then it could be much more valuable than archmages. As an object of research if nothing else. If she ever needs money - that could be it.

One key problem is- if it's that valuable, and knowledge gets out that we have (possibly the only) source- there are very many, far more powerful interests around (Dark Elves, High Elves, Skaven, even the Colleges, various Black Wizards, Chaos cults, Vampire Necromancers...) that could be highly motivated to just take pure magic juice and the source (Weber's Box) from her. By stealth, force, greater claim, politics, etc. Maybe or maybe not taking/killing/worse her at the same time.

I wonder how the thieves are going to react to the Watch's underground strength increasing. I mean, sure we can probably manage to juggle this to a degree, but I kind of feel like it's guaranteed that the thieves are going to take a massive hit from this, which, honestly, I rather like. I'd prefer the thieves remain extremely weak, if the flip side is a very strong city watch.

Stirland Watch is not going ever break from from a hot pursuit of criminals. Ever.

Because the underground economy must be regulated and licenced smuggling is good for the derp. What do you mean that's not how it works?

Sounds like we need to set up a cover story, then.
Mathilde arranges to raid somewhere plausibly magic-associated, and there 'finds' a small vial containing only a few droplets of liquid magicstuff, and sends that to the Grey Order asking questions about it. "I recovered this from the secret archives of such-and-such organization." So if any of the major powers want to chase down that stuff, they'll be distracted into going after the person/organization where Mathilde claims to have found it.

Not good enough. We'd want to send that vial anonymously, preferably not from Stirland itself.

Actually is should be good enough. Mathilda is a spymaster for an elector.

If anyone in province have resources to hide something and keep something safe well - it's her. And as for stronger opponent... she lives in castle of elector, behind protection of Greatswords. There is close to nothing that can force the issue - unless it's undead army, in which case everyone have much bigger problem.

sends that to the Grey Order
I would start with sending to her old master. Cover story is OK - but let's not publish it widely yet. It would make sense to start with a trusted person first.

Mathilde lives alone in a buried townhouse with a bunch of cats who stop her placing even the simplest of wards. And we still have an action to examine it ourselves first- that is what Wizards do. As the QM said, asking for help is admitting we're not good enough ourselves. We're not at that point.

Fair enough. I hope that we'll get to that examination soon, then.

I would honestly prefer to keep the name as it is because there is no reason to change it. I also agree that integrating the rat-catchers is the best thing to fold completely in to the watch because we are trying to lock the capital of Stirland down and the Riverwardens would not really help us with that at the moment.
BoneyM I would like to ask about the state of the Stir River Patrol at this time and how that would interact with us getting involved with Riverwardens.

-[X] If we've got vampire troubles, maybe you should spend some time investigating how to counter vampiric infiltration.
-[X] The Wurtbadian Watch is now your pet. Given more time, you can make it your attack dog.
-[X] Write In: Given the many forms and threats of undead in the region, perhaps it might be useful to have a dedicated unit to track them down and dissect them to learn how to better kill the things, how they might form, and how they might disguise or hide their nature, so as to actually push the undead back permanently. Something like what you did together on the transformed servants, but on a bigger scale.
-[X] Write In: While we're working with the Wurtbad Watch, the theft of the documents has made it clear that Stirland needs Riverwardens. That having been said, we also don't want to further alienate the veterans of the WW by forcing them to ignore Wurtbad in favor of watching the waterways, so we're asking for Van Hal's permission and Gustav's assistance to set up a province-wide network, similar to that of the Road-wardens. Except with boats.

[X] [WatchDuty] Riverwardens: With the addition of a fleet of very small warships, the Watch extend their reach onto the waterways of Stirland, fighting piracy and smuggling in the rivers that are the Empire's lifeblood.

She has an inkling, but any actual idea will have to wait until she dedicates time to studying it.

Based out of and funded by Talabecland, have been for over thirty years. Expanding into the waterways would require either 'reclaiming' them or building a force from scratch.

-[X] The Watch is now legally under the office of the Spymaster and no longer doing their own thing on the city's budget. If anyone has areas of concern regarding law enforcement needing attention they could bring it up as well.
--[X] You'd also want to talk to Kasmir about arranging some appropriate spiritual guidance for the Watch, since it doesn't have anything formal set up, and this being Stirland, they could probably use someone to talk to when they come across dead bodies, or help answer the more complicated questions they encounter in the course of their duties, like when some burgher are simply following a legal cult too enthusiastically rather than conducting an unholy sacrifice to the dark powers.

-[X] Much to your chagrin the efforts at setting up a lab had been hit yet again by the latest fashion statement. Which was your own damned fault. You hope this is funding expansion in somebody's fancy glassware industries somewhere and the price drops once the fad wears out.
-[X] In addition to publicly taking over the Watch, you've also put in agents throughout the middle layers to make sure that thing with the servants never happens again.
-[X] Apparently you've somehow captured the Wisdom's Asp in such a manner that it got stuck threading between the mirrors, so it's half alive and half dispersed, half in the material realm and half in the Warp...well this particular snake is not going to reform as slain daemons and their ilk are wont to while the box exists. Unfortunately the method wouldn't work safely on anything BUT a Wisdom's Asp, and it'd have to be very very unlucky or extremely stupid to get stuck in this exact manner.
-[X] The lands you were granted for your knighthood were very well suited to your limited availability to oversee the estates. Thanks for that.

-[X] You kind of regret learning exactly what you did to the Thorned One, but you did it. But the liquid leaking out? That's still an unknown. Will Van Hal let you look into it on the clock?
-[X] The spell used by the informants is like nothing you've heard of before. You want to see if you can detect or replicate it.

That is good to know and reclaiming them sounds like the perfect job for our Grey Wizard Spymistress.

Cue inter-provincial Count and co intrigue. :V The League was less of a hassle due to their backer's fall, but those currently in control of the river patrol would be less than impressed.

Speaking of Talabecland, we still really need to look into Schultz. It's one thing to know where his loyalty lies, but another to know what he does. The professor was a great example of how someone could blindside us even when we know his loyalty.

While it's my personal opinion that he's going to hurt Stirland's wallet by feeding Talabecland insider trade info, I'd like to get some more insight into his character.
