Curious, any detailed difference between court wizard and the other options. Court wizard seem like the most broad position to take.
On phone right now so can't make a long post but Court Wizard feels monster-of-the-weekish to me. I like steward because we can have big long term plans.

I also feel like a spy network of that scale would be great for rep.

Honestly, I'm fine with any of the Council positions. Maybe I would favor External less than the others, but I'd still be happy with it. Legit surprised by that.

I am strongly in favor of this marriage. For people who are worried about 'settling down', it's not that big of a deal. We'd be a Baroness, it's not like we need to stay home to mend socks or something. We'd still be almost entirely free to pursue our own projects. Anton is a good man, we both like each other and would both help each other. Honestly, if we weren't a wizard, his dad probably would have pushed him towards us on his own.

[X] Court Wizard

I'm going to lay this out right now because it's the only one I'm sure of. A nice compromise allowing concentration on research, but also getting out there to attend to the weirdest and wildest stuff. Let's solve problems no one else understands.

Oh? So when Mathilde is expected to have an heir with him, you think she wouldn't settle down a bit? I just can't imagine Mathilde neglecting her kids given her traumatic separation while she herself was a child.

Loved the visit back home, both Altdorf and Stirland. Still, I share Mathilde's worry of Roswita going to far… maybe one should tell her not to cut her own purse at some point? Keep her from being a small-scale economic Dieter IV.
I'm likewise sure your acquisitions will remain benign, and there will be need for any of those little loopholes to become a noose.
I certainly hope this should have a "no" before "need".
The man at the desk doesn't glances up from his papers.
"doesn't glance"

Edit: Kind of sad that Mathilde did not go "I knew it!" when the Magister was revealed. Several posters at least figured it out early.

She would settle down a bit, but yeah, it's not like we won't have any time to save the world. If Elector Counts can manage it, wizards probably can too. Especially with things like Shadowsteeds and gyrocopters.

I really don't like this marriage. If we wanted to stay in Stirland, maybe, but we are moving on to K8P, and I want to do stuff there, not commute in and out of Stirland.

And that's fair, there's obviously some things you wouldn't want to involve your spouse in, like being the designated hatchet men. But in terms of adventurousness, about being able to talk about all the wonders and possibilities that have been afforded to them because of their non-traditional lifestyle? To put it this way, I don't think we want to share those ugly slit throats that make up so much of Mathilde's job, but sharing in the beauty and future those slit throats create? I think that would be good for her.

Like Anton's awesome, but do we ever see him witnessing the awesome scope of Barak Varr with us? Of seeing the eight peaks that we fought for? Of seeing the wonders and achievements the Dwarfs made and lost, and feeling a flicker of their urge to reclaim them? To grasp that increasingly distance feeling of accomplishment and pride at what you've made for yourselves? In a spouse, I'd want someone who understands what we've done and why we do what we do beyond an intellectual level. Anton is great, but his sort of boyish innocence is one of his biggest features and a big part of his current issue, and that doesn't beget that sort of understanding.
The marry him soon option has Anton spending weekends with us in K8P.

I'm sorry, Anton the Diplomancer doesn't have great skill? He is absurdly skilled, and he earned Mathilde's respect (to her surprise) long ago.
You're right and I should clarify what I mean. Anton is very good at what he does; he has great technique. What he lacks is abstraction: reflection on his skill and an appreciation of the broader context in which it fits. He's astonishingly good at making friends and finding compromises that leave people not feeling too hard done by, but he's fundamentally so wholly practical that he can't really apply it elsewhere, and he's kind of reliant on people to protect him from actual malicious manipulation because what he does only works as long as everyone is fundamentally dealing in good faith.

Contrast this to van Hal or Belgar, who have pre-existing skills and biases, but the mental flexibility to view what they do from a number of different angles, change their mind about things, and correct us when they see us falling into a mistake relative to their areas of expertise. Anton isn't an abstract thinker and we never see him do that sort of thing, and I think that's what we need in a partner.
