I suppose it is, but that kind of malleability seems very unlike runic magic from everything we have seen of it.
You're not wrong, but it's the sort of thing where we can't determine for sure if it's a factor without a tool where we know that it isn't a factor. And again, even if it's not relevant to Bok, it very easily could be one for other uses we turn the seviroscope to.

Hmm. At least my previous speculation about Bok having one rune set engraved on its 'soul' isn't actively disproved. Maybe some decade we'll be able into take some time to dig into it as a helpful example of possible Elementalism turned up to 11 or 13 and anchored by Runes.

Bok himself is a literal priceless treasure of the Karaz Ankor being studied by the eldest Runesmith of that realm, if the device does nothing beyond allow him to understand and replicate those runes it will have proven itself worth making several times over to a dwarf perspective and its not like we are going to mas produce the things so the dwarf perspective is the one that matters here.

"To get things out of the way, yes I'm a grey lady magister, yes that means I have to look out for other magic users going bad, no you haven't done anything to make me suspicious, and no I'm not going to be paying you any special attention in that regard. Now with that done- want to see a library run entirely by spiders?"

I read that part as from her time with the EIC, it being the people looking down on her for her origins, something about rubbing shoulders with "important folk" who cared?
I would hope that Wilhelmina mostly kept Eike's origins to herself.

Her trait says she learned 'at a very young age'. I don't believe she joined Wilhelmina until she was 8 or so?

By the time she has anything to do with the EIC she was not no one anymore. But the kind of environments in which a courtesan moves are very status conscious and the bastard of said courtesan very low status. It did not even have to be her mother, just everyone around her.

I suspect the best people to make a seviroscope would be elven archmages. If there's one who's a member of Sarvoir's house we may be able to cut a deal at some point.

Probably. Although being honest I'll be more than satisfied with one made by the Colleges.

Talking about elves do we know what kind of Witchsight do they have? Does it changes from individual to individual or is it the same for everyone?

Sadly I suspect Khorne will take up yoga and meditation before Kragg uses anything made by one. Realistically I think it is Mathilde or bust for any magic he would use.

Thorek might well be tempted though, and Kragg might find it hard to deny him access.

Probably. Although being honest I'll be more than satisfied with one made by the Colleges.

Well, elven Witchsight seems to be a species wide inherent sense rather than a mutation as it is for humans, so it may just be another sense that's not experienced synesthetically, but that their Old One designed brains have the structures to process as it's own thing.

I do kinda want to take a "Learn Scouting with the Dwarven Rangers: Take Eike" action next turn.
  • Finishing the (2/3) will get us +1 intrigue. If there were an action for buying books that would get us a +1 on every single intrigue-based topic that exists, the thread would probably go for it. So mechanically it's pretty good.
  • We also need to take an intrigue action with Eike at some point to find out what she's rocking for her score (and maybe her unidentified skill). And more time with Best Apprentice is never wasted.
  • Scouting seems like a very useful skill to have gotten competency in before heading off to Naggaryth to hunt Druchii.
I'm not sure how it'll best fit, though. "Apparition/Rubbings/Windfall, Waystone Foundations with everyone, Liminal Realms, Girlscouts with Eike"? Maybe leave Liminal Realms for when the Panic Room is back in action for a full-on AV/Morbs turn the following round, and use that freed action for a second Waystones option?

The Elementalism information was super neat! I wonder if my semi-shitpost about studying their energies in the R.U.N. would actually be viable. Maybe throw in a wall with a Rune of Valaya on it (and a glass pane) between Mathilde and the elementalist to keep things clean.

I'm blindsided by Eike being a boat nerd. That's 3 for 3 on important Stirland Personages of the future being navally related or interested (Anton III, Marcher Nyklaus, and now Eike). Must be Someone in the water :p.

I'm pretty sure he would not, with Thorek being as busy as he is trying to reform the guild.

It would be much easier to reform the Guild* if he can dunk on other Runelords with his knowledge.

* interestingly, from conservations about the guilds with Boney before, guilds aren't transnational institutions. The guilds of each Karak are completely separate with no authority over each other.

This came up in the discussion of the Engineers.

That means that Thorek presumably needs to convince each hold's runesmiths' guild one by one.

My understanding is that there are overarching guilds, but any notional authority and inter-Karak comradery is generally pretty small because of how separated the modern Karaz Ankor is.

The Runesmith guild is both a guild and a cult and is almost certainly rather smaller than any other guild in terms of pure numbers. I think it's more centralized than most.

Are we aiming to set her at ease? Establishing a rapport? Setting her on the straight and narrow?

I think setting her at ease/establishing a rapport is stuff to go for.

I'm seeing the best approaches either:

- a very blunt I want you to succeed because you're my girlfriend's apprentice

Or

- a talk about the hat - not everything obviously - but a Grey Journeywoman developing a good relationship with a witch hunter EC despite stereotypes is relevant. Maybe if Mathilde wouldn't talk about the hat she could talk about winning over the Dawi

And ultimately I think that's what Sofia needs is knowing that she'll be treated fairly and that she can eventually gain some measure of control over her life. She already knows that Mathilde is a really scary Grey LM and obviously not approachable: however Mathilde can be the scary Grey LM in her corner and/or an inspirational figure.

I don't have many ideas on a talk with Sophia but I wholeheartedly support the "throw the dog at her" plan. Perhaps we can also get Johan's ratwolves in it? For extra cute surprise power?

[ ] Welcome Sofia in Karak Eight Peaks. Show her the wonders of this legendary Dwarf hold. Take her to a meal in the best halfling restaurant you know of. Give her access to the library and introduce her to The We. Show her the view from your tower. Introduce her to the other wizards, and leave out the unfortunate circumstances of her past. Make it clear that this is, in your mind, not of the last chance for a troublesome apprentice but instead the beginning of her time as a wizard of Eight Peaks.

Idk, something like this? We don't need to make any threats, if she touches the bad magic Mathilde will kill her. She is ~20 years old and a known magic addict, she knows this and we would insult her intelligence if we try to deny it (which is why I'm against taking off our hat). But I want to give her the best chance she has got for that to never happen. The Jade college most likely tried to discipline her for the last few years, and all that pressure, while she went from "probably kidnapped and future dark Wizard" to "suspicious apprentice" to "known magic addict", never amounted to any change for the better.

She went from one shitty situation into the next and never really caught a break. This can be her chance to take a deep breath, recenter herself and finally leave all that bullshit behind her. And she wouldn't be the first wizard that found out what kind of person they are while in Eight Peaks, away from their prior troubles. Mathilde was aimless before she joined the expedition (not to mention her beef with Roswita and Sigmar). Hubert hated being a (celestial) wizard. Panoramia used the distance from her family to figure out where she stands and built something great together with the halflings. I want to give Sofia the chance to do the same. This in my mind strikes a good balance of telling her what we expect of her as Senior Wizard of Eight Peaks, without threatening or infantilising her. I trust that Panoramia, as her master, manages to deal with everything else.

I'm pretty sure that this was first discussed in relation to both the Enginners and then the other guilds who came from Karaz-a-Karak to help K8Ps, and Boney said there were no overarching guilds and that a master in one guild had no authority over a dwarf in the same profession in another hold's guild.

Oh, yeah those might be a problem. Mainly Ulthuan (I don't think they know we can even trade with the Druchii).
Given how distant they are, they really don't know we can't either. Hell, we might be Druchii plants. Who the hell knows if those spiky raiders don't also have Human vassals in the barbaric northwest or whatever.
I would hope that Wilhelmina mostly kept Eike's origins to herself.
Would her father, who is (as far as we know) a good for nothing that's being skipped over for a vast inheritance, keep Eike's origins to himself though? Or her supposedly just as useless uncle?

In the context of "why does the Weavers guild care if K8P weavers would be making bank on silk, they're all part of the same guild", Boney said the guild as a whole only exists in theory.

But that does mean it exists in theory.

The Guild as a whole exists only in theory. Every individual leading it comes from a Hold-specific branch of the Guild and all of those Holds lack a resident giant spider population.

Odd, I'm looking for the quote, but I'm sure he said they didn't exist at all when we talked about the radicalism of the K8P's engineers or whether the visiting masters from K-a-K could exert any influence or authority over the locals.
