I strongly encourage you not to use swords. Why? Because our style is better when it's a secret, and showing it off to a bunch of perfectionist elves (while there are Druchii in town) is a sure way to spread "we should think of ways to counter this" among the immortal sword-maniac community.

EDIT: Or they might start trying to copy it, which would be even worse!
It's too late to keep it a true secret, since Mathilde developed it through practice with the Undumgi.

Speaking of elementalists you know who can probably use those books to great effect? The magicians we already know who do not touch the Winds, the Hedgewise and the Hags. Since they are not college secrets there is nothing stopping us from sharing them with both of them.

I wonder if the Eonir would be interested in trading our Elementalist books for theirs.

All right, so:

Diplomacy: 7+1+1+1-2=8
Seen, Not Heard: Eike learned at a very young age not to draw attention to herself, an instinct that serves her very well in some ways but holds her back in others. +3 Intrigue, +1 Piety, -2 Diplomacy

Diplomacy:
Colleges of Magic (1/3)
Empire of Man: Under the tutelage of her grandmother, she has achieved a solid understanding of the provinces of the Empire. +1 Diplomacy
Diplomacy: Eonir of Laurelorn: A period of immersion in Tor Lithanel during her teenage years gave her a solid understanding of the Eonir. +1 Diplomacy
Diplomacy: Politicking 1/3
???
-2 from the trait, 2 +1s from the visible skills, while her stat has 3 +1s.

So the final trait (Stirland?) is definitely completed and gives +1 diplomacy.

I guess it would be prudent to ask them not to spread it around, but Mathilde should be able to find some elves willing to agree to that.

But them trying to figure out counters is actually useful: Because then Mathilde can figure out ways to counter that, rather then when she's fighting a badass who can do it on the spot. Security through obscurity works only until it suddenly and catastrophically does not. Refining it with the help of mostly allies is preferable.

Plus, it'll give us a better idea where Mathilde stands.

The Hags might even have books to trade us, unlike the Hedgewise they are not as persecuted group, just one that lives scattered on the land, but as our friend the Sea Hag shows us 'the land' includes major cities.

So the thread seems pretty set on capturing an armored eight-limbed Rider in Red for a 'Sudden Knight' spell, but has anybody gave thought on using the naked four-limbed ones for a spell instead? Well I have, the spell I thought of summons Greenskins to fight for you. Use Mathilde's inner Waaaghilde with her deep instinct towards everything Greenskin and combined with apparitions to create the Greenskin summoning spell you never knew you wanted!

@Boney

Is this a viable spell?

I mean if we cast it in the middle of a chaos dwarf city... or a skaven nest... or Druchi territory....

It's not really dark magic, so technically no article violation.

Burning Vengeance exists and is a part of the bright curriculum, so use one enemy to kill another is an approved Wizard strategy.

Yep. I see no reason not to develop the "Summon Orcs and Goblins" spell.

One thing that we should consider having Eike work on a little soon is her general intrigue skill, and I hope that might be an excuse to ask Regimand to come help teach if he's in the area. He schooled Mathilde when they had that wee competition last time they hung out, after all.

And it'd be a really cute scene.

Also, Eike has been shown in the past wresting with Shyalla's tenets and Mathilde wasn't really in a place to be able to provide useful perspective on that, and still isn't.
I'd like to avoid accidently pushing aside Eike's religious aspects by just not putting any attention to them while she is our apprentice - and that risk is the flipside of her 'Mathilde is a great teacher' trait.

Maybe we look to asking the grey college to spare the time of anyone who is also a Shyallan to talk to her, or some Shyllans in martial orders or ask Shyllans to suggest relevant treading materials and then ask Eike to explain them to Mathilde? Just spitballing.

How about for intrigue training, we take her to a gambling hall, and she has to leave with more money than she entered with? Anything goes. That feels suitably... Ranaldian.

Needs to add in a "without magic" clause. Grey Wizards making money by directly applying their magic to people is exactly what the Bursar is meant to stop, and we don't want to form bad habits until we've formed good ones.

Speaking of Eike and dwarves, it might not hurt to have her study Khazalid at some point, get an early start on potentially getting Polyglot.

Doing it as a training mission where you give it back is fine. If asked, it can be another subtle test, and lesson why the vow exists.

On an entirely separate topic:

You seem to be comparing Mathilde against some ideal frictionless spherical Grey Wizard in a vacuum. They're comparing her against what they've got: Broke Time And Claims It Was Deliberate, Quintuple Agent, Those Fucking Chaos Dwarves Still Sail Submarines Up The Reik To Drop Off Hobgoblin Assassins On Our Doorstep, Way Too Into Sigmar, Literally Stole Ghal Maraz, Left Naggaroth Worse Than He Found It, and their leader, When He Faked His Death A Rumour Spread That His Tower Was Filled With Dark Magic Books And Literally Every Enemy We've Got Apparently Finds It Super Plausible.
So what do we think is Mathilde's problem child title among the Grey Lord Magisters?

Remember, it has to be things that we are actually known for, so no mentioning the Liber Mortis.
