I dont mine the swordplay action, but it feels a bit self-indulgent

plus I think its not going to go quite as people think.

I think we are going to get a few early wins against the mid-tier elves, and then the real muscle elfs are going to jojo pose and then smack us down.

which, you know, would be interesting in its own way.

Sure, but I think that level of knowledge of our relative abilities would be incredibly valuable. Usually, we only get that knowledge by risking our life.

Something that would make it even richer is if the Grey Battle Wizard is in one of the Wizard Book Clubs who follow Mathilde's papers.

Since it seems not unlikely that the first wizard to pick up her spell would be a fan of her papers.

The arguments for it are cogent. It has been taking a while. Whether that's enemy action, or just the inevitable overruns that come from a major infrastructure project also being a prototype, we'll see.

[X] Nordland
Nordland was always going to be our (early) opposition in the Waystone Project, and so checking in on schemes involving them is probably important. Especially since we've seen Chaos (via Tzeentch) fomenting divine schism before, between Gork and Mork.
[X] Middenland
I prefer Nordland, but I'll support this too, for related reasons.

It's not as necessary as we were thinking it might be, but I'm still up for clearing either one of these and it would provide a little leeway, so I'm supporting both.

It's new, it's shiny, and I've been really curious about Boney's take on the Elementalists for a while. So I'm jumping at the chance.

It is, but what that actually means is a bit ambiguous, as there's a lot of reasons someone might be a member of a court - they might be a servant of the ruler, or a friend, or an ally, or an emissary, or foreign royalty in exile. It might mean that Kalita has the pantheon's stamp of approval to operate in Kislev, or that Kalita has a close relationship with Dazh, or that Kalita has been sort of adopted by Dazh, or a number of other interpretations. Salyak is sometimes describes in the same way.

Dazh gets on well with the other Gods. Ursun and his children sleep when Dazh is away and awaken to celebrate his return. Tor's axe is sharpened with the help of Dazh's fire. Dazh is so congenial that some who follow Ursun and Tor consider him to be weak. Of course, they don't say such things when the night is coming down, and the flint doesn't want to spark.

I can imagine many people asking "Why is Mathilde writing about this?" when they first see the Compendium. Meanwhile, those very familiar with the expedition to Karag Dum by experience or recounting might read those papers and have an inkling.

And then, six months later you hear the cries of "Oh!"/"Oh yes!"

I'd been quietly hoping it would turn out that way but, now that the chicken has hatched, I am very pleased with the progression of events there.

Also, amused by the segment of Mathilde poking the coin to see if any help comes but no; The codification is just long, dedicated work, and instead Ranald simply arranges for the spell to have a perfect first showing.

And if that also involved coincidental help with the Probably-Battle-Mage that first learnt and cast it it's... Kinda fitting, honestly: Mathilde takes a gamble, but it turns out that instead of giving her a spot of luck she didn't actually need, Ranald deceives her by quietly prowling off in the night and protecting someone else.

Look into the investigation of the mining of the Skull River, and any consequences of it.

Pay another visit to the canal project, and see if there's any further signs of sabotage.
