I know it's End Times lore and people have an aversion and rightful hatred of it, and it's non canonical and everything. But Ulric did sacrifice himself to save Sigmar in the End Times. It's what gave Sigmar another surge of strength to get up for another round with Archaon. Ulric cares about the Empire quite a lot.

I am now imagining what it would be like if we took the chance to ask for a guide into the Griffon Wood

Mathilde: Keep the credit, I... er wasn't here.
Longshanks: You are most gracious Lady Magister
Mathilde: Yes, yes most gracious, do you have anyone who knows the Griffon Wood?
Longshanks: I know those lands and would be honored to aid you but the way is long and...
Mathilde: About that... I'm already behind schedule, the gyro will pick you up in two hours.
Longshanks: *to himself*: Truly long and complex are the plots of those who wear the Grey.
Mathilde: *furiously makes stuff up as she goes along* *looks smug* :V

Personally I'm voting Longshanks because I feel it'll be most embarrassing for Alric. It's one thing to fail because a LM or the head of your order were actively interfering against you, but quite another (at least in this context, where he's banking so much on this) if the local witchhunters just did their job better than you did yours.

Is there any particular reason to pump the Longshanks? They did good work but Mathilde is the one who started and ended the whole thing.

[] Yourself
It keeps our name out of things, it's potentially the most embarrassing option for Alric (see a few posts up for my reasoning), and the Longshanks seemed like a decent group when we approached them.

Two reasons come to mind as I have said before:
  1. We are going to the Griffon Wood next and we could use some more help there from people who know what a tree is far more than we need another fistful of CF
  2. The Cult of Taal is ancient and in tune with the land, this could be a foundation for getting them on board with the project

I'm actually surprisingly fond of the Templar option, given that Starke may or may not have found cause to reevaluate his confidence in Mathilde's dedication to Sigmarige institutions recently.

I'm not sure it'd actually do much even if he wasn't a paranoid Grey Wizard triple guessing our intentions, but I appreciate the potential callback.

Also, we will be investigating the Forest of Shadows. We know fuck all about forests and hunting in them, having the witch-hunters of the god of forests would be useful.

Furthermore, we don't particularly need to be in the spotlight. We're already famous enough, and I don't want Alric to have any more reasons to hate us.

Finally, having friendly contacts within a major cult of the Empire is always a good thing. And I'd prefer not to give the credit to Sigmar's servants.

The part that I don't get is why would we want to keep our name out of things?

Killing a Chaos Champion is totally praiseworthy in the Empire; we've got no reason to hide.

For anti-Alric politicking the best option is explicitly crediting Mira; besides Mathilde hasn't had any negative personal interaction that'd make her want to twist the knife.
