[X] [Report] Stick to the facts of our accomplishments, praise Wilhelmina, mention the Stirlandian League.
-[x] Do not mention any of your letters.
[X] Plan Aligned loyalties
Plan is basically propose to the Count to check out his advisers or nobles. Then we can investigate our diplomancer for our both jobs. Also we can't be silent on most pressing concerns, so both of them are here.
-[X] There's a possibility some of your advisors are not 100% loyal, let's check them out.
-[X] While the nobles are in good mood we can gather some intel on them. Let's do it.
-[X] I need a proper information network. Please fund me wandering around making friends.
-[X] A dozen centuries of tax ledgers and records don't just vanish. They need to be found.
-[X] The disappearance of your predecessor is very concerning, he must be found.

Or the ya know Witch Hunter who tend to be good at investigation or his buddies find out we been deceiving him.
That is gonna be just a little bit worse than ass-biting.
It probably won't be a Bad End, I figure he will want to turn us, but not a good situation.
This is why I argued for honesty from the start.
Thing is if he could find our true reason for being here than he has to know someone higher up has assigned us to him and that also means he could find out all of his other advisors are also working with someone else

Also if we do our job well he really won't want to lose us since we are a valuable spymaster something that is hard to come by

There is no point in pissing off the organizations that put those advisors there in the first place since that will only cause us a headache and we maybe even be called a rogue wizard if we do so which isn't good

I think you underestimate the investigative abilities of a Witch Hunter and his friends. When not if.
I think you underestimate how important personal loyalties are in renaissance societies in general and warhammer in particular. He will replace us with someone actually loyal ASAP.
And again in these societies it is not monolithic bureaucratic organizations, it is single powerful individuals and their hangers-on. Such as you know an elector count.

I think you underestimate the abilities of Grey wizards to hide secrets

And even if he does find us out he is going to know that the only people that can move a grey wizard to serve under an Elector Count as their spymaster is the leader of the Grey Order or the Emporer himself both men he doesn't want to piss off

And again those single powerful people are usually leading the organizations or groups that can make our lives more difficult and instead of outing them we can work with them or leave them to their business as long as they leave us to ours

So far we know the people so far who are spying on him are the Grand Theologist, and the Emporer's spymaster the rest we know is working with some of the other powers in the Empire but we don't know exactly who yet

And those persons will ignore our existence when witch-chan fires us. And ignore it when asked about hiring us as an adviser witch-chan says to others 'Unreliable'.
You are thinking short-term, 'my word is my bond' is critical for a spymaster, and we will have taken an oath when sworn in by the new count.

You are going to make a lot of enemies in the long run if you blow everyone else's operations one Elector count is nothing compared to the Grand Theologist, other elector counts, and the mother fucking Emporer's spymaster

Also there is probably a reason everyone is keeping a close eye on this guy so I would wait until you know him better before swearing our complete loyalty to him and even then our order should come first and we should make sure to keep close tabs on him because the people who put us here can just as easily take us out

We are his spymaster. It is out duty to discover these things. Failure means we are incompetent or corrupt.
Neither will give us a long nor shining career.
Short-term thinking.

We are a spy to the Grey Order or the Emporer first
We are his spymaster second

And the loyalties of his other advisors are on a need to know basis and he doesn't need to know as long as he is a good guy and pays his taxes none of his advisors will try to screw him over but if he is a bad guy then his advisors are in a position to make sure he can be taken care of quickly

You shouldn't assume that we're employed by the emperor. It could be anyone, threatening or blackmailing our master, his own private projects moving forward, and so on.

On the other hand, since we're put here by the (probably) Emperor, that personal loyalty thing cuts both ways. I think?

We should probably figure out just what our obligations and promises are to whom, exactly. And just how obvious it is that the Emperor put us here, seeing as whoever it is can have us declared rogue (which carries the death penalty) over the heads of the Grey Order.

Edit: responding to other post that semi-ninjaed me, too
It's a list that includes everyone who has the means and motive to coerce a wizard. That's not a small list in Warhammer.
It's not just the ability to coerce a wizard, I think. Remember our opening letter. "instructions unknown to and unsanctioned by the Grey Order. Should you fail to follow them, you will be declared rogue."

Not many people can do that, can they?

We know they are someone who has the power to declare us a rouge to the Grey Order, not an easy feat trick a bunch of grey order wizards so it is most likely someone with the authority to actually do so

Or our master lied to keep us from running our mouth or looking too closely.

But if that was the case why would the Grey Order be supplying us intel if we weren't working with them?
If our appointment to the position is legitimate, and it would have to be to maintain it for any length of time before they'd drag us off, they'd still provide information. We are legitimately serving an Elector Count, but that doesn't stop us from working for someone else without the Order knowing.

[X] [Report] Stick with the facts, but highlight that Wilhelmina's work in getting back the former workers and funneling them to you was a big help in your task.
[X] The disappearance of your predecessor is very concerning, he must be found.
[X] There is a risk of enemy agents infiltrating the castle staff - they must be watched.
[X] There was an incident with a... something. You killed it, but there may be more. The castle should be searched from top to bottom.
[X] A dozen centuries of tax ledgers and records don't just vanish. They need to be found.

We could perhaps send a letter along the lines of:
To my former apprentice,
Letters will be sent to you; you will know them by their cipher. They will contain instructions; instructions unknown to and unsanctioned by the Grey Order. Should you fail to follow them, you will be declared rogue.
For what it's worth, I'm sorry.
Magister Regimand
"To my former master,
Hypothetically speaking, if I were to follow these instructions,
and if I also were to notify the Grey Order that someone is giving out unsanctioned instructions to their members and playing hob with their authority,
what would likely happen to me and at whose hand?
How is this not a violation of the Articles of Imperial Magic?"

Or perhaps we shouldn't, if you think this will call down more trouble.

having read that, is sounds like our former master is being blackmailed somehow.
and we are the poor smuck send out too help get what the blackmailers want.
and he is not happy about it but willing to inform you of the problem.
likely hoping that we can somehow help him with his probem

Eh I don't see it and if he was being blackmailed wouldn't he just try to put a secret message asking for help with his message he is a grey wizard that is kind of their specialty unless the person blackmailing him was another grey wizard or very powerful magic user

not if say someone like the emperor spymaster is the one talking in his ear or something along those lines
it not going too be random group nr 5 doing this, its someone with some major pull

Or say, someone high enough up that our assistance wouldn't matter all that much.
