Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

I think I'd vote against the Color Alchemist at this point. I'd imagine that matching color does have some effect on how well something evokes a concept, where taking something representing "the night sky" and painting it red or green would weaken its effect. Otherwise the effect would mostly be making more dyes available for other artisans so that their wares are more aesthetically appealing. That's valuable from a trade perspective, but I don't think it's necessarily a priority.

Carpentry and pots are both base-level always-useful crafts, though. All for investment into those, especially since their descriptors are "Spirit Carpenter" and "Practical Potter." Those are very appropriate modifiers for Ling Qi's whole thing.

I will throw in a plan -
A - i do like the dyes guy, but I do think that he would have a limited use in current state, so throw him minor stipend to have a theoretical option of exploring that later.
B - i do like the potter, but she will already be at least tangentially involved through Xia Lin. She feels very useful, but I do want toa bit more frugal with our money.
C - carpenter is great and cool.

[] Plan: Limit Snacks and Poaching
-[] Chen Huan, the Spirit Carpenter
--[] 2 green stones per month
-[] Leng Shui, the Color Alchemist
--[] 1 green stone per month
-[] Lai Wen, the Practical Potter
--[] 1 green stone per month

Potter is basically a must. Pottery makes long term food storage much improved, plus we have that cold aspected clay right?

And in a place where rotting wood is a concern, and where a lot of wood is, and a lot of building is, a carpenter is also a very nice pickup. Especially one that can help us establish the styles for our spirit court.

Dye guy... Feel frivolous, but for all I know we're secretly sitting on some amazing dye reagent. And he would pair well with the potter for less practical pottery.

Color Alchemist... Well, it's certainly a neat gimmick, surely.
I think there's also some use for our boats, aside from paints for the shrines and shrine ship.
"That is a fine way to put it! I am in the business of tinctures, dyes and paints. I also work somewhat with resins and sealants. My works are not merely beautiful either, but can be mixed to imbue effects on even otherwise unenhanced materials… though I am still working on the lifespan of those effects."
And that "imbue effects on even otherwise unenhanced materials" sounds interesting. Oh, and he would at least be a start on the alchemy that the Clearwater Mist would require.

-[X] 2 green stones per month
[X] Leng Shui, the Color Alchemist

I agree with this. I think that color alchemist guy could grow to be so much more if he had the opportunity, I don't want to discard him completely. Who knows what he could do with the reagents from our fief?? He may not be there right now talent wise but he'd make a good investment.
Lets definitely take Spirit Carpenter girl.
As for the potter, I can take or leave her. People make a good point about her being able to make use of the Chillgrasp clay though.

Just having him for Qiyi and Biyu is enough of a upside on their own. A happy and colorful house is a good house.

[x] Plan: Practical and Generous

-[x] 2 green stones per month

[x] Lai Wen, the Practical Potter

Picking up Chen Huan seems like a must, and Lai Wen looks like she could use some sponsorship not to mention it would be nice to have someone do some testing of the clay deposits. It doesn't feel right to hire dye guy just to make snacks for Qiyi and paint for Biyu especially since we could just buy those things retail.

This is an interesting avenue to take for potential consumables going forward. I'd be willing to extend 1 GS if I wasn't sure his teacher likely fully intended to push harder to keep him at home. He sounds like a low key hidden talent in his respective craft

Edit: there's no reason to offer the potter girl 2 GS though

She's too used to working with scraps to be ready for anything better right now, and as a second realm craftsman who isn't used to handling relatively high end commissions she's not going to have any idea what to do with that kind of windfall in the first place

2 GS for the carpenter? Excellent. But 1 GS for potter girl for now and maybe a raise once they come into their own and breakthrough? That should also give us one for the alchemist, keeping the offer affordable

City, mist, Meng, lacquer, colors and resins for expansion under waterfall and mist building/choice when settling border town. All currently being imported. Local source better for city growth/eco beyond personal use.

Resins and sealants are very good for boats and storage, though admittedly a potter who can work with the Chillgrasp Clay is likely to be better for the latter.

That said, having lots of colors available is likely to be a big boost for artistry in our settlement, and I think we should be doing that, so I'll be making some bid for the alchemist regardless.

Dream-aspected Mist sounds like an absolutely wild base material for a dye or paint other type of alchemical product. That's precisely the type that were going to be marketing it to in the first place after all.

Especially since it sounds like the guy low key has a secondary speciality in materials research. Pretty important given all the novel-ish mats that are going to pass through Snowblossom

I realize it's probably too mechanically and narratively complicated, but I'd be tempted to do something like "1 gs for the first X months and then 2 if mutually agreed to continue the relationship"

I think both the potter and carpenter are basically a must. We have a lot of work for both, and hardly a better opportunity for recruitment.
The dye alchemist feels more frivolous, this said, he probably would combine great with both the carver and the potter, and little sister as well as the dress are interested in dyes as well.
And @TehChron has a point as well. I would have gone with 2/2/1 green stones before, but now I am not opposed to be offering the dye alchemist 2 stones as well.

Also once the color alchemist guy said he works with resins too, I got really excited. There is such cool resin art out there, in different forms and applications. Furniture, jewelry, sculpture, etc. Imagine what cultivator versions would look like!

Alchemy pairs well with Zhengui. Maybe not now but in the future when he carries gardens upon his back. Perhaps a different alchemist would be better but this one will work well enough now.

We're looking at 72 gss per year at worst, so maximum investment here is less than the maximum investment in the Gold Autumn School, which we didn't take. So I think we can afford all three of them.

That said, while we've got a very practical use for the potter Lai Wen, Xia Lin is also interested in her, and I'm not really interested in a bidding war - I think a low bid and only getting some of her time, say, would be perfectly reasonable.

The carpenter Chen Huan is specifically about building shrines that are in harmony with their environment. Leng Shui does stuff that I'd really like to base our settlement around, and has a lot of potential we could be buying cheap. For both of them I favor the full 2/month price.

It would t be right if all our little spirit brothers and sisters didn't have greedy little black holes for stomachs.

Splash some cash on all of them. The shy ones we will lure out to Snowblossom and give them Ling Qi Adventures.

Appropriate for their level of course

What is the difference between spending 1 or 2 GS? I don't see why we would give 2 other than being spendtrift.

All these characters are great, and all of their fields are a great fit for our present and future needs.

The Spirit Carpenter, as others have said, is a must. Shenglu is going to be a heavily spiritual settlement, with plenty of Shrines around (and we are even going to add more!). So investing into an in-house carpenter specialized on that field is a great idea.
I also really like that she is in the verge of a breakthrough and is actively searching for funds to try again. That is a point on her favour.
2GSS for her without a doubt.

The Color Alchemist seems more frivolous at a glance. And it's true that his standalone worth is lowest of the three. His contribution only really shines in conjuction with the other two.
He is also the one with the most uncertain return. We have no idea if he will be able to improve those enhancing dyes he is working on. It could end up as a mediocre, impractical invention.
And then we have to take notice that he seems to be the one that is lest starved for resources. With no apparent intent to breakthrough to the third realm for now and with a master letting him work with the "scraps" of good quality materials.
So I would assign 1GSS to him and revisit it later on.

The Practical Potter is just what I had in mind when I voted for the Artisan District. Since we are harvesting that Cold Clay sooner or later (I would prefer sooner), a potter with knowledge in preservative properties is a perfect fit.
The only doubt I have is if the poorest of the trio would be able to make good use of 2GSS even if we gave them to her. I don't want her master siphoning away our investment or something like that.
So I'm not sure if it's better to start off strong with 2GSS or increasing it as she proves herself.

So I would go for a distribution of 2-1-1 or 2-1-2. These plans seem to fit
