Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

And yes, just a little cultivation, the right way to tweak and strain the flows of qi in her eyes to see the faint shadows of intent embedded in the writing
Ooo! This is the bit that relates to the Inquisitive Eyes upgrade. I like the part about discerning intent from something they touched. It reminds me of the thing Jiao did when he took an impression of the shaman from the weapon that killed him.

When you spent so much time analyzing a persons thoughts as read through their letters, it was hard for the picture assembled to not become a person. Someone remembered, at least in passing.
I relate to this so hard. Names are meh with me, faces are marginally better, but what I am most likely to remember about you is your story.

There was an undercurrent of being hard put upon, a resentment for the more northerly regions. They saw themselves as injured by the endless raiding, and blame for that spread north.

It was something to be careful of, an ugly infection that needed tending, lest it turn into outright rot.

Besides gaining an active ally, this is the part that makes me want to start our work with the Wang over the Diao. If we can blunt the edge of this resentment, I think it will be easier for us to trust that the Foundations/Wang will sincerely reach out to the other groups on our behalf without being antagonistic about it. They will not only become more tightly bound to us, but they will be a more *effective* internal ES ally.

This is strengthening our current foundation, seeing as the region is already at 3 and the Wang clan at 1, picking this choice will give us a reliable allied region possibly at 4 relationship and a supply of architects for our fief.

This is broadening our foundation. The region is only at 2 and the Diao at -1, so picking this will give us a wider array but not that staunch support, and if anyone can remind me what it is that the Diao are good at, i kinda forgot.

Both choice have its own pros, but i'm more inclined for the Diao because we do not really have a way inside the clan like we have Wang Chao for the Wang. I'm checking the relationship tabs and i see no Diao there. And recent event was concerning the Central Valley, which i doubt will have something involving us that can bolster our rep there(correct me if i'm wrong), while the Wang is a neighbor and will always have something to do with us because of the fief.

We have that MoL Diao. Diao Hualing iirc? The one who helped with Long Arm and the fox kiddies. But yeah she's not on the relationship list.

Ultimately we want to build support in the neighboring region and the Wang's purpose is to build a renew Emerald Seas out of old culture, which fits with out own and Meng Diu's politics.

My problem is that we don't have as much interest in the Wang themselves. The Meng are just damn cool as the representatives of old Weilu culture, and the Diao have their kitsune heritage that could give us more Su Ling. The Wang don't have any personal storylines, so while they're the political option they're not the interesting option but I hope that by voting for them anyway we might see some questlines coming from our neighbors. Because we need our fief to feel less like an island and for the Wang to dangle some plot threads for us to pick up later.

Which is what i meant. Those event would probably push our relationship to 1, but right now we don't have any friends within the Diao that we can continously support like Wang Chao. I'm just wondering if the event with the Diao will give us someone like that. Maybe it will be Hualing herself, and that would also help us on Long Arm and the fox children because she is more inclined to help than not, minor as it is.

Fundamentally, the problem for me with the Diao option is that it continues the trend of chasing and aiming to keep clans in a neutral standing and trying to keep problems away rather then building allies and friends. Closest we got atm are the Meng reformist and their counterparts. But everyone else we are seemingly trying to keep at arms length. Sure we dont get negative attention keeping everyone away and in a neutral standing, but we dont get positive either.
But this isn't being friendly with people. This is explicitly using our spy network to endear ourselves with people. Narratively (to me at least) it makes sense to use that against the people that are less inclined to like us while to try to use our actions and intentions to make us closer to those that already enjoy our company.

Wang Chao is sect-locked though. We're leaving him behind, for now at least. I'm not sure if he's coming to the summit. If anything we'll be continuing things with his sister instead.

But, that's fair about our relationship. We do need a Diao contact. It's just that, with recent events and our accomplishments, I thought our relationship rank with her would be opened at 1+ when we meet her again for long Arm III, regardless of any actions taken.
