Ma Jun was having difficulty hurting fan Yu, but he… he was weathering her.

This reads as the opposite of what you seem to mean.

From Merriam Webster: "weather" means "to bear up against and come safely through"

"I rather doubt that the Han will choose to march like fools into the empty desert, to declare themselves king's of the grave," - Meizhen, talking about the fact that it's unlikely the Han are as stupid as the Sun lmfao

and the Sun are going to show up proving her point that declaring yourself "king" of a place more powerful than you is extremely foolish. The Queen, The Sunflower Demon is who rules Red Garden. No King commands there

Que Liling with branches and others plant bits sticking out of her tattered clothes being pushed into the spotlight by Sun Shao, with gestures to get started already, only armed with a paper sword, while the Sunflower Goddess is lazying around on a pavilon made up by her strongest monsters with weaker ones doing scrub work like weaving leafs at her, holding her drinks and so on, on the other end of the stage, and a group of 10 other slowly walking towards Liling, making violent gestures with their wooden swords.

Interesting that he hangs out with urchins and labours, since Qi asked how he knew and went immediately silent.

Also seems like Fan Yu didn't let 1 year teach him any lessons and was mainly driven by fear and frusation.

"...How would you know what songs street urchins and labourers sing?"

Xia Anxi's golden eyes widened marginally before his expression smoothed over.
This is something Xia Anxi regards as a weakness, something he should have hidden from Ling Qi's notice. That he knows the habits of street urchins and laborers suggests he was also a street urchin or laborer, or his background arises from them. Possibly, Xia Anxi's parents were Grey Bai mortals, and the marks of the Violet Coral he bears the result of cultivation rather than birth? Maybe is also ran away from home, like Ling Qi. And therefore, he was sent to Meizhen as a potential link to Ling Qi under the assumption they will find commonality not only in their skill in music, but also their low-birth.

(That might be another one of Bai Suzhen's projects, akin to her grooming if Lao Keung as a high-flying officer from the low status Red Pythons? Her Prosperity Sovereignty might demand that Bai scions from even the disregarded Grey mortals be supported and experience the benefits of prosperity.)

"Odd, I do not recall seeing any Fan on the guest list," Bai Meizhen mused.

"There is one, an older brother I believe," Cai Renxiang said,
[snip]
"Some tribulation of the heart. No certainty in his movements, cultivation unstable," Lao Keung grunted.
It seems Fan Yu earned regard from his family before the tournament, that they sent an older brother to observe him, despite that last we heard, they were sending anyone. Possibly his partial breakthrough to the Third Realm earned that?

However, that a Third Realm like Lao Keung, however high stage, could tell Fan Yu was ruled by fear (against a commoner! When Fan Yu is a mainline scion of a count clan!) means his brother could tell, too. That's a terrible performance, humiliating to him and his clan. I think the best Fan Yu could hope for is a recall to his family's lands, where he can be told his place in the clan instead of remaining in the sect and wallowing in his inferiority without use. (Though, since Cai Shenhua should be pulling back on her interference in the Sect's business next year, perhaps the Elders may interfere to correct Fan Yu's budding Way?)

I have a feeling that with Ling Qi being around Ma Fa is going to get even more frustrated, zero alone time with Gun Jun. Anytime they try Ling Qi will pop up to ensure proprietary.

Fan Yu! Negaverse quest has THE worst dice.

On top of that the questers probably expected adventure, mapping his cultivation and minmaxing his arts. Instead they have to manage a teens anxiety, self image problems and his attempts to stay afloat as life shits on him again and again and again. LOL at once again not having enough spoons to improve cultivation and advance ranks.

like, his family didnt even show up for him. a single older brother came to watch him embarass himself against a second generation cultivator girl. more likely there to show face and the deals than to actually support him but still placed in a position to rebuke him for his display.

i wonder what his status in his family and the golden fields group is after xiulan left. worst of all, at times and when pushed fan yu seems to be a really nice guy with a good heart who cares for his friends.

There are many places in the Argent Sect. Windswept peaks dusted with snow, deep valleys where skittering things preyed upon each other, vast woodlands where spirits and beasts watched from hidden places, but to Han Jian there was only one place of interest today. This rock.

It jutted out from a cliff side path with a black glossy finish, and it was half again his size. Below the outcropping was a small lake, or perhaps a large pond, that glittered in the sunlight. And what sunlight this place got! The valley that held the lake arched east to west giving the rock full access to the sun the moment it breached the valley wall. For almost the entire day the rock had full access to sunlight. It was perfect.

Han Jian had promised to work harder, to stop lazing about, and he had kept that promise. Already he approached the yellow and silver stage, his allies were progressing nicely, at least most of them, and he was making inroads with the other provinces. He had worked hard, so he deserved a little break. Just one day sunbathing.

Yet when he arrived at the rock to enjoy his day Han Jian found that someone was already there. Small with white hair and a white dress. He swallowed. Bai Meizhen. Golden eyes turned with languid certainty towards him. Han Jian knew that the Bai had sent scions to the sects of the empire, but knowing that he could meet a Bai was different from the fear creeping up his spine. Memories of Fan Yu's pained face flashed through Han Jian's mind.

"Greetings." Bai Meizhen said, her voice aloof and distant.

"Greetings." Han Jian said he tried to keep any tremors from his voice but wasn't sure he had succeeded.

"You are Han Jian, are you not?" Bai Meizhen said.

"I am."

Bai Meizhen hummed, apparently lost in thought. "You tutored Ling Qi, correct?"

"I did share some pointers with her, yes." Han Jian said. Where was this going?

"Very well. I assume you are here because of this location? There is little other reason to visit this valley."

"That rock is well placed." Han Jian allowed.

"I propose a deal. I could take this rock, as is my right, but I am willing to only use this rock during odd days of the month, since you have helped Ling Qi."

That was a better deal than he was likely to ever get. "That sounds agreeable."

"Very well. Since today is the sixth, I will leave it to you." With that Bai Meizhen stood and walked past him, and with her gone the fear that had been boiling in his stomach faded.

Well, today had started on a pretty low note, but as Han Jian laid on the warm rock, it could only go up from here. He would just have to make the most of today. With those warm thoughts he drifted off into the half daze. Ling Qi may never know it, but their friendship had already been repaid, this was really the best rock at the sect.

Super short omake today @yrsillar
This comes from a conversation on discord about how Han Jian is a cat, Bai Meizhen is a snake, and so they would likely enjoy the same warm rock. Enjoy!

Xia Anxi is growing on me. His brand of pompous self-assurance feels more like a male, water and music themed Xiulan than a reptilian Hui McCorpseface.

RIP Fan Yu, tho. His Negaverse can take comfort in the fact that no one can actually prove that Huang Da isn't still stuck in Yellow.

Ling Qi will relentlessly cockblock Ma Fa because she wants to "protect" her
I would feel sorry for Ma Fa if this wasn't the funniest thing in the world

Hasn't Ling Qi been pretty chill with her friends romantic relationships? I don't remember anything particularly 'cockblock'-y with regards to Meizhen's relationship with Bao Qingling or Xiulan's ill-fated stuff. TBH not sure how much screen time Ma Fa will even get, considering the basically 0 up to now and Ling Qi only getting busier.

One of Ling Qi's big things is propriety. We see that she gets pretty uncomfortable with public displays of affection and is always chaperoned on her outings with Bao Qingling. If she can, she will totally inforce propriety, even on those who may not want it at the moment.
