Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I think Ling Qi being able to say to Zhengui that she trusted him to protect her when she pops out of this cocoon with full sincerity and honesty is going to wonders for his confidence.

Of particular note, is that we've advanced to a rank that is predominately filled with individuals in Green 4, at least that is what I recall from our discussion with Meizhen a couple of months ago.

And we got pretty close to the next stage of rewards and benefits, which I presume is also filled with even more powerful individuals. So, I'm pretty happy with how far we've advanced in the sect ranking.

Other than that, the 100 sect points is a really, really nice prize. The more sect points the better!

Also, that nightmare spirit is a jerk.

I wonder how hard Xuan Shi, Bian Ya, Ji Rong, Guan Zhi, Su Ling and Senior Bro Liao ranked up.

So that was really damn cool.

Xuan Shi is badass as fuck, being able to serve as a shield against a G7 to protect multiple allies (Su Ling likely would get oneshot without him, and maybe Hanyi).

+100 sect points will help a lot.

Also, being that Ling Qi is now rank 710, she now has access to intermediate lessons.

It's a strong effect. We can see here that people who base themselves around such effects are annoying little jerks and often don't expect such effects. It's so nice because it's not tied to an art so even when we are crippled like being in a dream cocoon we don't need to worry.
The other thing that's really nice about it is how it works in the setting. In D&D or similar, there are external powers that can make you immune to mind-whammies, but that's, well, an external effect. And it would be really easy to write this as "you're feeling tricked and then all of a sudden BAM magic powers activate and clear the fog." But instead it's clear that this is a result of her domain and her domain insights: power internal to her and the result of her cultivation. Not some talisman activating, but being herself hard enough that the universe has to sit up and take notice.
I wonder how hard Xuan Shi, Bian Ya, Ji Rong, Guan Zhi, Su Ling and Senior Bro Liao ranked up.
Su Ling doesn't even have a rank. She's Outer Sect. But I'd be unsurprised if they just yeeted her straight into Inner Sect right now, skip the wait, skip the tournament, welcome to Inner Sect, which arguably is a more badass rankup than anyone else's.

Isn't that also Meizhen/the white serpent Bai's tactic? Maybe it's a snake thing...
Sort of. It seems like the Bai focus on the fluidity of motion to avoid being struck and any attack that does hit them they counter with their own attack.

Xuan Shi here acts like a taunter. He forces enemies to attack even though they would rather hit softer targets. That he somehow can store that power of enemies attacks and use that as a powerup is really really interesting. It's costly and as we can see in the fight risky because if the enemy is strong enough to overpower Shi's defenses then it will deal damage. But it also allows him to hit way way above his weight class for that one attack. I doubt he can do that often but using it like he did to protect the team support and then deal massive damage is exactly what a tank should do and he is showing off just why he was picked for this mission.

Oh. I forgot that she wasn't Inner Sect. Which uh, speaks well to your idea lol :V

Well, if I can engage in some baseless speculation, here are my predictions.

2: Liao Zhu
530: Bao Qingling
578: Wen Cao
620: Ruan Shen
623: Luo Zhong
641: Bian Ya
705: Sun Liling
707: Bai Meizhen
708: Cai Renxiang
730: Ling Qi
740: Xuan Shi
745: Ji Rong

I predict that Ji Rong moves up to 730, replacing Ling Qi in that space. It doesn't really make much sense for him to get more than Ling Qi with the information we have currently, but he did good work on the way down, during the fight at the fortress, and during the retreat.

Xuan Shi, I expect, will move to 720-715. He did some really amazing work in protecting the beacon during the retreat and really stepped up in the fight against a higher stage opponent when stuck in a dangerous location. I expect him to move about the same as Ling Qi or even a bit more given his relative distance behind her in the rankings.

Bian Ya, I think will move to 631. She did really good work in coordinating, mapping, and navigating the dream, but, conversely, I expect that at those higher ranks gaining more is difficult.

Which brings us to Liao Zhu, who, while he did some great work the whole adventure, I don't think will rank up from the mission. Moving from Rank 2 to 1 is going to be a lot more juggling of what the two did and we just don't have enough information at the moment to really say if that rank up is deserved without knowing what else is happening.

She is a full green that just fought in a team fight against a green 7 and helped. Even if it was marginally that has to be some big points for her. I do hope that she gets yeeted to the inner sect and does not pass go. That way the outer sect is going to be full of rumors of what she did and the wonder duo of Su Ling and Li Suyin can work together again and confuse everyone with the ordering of their names.

Isn't that also Meizhen/the white serpent Bai's tactic? Maybe it's a snake thing...
Don't think Meizhen actually forces you to hit her. She just gets the opportunity to hit back when you make the attempt.

Xuan Shi is directly pulling in your big bad super attack into his strongest defense and then reflecting all the loads of damage he took to his heavily armored and inflated HP pool, which is a bit different than getting free attacks when you attack him.

Huh, I don't think I saw anyone peg that spirit as a nightmare. Hanyi had the right opinion of them though.

Seeing some of Xuan Shi going all out was pretty cool. I wonder how much of what he did is his own arts versus how much is formation work he's done?
Ling Qi's domain coming in while Kongyou was getting to her was great to see, as was Ling Qi deciding to trust everyone and not even watch the end of the fight.

The underground scouting mission went pretty well aside from Ling Qi kinda melting herself. Although we never saw an answer to the one of the greatest mysteries. Did Moon sempai wear his impurity mask over or under his regular mask?

Meizhen punishes you for not hitting her and punishes you for targetting her (she has fear effects that cancels out if you touch her), while Xuan Shi means you have no choice and all your attacks will be on him.

I'm like 98% sure Su Ling will be inner sect at the beginning of the incoming turn.
I would legit be angry for her if she doesn't get moved up. Like, this was a super dangerous mission that she proved critical to the success of and then held her ground and didn't panic when the situation went extremely sideways. At no point during the mission briefing did they say, "Su Ling you are going to be ripped into a weird dream realm and then have to fight a green 7." Su Ling deserves the inner sect.

So to all the Discord, Math Cabal wizards, what's the consensus on the plan for turn 9?
Darkness. There shall be no sun where we are, only the dark and the cold. We will embrace it, use it, mold it to our whim. And in the process, ascend to higher heights!

More seriously, we have a darkness pill that synergizes with cultivating darkness arts, so cultivate all the darkness arts we can reasonably fit.
