Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
just need to add some dedicated graveyard hate and it's fine. Something that's like, a strong damage/dispel that unravels structure into disparate parts. Just have to remember to target corpses. Would be handy to have a detritivore or fungeye that can eat the bodies. Ah well. Bad spirit ken roll will do that lol

if we leave bodies lying around, they can throw one of those fucking shoggoths out and scale up to a fourth realm or worse.
I'm pretty sure the Shoggoths don't have IFF.

And, like, we've seen them before; one of them pops up, we bug out. Simple enough, and it gets us information on just what circumstances will provoke them into using that trick, which is what we're here to learn.

Exactly.

Besides, Liming in Shen Fiber Overide managed to hold one of those off.

I'm sure the boss lady can do at least as well while we charge the RUN AWAY cannon.

Shen Fiber Overide ganked an Indigo or Violet, assuming that it used less power against a mere Fourth Realm beastie seems premature.

It is nice though to get soft confirmation about what my reads on their overall strategic posture is. An outer perimeter around their 'Vitals' with a strong garrison including fourth realms to deter attack, and a very quick way of drafting additional meaningful soldiers (As we noticed, they apparently need to train to control the skills they get with their cultivation, not to gain those skills in the first place.) So the implication seems to be that they have a standing force of third/fourth realms to serve as a tripwire, but can rapidly escalate their numbers or Realms to meet expected demand.

So, attacking the base, it will be harder I think the longer we took to get down here. And we took almost every 'Time increasing option' that we could have. We mitigated it somewhat with the good results on the fungus negotiation but we still took two out of three of the 'Time Related' events as 'Take our time'.

Like, they might not have a Fourth Realm or two present now, but they might show up while we're fighting because their training is complete. And we've already seen that their stealth game is really good.
Naw, thats your paranoia acting up again. Relax a bit, I think its seasonal.
The impurity farming apparatus appears to significantly predate the most recent conflict, and they act like people who feel like they are safe from attack, they have the elite assassin types performing rituals routinely(probably the 'Guardians' btw), at a place of power and their first thought of detecting an intruder was "a nosy spirit snuck through the wards, go fix the hole".

The civilian village likewise.
They hadn't been ramping up output or propaganda in preparation for some kind of bigger conflict, or we'd have heard, the word on the street we're hearing matches what the Empire would have said about raiding Cloud Tribe nomads for rare mats.

And everything we've seen of their stealth game is that their talismans are really good, which we know from yrsillar that those talismans are costly and temporary.
My theory was that given the short lifespans of their high tier cultivators, crashing them into a short lived super unit is dumb, it takes too much windup for too little oomph, unless there is a clear and present target that needs it, they'd be better off sinking their power into crafting items, though the lack of a dozen decades to refine their crafting skills likely means they're building extremely powerful versions of lower level talismans, and exploiting the master-apprentice chain to have most of their civilization on the same book, rather than exploring varied concepts.

[X] support an attack on the rivermouth

Daring raids are more fun to boast about than frontal attacks. Also, convincing them to reinforce the base right before the main force hits it may not be appreciated.

I thought I had stumbled into a yu-gi-oh thread for a moment there.

So does that music represent Ling Qi or does that music represent the enemy? Since the more mournful tone makes me think it's suppose to represent Ling Qi.

We don't know how strong that assassin was. Getting past an Indigo wouldn't require another Indigo if they're specced into stealth hard enough, or if they have allies running distraction, so I'd put my money on Guan Zhi being able to hold it off at the very least until the escape talisman can activate.

A bit excited to see Zhengui and Hanyi's impact on the battlefield. Not potency wise, but in light of the Heat markings we saw both on the probably-map and one some of the third realms.

Zhengui's a warm boy, and so are pretty much all of his attacks. He might be almost blinding colour to them. On the downside, they might react to some of his underground attacks coming a bit earlier than humans would, by seeing the heat underground. Also curious about the effects of him letting loose on the corrupted environment, but that would have been more thematically relevant had we attacked the farms.

For Hanyi, her attacks rob the environment of its Heat, and she herself is a cold thing. It's possible she won't be visually clear to the Shishigui as more than a vague region of total cold at the center of her efforts.

Something I'm curious about for both of them is how they might impact the efficiency of the Shishigui's desperation shoggoths, assuming they're willing to deploy them in defensive contexts in the first place. We know that FSA didn't prevent the resulting corpses from being absorbed when we used them, but it's possible that the spiritual draining and inflicted Endings hinder the process or the results somehow, and Hanyi is more deeply in tune with these aspects than Ling Qi is. Zhengui's Renewal is transformative in nature, and in a direction which appears to be incompatible with the Shishigui; this won't stop the corpse shoggoths, because we know they can absorb surface life at least temporarily, but shifting the mix of energies towards our format could shorten the half-life to collapse. Things to keep an eye out for, even if I think a lot of it isn't something we can get a reliable sense of in a frantic fight.

As for actual tactics, well, Guan Zhi is going to do what it is Guan do. As our strongest, she's the leading point the rest of us follow. Bian Ya seems exhausted, and Su Ling's unquestionably the weakest present, so I'd imagine they stay out of the main fray. Zhengui, though tired, can erect fortifications that should eat up swarms thrown at us pretty effectively. Xuan Shi is a tank who can go where he wants, probably buffing the defense of allies; efforts could stack with Zhengui's well. Ji Rong and Liao Zhu are offensive skirmishers, probably. Ling Qi can either act as a relatively stationary swamp of misery holding a flank, or as a roaming ball of hit and run misery. PLR makes it tempting to do both, teleporting in and out of wherever the battle line or allied fortifications are at a whim. Hanyi'll likely hid under Zhengui like a gremlin again, or come play tag with Ling Qi, depending on what we do.

It's kind of tempting to stack as much armor as we can on Zhengui too.
Alternatively Ling Qi may target an ally within the mist, granting them a stacking buff to Physical and Spiritual Armor as well as Resist. Allies targeted this way cannot be affected by area of effect debuffs unless the effects rank exceeds her domain rank, adjusted for potency.
Hundred Ring Armament: C
Duration: Long
Diffusing heavy wood qi through flesh and muscle the user armors themselves and their allies with the iron bark of primeval forests. Granting the user the resilience of a centennial tree, they may shrug off lesser attacks from bladed or piercing weapons, and endure even powerful ones. This effect may be extended to as many as ten allies, increasing the cost by 5 for each one.

Thousand Rings Unbreaking: B
Duration: Long
The eldest trees of the Emerald Seas are mighty things, ancient and nigh invulnerable, akin to living mountains. By calling upon the image of their power, the user gains some measure of their primeval resilience, ignoring minor wounds entirely, and lessening the effect of greater ones. Under this affect, the user becomes utterly immovable to enemy action, and cannot be grappled, unless the enemy's cultivation exceeds theirs by two levels or one realm. This effect may be extended to up to ten allies. So long as this effect is active, the user cannot be incapacitated, any blow that would reduce their health to that point instead reduces it to the lowest rank possible. On activation of this aspect, Thousand Rings Unbreaking is automatically dispelled. This effect may only activate once per scene.
Industrious Labors of Fall: C
Duration: Short
The third piece, which speaks of the labors made in preparation for the long winter, steadies the musicians audience and fills them with determination for the trials ahead. Bolsters the armor, health and Resist of listeners, up to a full rank at Bond 6.
Tanky boi.

Yeah, we've been pretty good about our Qi expenses this campaign, so this is a good time to cash in on that.

Mind, we still need to retreat, and we're not supposed to rely on the escape charm. Can't just empty our tanks willy-nilly, sadly.

Ling Qi's better on qi than most of the rest of the team, though. High baseline qi and qi-replenishing techniques in TRF, FSS, and PLR. The environment is more hostile to Guan Zhi due to her higher realm and she's got the most weight to pull, Liao Zhu is down several arm meridians which probably affects his combat efficiency, and Bian Ya's tired going into the fight. It's kind of a toss-up who actually has the most endurance in the team at the moment.

Our spirits and Su Ling get a trickle of qi from enemies in The Mist too! Sorry, other people. We just don't like you enough.

Hm, why Su Ling in particular?
The effect only applies to bond ranks of 3 or higher and I misremembered our rank with Su Ling.

  • [The Mist]
The cold and cloying mist enshrouds and announces &*(Y^ Incomplete Integration-description pending

    • +20 to Spiritual Armor, Physical and Spiritual Avoid.
    • +15 to Resist.
    • D Rank Qi regeneration while Lost Child's Elegy is active.

Way back in Forge, Ling Qi had this image of standing on the back of Zhengui and crushing a barbarian horde in front of her. It has stuck with me, and I really hope we can use this fight that way. Would be fun. Plus this is excelent family bonding.

I'd be happy to use DLS to buff PLR or RME for that extra damage, good for the eye lasers and area awareness or getting the extra oomph for PLR
