[X] Support an attack on the forward base

I am awake now and still want to know what a five tower formation is.

Finally read through this thread and some of the Forge thread, because apparently I hate myself too much to use reader mode.

Anyway, Ling Qi's true priorities require her to stay in sync with the mission given, so,

[X] Support an attack on the forward base
Well I guess this means I will not be getting anymore likes from you.

Congrats on reaching this place as part of the full archive reading elite. Also, thanks for the metric ton of reacts.

Welcome! If you really hate yourself there's also the Royal Road rewrite which also has some new content to check out :p

is there any reason why we couldn't do a two pronged attack? We have quite a few effectively middle-level third rankers that can easily take care of the village (for example) and our high ranker was always supposed to solo her own target so she can blow up forward base...

They have multiple third realms at each site. Our party is small enough that attacking two locations is complete lunacy

Iirc, we only have one escape talisman strong enough to get all of us out of here.

Hmm, I would point out that "Just because we can't detect a Fourth Realm doesn't mean one isn't there", but that's probably been considered already.

Considered:
-Civilian village - No reason to have one.
-Headwaters - Might have one, in which case Liao Zhu and Guan Zhi have to hold it off as best as they can while the escape talisman goes off.
-Forward base - Liao Zhu is a peak Green scout. If the Fourth Realm is hiding beyond his ability to detect and is doing so casually enough to keep doing that for the duration of his recon without any enemies in the area...well, get the lube because they'd probably not find it very strenous to detect him and follow him back to us.

While true, it applies to every target. There could be a particularly sneaky 4th at any of them, or all of them. Or it could be even worse, and they have a half dozen powerful cultivators we never noticed in each place. It's effectively irrelevant while we pick our target, because we don't know enough about how they do things to know if there *should* be one at the fort. Once we move to strategizing our method of attack, it'll be somewhat worth thinking about, though.

It is nice though to get soft confirmation about what my reads on their overall strategic posture is. An outer perimeter around their 'Vitals' with a strong garrison including fourth realms to deter attack, and a very quick way of drafting additional meaningful soldiers (As we noticed, they apparently need to train to control the skills they get with their cultivation, not to gain those skills in the first place.) So the implication seems to be that they have a standing force of third/fourth realms to serve as a tripwire, but can rapidly escalate their numbers or Realms to meet expected demand.

So, attacking the base, it will be harder I think the longer we took to get down here. And we took almost every 'Time increasing option' that we could have. We mitigated it somewhat with the good results on the fungus negotiation but we still took two out of three of the 'Time Related' events as 'Take our time'.

Like, they might not have a Fourth Realm or two present now, but they might show up while we're fighting because their training is complete. And we've already seen that their stealth game is really good.

Basicly enemy can wield large numbers of powerful, but relatively inexperienced, suicide troops.
Stronger they are, less they care about survival, but also less time they have had to get used to their power and skills.
1v1 they are probably less threatening than equivalent imperial cultivators, but they can easily make it 2v1, or 3v1, or 4v1, as situation requires, and, as said, unlike the imperials, they don't really care about survival as much.

Wonder what kind of population they have? They still need to tap into that population for their troops, so there is a hard limit (even beyond whatever resources they need).

We know that the rank and file of their armies is probably unintelligent beasts, the corrupt spirits or whatever those bug things were. That they support this chaff with select elite who use minion enhancements. The only intelligent direct fighters we've seen so far have been assassins. The people in the training yard could have been either or something else.

They might not need a fourth realm to be a threat in attacking the base. If your cultivation requires all your high realm people to be suicide bombers then making them alpha strikers makes the most sense to ensure maximum damage. Then you have the low realms focus on working together to buff each other and the horde of corrupt spirits you use. We know their buildings are literally made of impurity and their cultivation focuses around manipulating impurity, we also saw a "impure fire" or something that was working with them. I'm thinking we'll attack the base only to find it is the fourth realm (or an equivalent anyway).

Also, I will say one serious condition here is that if we leave bodies lying around, they can throw one of those fucking shoggoths out and scale up to a fourth realm or worse. Which makes attacking the forward base a dicey prospect.
