I feel obligated to point out that just because Plan Gamma has formations in it doesn't mean we plan on it being a major focus later in the year (even ignoring the fact that it can also be used for breaking formations, not just making them).

It's literally only two points of of Rank C, after which I'm pretty sure we all plan on focusing on more relevant skills and attributes, so if that was the reason you're not voting for Gamma, there's nothing to be afraid of.
 
So there's a tournament soon? When (and when did yrsillar tell us about that, I must have been out of the loop)?

You seem to have a grasp on how plans work: Does researching our mother's comb belong to the cultivation vote because it involves Qi? Or is it a social action, because we got it from our mother?

Or does it depend on how we investigate it?

I also agree with @Erebeal, Spirit Ken is going to be one of those "Huh, that is surprisingly useful" skills. The specific specialties we want for it are... really dependent on external factors we don't have direct control over(We have some indirect control via who we choose to associate with), but Moon is obviously prominent. How every other type stacks up is a question mark.

The numbers from the old cultivation system showed that green stones had higher potency when you used two or more in one go. I think it's the same here still, as cultivation was changed the lest in the rework.
This, pretty much. The backend of the cultivation system is essentially unchanged except for swapping in d6's for the exp generation dice on skills and attributes.

It's based on a more indepth look at red spirit stone costs per action or per cultivation die.

Comparing efficiencies is interesting. Very High pills gives +10 dice for 35 RSS/Action, which is 3.5 RSS/die. High similarly gets 2.5 RSS/die. Compare this to a max cultivation month in Appraisal, spending 8 GSS/12 YSS instead of 20 YSS. That has a cost of 4000-80 = 3920 RSS. If we divided that by 20 actions that's 196 RSS/action. It gives 40x4+80x4 = 480 dice, compared to the extra from Yellows: 10x8 = 80. Net 400 by 4 weeks is 100 dice. So in total it's 1.96 RSS/die, though spending non cultivation AP dilutes that. Given that we may run a bit short of money eventually I agree High expenditure is the wisest choice, at about that same level of efficiency.

Erebeal also has some optimization math work on it.

Formations are pretty awesome. Being able to break them is absolutely paramount, formations that are essentially bugs would make our espionage horrific, we're the stealthy infiltrator- for all our flightiness- we're exactly the sort of archetype that should be preparing things in advance. It has the potential to be a massive force multiplier, from sudden distraction henchmen!, to placing lovely formations when we break in, to allowing us options in overcoming defensive formations.

I really can't justify for settling for anything less than a B in it. I mean come on, what kind of sneaky hard doesn't want the ability to plant explosive runes.
 
Hey @yrsillar whenever you return I had a pertinent question. How do we increase Domain? Do we have to explicitly train it as a thing itself, or does it run off the fractional success system it used in the Old System?

The kind that can instead learn to do other things. Leaving explosive runes behind when we could destroy everything with an art instead or personally wait in ambush just seems pointless. Our formations will never be more potent at destroying things than Ling Qi personally is.

It's more that explosive runes don't need to be built by Ling Qi in particular. While there is an argument for a tinker sneak that creates special bombs, then that's a full build. I don't think we want the significant investment into that and instead use consumables created by allies in the rare time we do need consumables.

Like Suyin or Ling for example, though Su Ling is more for the "potions" equivalent stuff considering her current path.

Naw, some skill in it remains handy for filling in utility roles without the degree of dedication a full Art suggests.

Also theres a hybrid route where we pattern our secondary Formations after Formations allies so we can use their fancier stuff or customizing it on the fly without the added difficulty of dumbing it down for someone ignorant of it

Formations do not seem to work via arts however, so using that comparison is basically empty. Instead from what the state of the Empire's comm system shows, it indicates that there are paths of specialization where you basically have to make a thesis, or several and then progress off of that. General level formations use, reading formations, and formations breaking is something we have invested in, but it is the root of our skill in the subject.

Patterning off our allies might work, but I doubt we will be able to use the stuff they build on their own. I.e we'll have to help them develop it. Which like, has merit for some things, but we should be choosy about how we spend our time.

But if someone else is building it for us then we don't need formations to make it. Problem solved.
