Super Robot Quest

Expert Mode: It reacts to Captain Sasaki, who secretly harbored dreams of being a Magical Girl in her youth.
Current hypothesis is that the artifact could possibly respond to sentients around it, but this is not verified. Max wants to ensure there's no dangerous energy or radiation first before she conducts further tests in depth.
Also, are there animes that combine Super Robots with Magical Girls?
Does that mean we might be the first?
I will be very much fine with this development.

It looks like the AI uses Russian words.
"Commandant" is not a Russian word for a military rank.

Commandant is Major Devin's actual title as appointed by Peters. So it's appropriate. But the point you made is received, I won't be going that way.

Eh, don't take it seriously, I was joking. Feel free to exaggerate it as much as you wish, as long as the speech-police here don't catch you. :V

Besides, Iris is the avatar of the AI, so craziness is expected.

@Basarin Has anyone told Cavalier about the potential alien artifact that we have in our possession. It might be relevant to why both sides are on earth. I don't buy the energy stealing part. I think its a cover for both sides looking for something important and the Artifact might be part of it.

And now to worku once more!

I'll contribute as best as I can on my phone, but forgive me if I'll be a bit terse.

Yes, Holiday Cheer
A quick one while I type up the next section. After this, you all get your yearly review from Peters!

That said, you all are going to have quite a lot to boast about.

Outskirts of Gasparton

"Keep your heads down!"

The tank-mobiles scattered about in the woods stayed shock still as a passing flight of those weird helicopters flew above their position in the tree tops. The branches swayed violently by the helicopters' passing. Dead branches were strewn about the hiding spot, and several of the operatives were forced to hold down the camouflage tarps.

They waited a good two minutes before allowing themselves to relax.

"…no, this ain't gonna work," the leader muttered. He stretched his limbs out, seemingly unconcerned with the biting cold that came part and parcel with winter in this part of the District. "Tell everyone to bunker down and get warm," he told a nearby subordinate. "Something's got the Defense Force goons agitated."

Barely noticing the sketched salute from the man, the leader turned around to the larger tarp in the gathering. Part tent, and part camouflage netting for the equipment, he bent his head downwards towards the hastily assembled field table holding the radio.

"You have not launched the attack," the voice on the other end said before he had a chance to even speak. Typical. "Explain yourself, Warlord."

"Do you or do you not want this attack to have a snowball's chance in hell to work?" the man demanded. His voice was low, guttural and raspy. He took the moment to strike a match before lighting a nearby carved pipe. "Something's got the local goons spooked. I have recon teams out there, but they're reporting the same thing: heightened patrols and constant overwatch."

The Red King's voice remained silent for a few dangerous moments. Warlord simply toked the pipe, content to wait for an answer while basking in the relative warmth the portable stove nearby offered.

"…what is your assessment?" the Red King asked.

"Wait one month," Warlord said promptly. "Wait one month for whatever has them paranoid to die down. After a month, patrols or no, I will launch the raid."

"…one month then," the King consented. "I expect results."

As soon as the connection cut out, Warlord rolled his eyes. "Results," he muttered. "Sure."

His gaze then turned up towards the cloaked warmachine. The engines were still cold, and it was still ratcheted down to the earth…but it looked hungry. Just a flick of the switch, and the engine would come to life, sounding its great clarion call to war.

"Hang in there," he assured the cold machine. "Soon, we take you out for a spin."

Warlord smirked when he imagined the creaking sounds as a sound of contentment.

Due to high Security Net Rating, Westphalian Raid delayed by one month! Estimated time of arrival is conclusion of Year Two, Turn One!

Engineering Bay

"Sam Carlson here!" the public announcement speaker blares across the campus. "True Fact: even science takes a break for Christmas. So on behalf of the command team, take a load off, hang out with each other, and eat more food than you've ever eaten before! Everyone on patrol duties is going to get the best takeout plates mankind's ever devised."

"So Merry Christmas, everyone! Now go out there and do some good gift-exchanging science!"

"So why am I helping you to set up multicolored lights?" Cavalier asked. With his height, he hung up the lights relatively easily.

"It's a tradition, Cav!" Satsuma says happily as she strings along some more along the gantry. "Happens every year!...er, solar cycle."

"It's new to me too," Katarina says with a shrug from a nearby monitor. "Just go along with it. Humans like to celebrate holidays."

"We have to, child," Ignatov gently chides as he sits back in his chair, a steaming mug of cocoa resting on his desk. "Especially with organizations such as ours, humans have to take a break. We would collapse from mental exhaustion otherwise."

"You get exceptions," you say wryly as you look at the Duo. They're actively debating with each other over what looks to be a sample of K-Scale. Nearby, you also see Sasaki joining in on the discussion, one hand taking notes while the other holds a cup of tea. "For some people, they treat work as a vacation. So you have to drag them out of it."

"We don't exactly have regularly scheduled days like this back home," Cavalier says. "Usually a holiday is announced a bit before it happens. Everyone has fun, gets drunk, some property probably gets demolished, we take another day to fix everything up, then it's back to work."

Satsuma just stares at him. "Your holidays are weird," she says.

Cavalier's red optics just stare right back at her. "Says you," he says back as he finishes up.

You sigh as you also lean back against the wall. In a few days, you would have your yearly review with BG Peters. But for the next few days, you'd relax.

Considering everything else you've done, you think you've earned it.

Omake idea: configuration is possible through small, powerful, and precise servos. The Engineering crew is slightly crazy and very impatient. Powered exoskeletons ensue when the normal heavy lifting equipment is down for maintenance.

Whee, Security Net bought us that extra turn to get our special weapons and armor online!

After all, research on the energy weapon, lessons learned, and K-Scale reinforcement all finish next turn.

Our patrols have attack choppers and transforming Mecha. It'll be fine, seeing as it's more or less irregulars offering a stand up battle to the home base of a Super Robot.

Yeah, they're attacking regardless, just that the security net is enough to deter an instant charge at the first opportunity.
More to the point, we don't know they're there. Seeing as "enemies skulking in the woods" is generally grounds for a miniturn.

But yeah, we have too dense of a net for them to think they can exploit temporary gaps successfully.

The tank-mobiles scattered about in the woods stayed shock still as a passing flight of those weird helicopters flew above their position in the tree tops.

The enemy has come armed and ready!

"Explain yourself, Warlord."

Even the code-names are edgy.

He took the moment to strike a match before lighting a nearby carved pipe.

He may be an undercover operative, fanatical killer and more, but he will bring a pipe in a sneaking mission.

The engines were still cold, and it was still ratcheted down to the earth…but it looked hungry. Just a flick of the switch, and the engine would come to life, sounding its great clarion call to war.

Look, they brought us target practice as a gift! How kind of them!!

Due to high Security Net Rating, Westphalian Raid delayed by one month! Estimated time of arrival is conclusion of Year Two, Turn One!

Wait, was the "heightened security" standard patrols that confused the enemy guys then?

"So why am I helping you to set up multicolored lights?" Cavalier asked. With his height, he hung up the lights relatively easily.

Because size matters.

"It's new to me too," Katarina says with a shrug from a nearby monitor.

But, you can download the Internet and learn everything! Except for the porn, stay away from that.

We don't exactly have regularly scheduled days like this back home," Cavalier says. "Usually a holiday is announced a bit before it happens. Everyone has fun, gets drunk, some property probably gets demolished, we take another day to fix everything up, then it's back to work."

Sounds like some hardcore jobs at Earth and/or the plot of many movies and shows.

"Usually a holiday is announced a bit before it happens. Everyone has fun, gets drunk, some property probably gets demolished, we take another day to fix everything up, then it's back to work."

I see that our Alien Comrades are a species of class and culture.

In more serious news, it sounds like the Kausen have mostly work "holidays,' rather then holidays with cultural/religious significance.

End of Year Evaluation - A.D. 2070

Unity Station, Yearly Review

"You've had quite the busy year, Major," Peters says with a smirk.

"Among other things," you say. You're both seated in her office, and you are struck with a sense of de ja vu. Hardly anything in her office seems to have changed.

Except one thing has changed. You.

You walked into this office almost a year ago. Just recently promoted to a Major, and suddenly dragged into a new position you knew nothing about. Now you were the forefront authority of the Earth Union's earliest Super Robots.

Funny how life works that way.

You do spot one thing… "Is that a-?" you ask.

"Oh, this thing?" A glass display case with a mockup TMU sits along the wall behind her. "Let us just say you made some manufacturers incredibly happy," Peters says, looking quite amused. "Singlehandedly saved some of their production lines if you believe the hyperbole." Staring back at you, she says, "More to the point, you have caused quite a stir. Success attracts attention, after all."

"Ma'am-" you begin to say.

"Just wait, Major," she says. "Let us get the official part out of the way first."

Yearly Review

Defense Force Assets

Campus Grounds Repairs – This will be the only time I assign you any sort of grading criteria on this category. Within a few months you have turned a ruined university into a bloody fortress. Well done, Major.

Security Net - I dare say that you've likely warded off attack attempts just from what you have in place. Mounted patrols integrated with aerial sweeps, walls around your critical infrastructure - all within a year. You accomplished more than most line units do in two years.

Information Gathering - You already have a basic system in place, so I will not begrudge this of you. Just, from now on, have your agents liaison with the Intelligence Services first, hmm?

Pilot Corps - You have one very strong pilot candidate, and what looks to be a potential one. I will press you to find more candidates for more machines, and soon. But for a start, this will do quite nicely.

Aviation - Captain Sasaki's lobbying for your own dropship aside, I am quite satisfied with the presence of the permanent landing facilities in the area. It's because of this that I was able to convince certain circles to divert more resources on a permanent basis your way.

Facilities - Barracks, Motor Pool (overlaps with Engineering), Landing Pad, Proving Grounds

Engineering Assets

Supercomputer AI - I will not lie, Major. The presence of pre-Unification code as sentient AI has disturbed a few people. You would not have heard of this because I wanted to give you time to test them. From what I am seeing, they are loyal and productive. One more year should do before we can allow them to go public.

Their conduct is on your hands, Major. Ensure they behave themselves.

Variable Configuration - At the moment, I daresay this is the defining feature of the DFRI, and for the better. At least as we stand now. The Jackal alone has been making waves with the Unity Station establishment. Rest assured, those in the know are aware of who to thank for these.

Combinable Configuration - Officially the Timberwolf does not exist. Unofficially, I am very pleased that we have it. The fact you have had it battle tested and are still improving it is just icing on the cake.

K-Class Materials - Early developments yet, I understand. But this field appears promising enough. Push this one aggressively, Major. I expect some interesting developments out of them.

Facilities - Motor Pool (overlaps with Defense Force), Engineering Bay, 'The Lair' Supercomputer Complex

Science Assets

ESP Theory - I honestly was not expecting anything to come out of this field this early. But I am happy to be proven wrong. The Man Machine Interface is not something I plan on letting out into the wild. Congratulations to Dr. Carlson are in order.

Kaiju Biotechnology - Fitting that the sample you captured is now the cornerstone for this field of development. I am already well pleased with the development of the K-Class Materials. I expect further results from you in this regard.

Xenotechnology - Interesting fact - that artifact was utterly ignored until Dr. Brand came into your employ. I don't know who or why just yet, but you may have drawn some attention...if they knew where you were.

Keep it under a tight lid, Major.

Facilities - ESP Lab, Kaiju Biotechnology Lab, Kaiju Tissue Growth Facility

Deeds

Destruction of Westphalian Spy Cell - You removed a potential problem before it could fester and become worse, however accidentally it happened. I would not relax your guard even through the New Year's holiday. The Westphalians do not strike me as the sort who take that sort of loss lying down.

Distribution of the Jackal and the TMU - Poor George still refuses to take my calls anymore. Hah! His loss.

Did you know that Colonel Kim was inquiring for further designs? Apparently the Jackal has already been instrumental in several rescue operations in the European District. Already a favorite amongst its pilots, I am told.

I think I can authorize one more distributed design for resources. Just for the time being, however. Otherwise people will think I am not a miserly old bat.

Relief of Grand Coulee - As far as the public is concerned, their eyes are on George's 'relief efforts.' You and I know better, and I am glad you stringently made that point clear to Captain Sasaki. The Intelligence Services were quite pleased with the data on the Kausen; no one else has been able to come close.

Your Timberwolf dominated its opposition and rescued a possible friendly.

Open Dialogue with Legio Galbinus - I am still apprehensive, but if this brings us closer to bringing the Kausen raids to a close, then I am all for it. All the same, I fully expect to be briefed before you undertake any sort of diplomatic action with them.

Combat Unit Types Available
CR-01 Jackal
TMU-33
- Cominable Configuration with Jackal Available (unnamed as of yet)
SV-10 Shepherd (Support)
- Combinable Configuration with Jackal Available (Timberwolf Formation)

In closing: well done, Major Devin.

The DFRI was treated as a farce when we first established it. I am proud to say I found the right officer to bring it to mission readiness. You passed, with flying colors at that.

But enough pleasantries. This is my task for you for the upcoming year:

With your new 'Super Robot Doctrine' in mind, I want the establishment of a subordinate combat Company with a Super Robot at its core, backed by support combat units. I am not speaking of your dispatch team of Lieutenant Callaghan.

Finish refining what you have. I want a new independent combat company with a Super Robot to call its own completed by the end of the year. They will remain subordinate to you, but if I give the call, I expect them to answer.

Enjoy the New Year, Major. I expect great things.

Resource Point Income: Permanently increased by +2! (Stellar Evaluation)
Landing Pad Bonus Increased! Bonus is now at +2/+3

We need to start looking for more pilots for our super robots if we are going to build a second one. And then there is the coming attack from the Westphalian group. More research points are always welcome and I really hope we get a dropship soon.

Yep, but one thing at a time. The Timberwolf should be entering Beta soon.

We do need to start work on a new core unit though. Hmm.

I wonder what kind of machine should serve as the baseline for that.

That gives me another idea for acquiring future income: Merchandising!
If NERV could do it, we can do better. And with less child sacrifices.

One more year should do before we can allow them to go public. Their conduct is on your hands, Major. Ensure they behave themselves.

No General, what have you done!! Now you have tempted fate to have an evil AI show up.

Push this one aggressively, Major. I expect some interesting developments out of them.

HINT HINT HINT!

But I am happy to be proven wrong. The Man Machine Interface is not something I plan on letting out into the wild.

Minor spacing typo.

Xenotechnology - Interesting fact - that artifact was utterly ignored until Dr. Brand came into your employ.

More evidence that this device was cloaking itself from most minds except those... Special.

I think I can authorize one more distributed design for resources. Just for the time being, however. Otherwise people will think I am not a miserly old bat.

We ought to produce another "civilian" mech then. Perhaps an helicopter/mecha combo like the Valkirie was supposed to be?

Finish refining what you have. I want a new independent combat company with a Super Robot to call its own completed by the end of the year. They will remain subordinate to you, but if I give the call, I expect them to answer.

She wants a second Super Robot when we don't even have completed the 1st one yet? She's demanding a lot.
Also, in before the second unit's info gets leaked and someone makes a copy, complete with evil-styled camo paintings.

I wonder what kind of machine should serve as the baseline for that.

Clearly that tank that has been mentioned once or twice. They sound cool. Besides, as a tank it will have a powerful ranged weapon and armor from the start.
