Ultimately, this thing isn't built as a mainline combatant. More ships is probably a better use of the industry which would go into boosting the cannon numbers.

That could make sense for the cannon upgun, but wouldn't upgrading the engines for the five ships be 15 Industry instead, given it increases the cost by +3?
We're changing out both the Warp-3 engine for Warp-5 and the chemical thrusters for impulse, which makes it 30 instead of 15. At least I'm pretty sure that's how that is being calculated.

+11 for every Stingray to be a full warship without weaknesses? Count me in this looks like a nice thing already.

I'd like to focus industrial efforts on getting the Warp 5 engine up to snuff.

Impulse engine upgrades make it even less necessary for the Stingray to gain additional phase cannons. The atomic torpedoes, though, will be a fun surprise for any Romulans who ask politely for a taste of them!

I'd much rather not do the refit right now, let that 36 industry compounds on itself, and then just build more new ships next turn.

[X] 0: Do not upgrade the Stingray-class engines.

Not sure where people are getting the idea that the Stingray isn't a real warship. It is literally nothing but a warship. Just because it doesn't have the maximum amount of guns doesn't change that.

Reminder that the NX is the equivalent of a heavy cruiser. The Stingray is a lighter warship but is still very much a proper warship.

It would be a decent way to fatten up the fleet, certainly, and I wouldn't be opposed to cutting back on some upgrades to turn into more ships, but making the ships we have potentially punch above their weight saves us from the risk of having to constantly replace them if they get into a fight. At that point, we might risk having to spend what we don't have.

It'll be an embarrassing day if a Stingray is the first ship to reach Warp 5. After all, the Stingray's nacelles are the ones that are actually in the sprint configuration so theoretically they should get extra speed with the same engine as compared to the NX.
