She'd heard her mother and father talking about what had happened to him while he'd been missing. It sounded like he'd met actual people she'd only read about, like the monk Ku-kai who'd brought Buddhism to Japan, or Son Goku the Monkey King!
Before anyone brings it up, this is not a Dragon Ball reference. The Japanese name of Son Wukong is Son Goku.
"Mou…" she grumbled as she cut some vegetables for the stir-fry they were making.
Oh no. Takara's inner Kyoshu is showing!

It's a Tolkien homage: the battle of five armies.

Four attackers fighting over who gets to loot the city while the defenders sit in the caves city, waiting for the right time to strike.

... If giant birds get involved, I'm not sure what I'll do. Either cackle like a mad man (if well written; 99% chance, Kyrslin's a pretty decent author), or start crying (Dead Eagles are Sad!; also the other 10% chance, authors sometimes like to mess with us).

While there are some eagles native to the region, the ones most likely to respond can do Mach 2+ and has one of the highest climb rates of anything that isn't a rocket . It'd be joined by its little brother, and a brutish and ugly cousin that goes "Guns, guns guns!".

The problem is that the targets are "In the weeds", so to speak.

Until you said something, I hadn't even considered it. Really.

Glad you haven't. If you were going by PJ's version of the battle, you'd have to somehow incorporate giant rock eating worms in there.
Of course, you could say that would be appropriate in a "Worm" fanfic... ;)

Hmm, Ashram may get a chance to change his mind. It appears that the other raiding force they've been expecting (the one that contacted Tiamat about hiring some Red Dragons) is about to arrive. Watching them get mulched will be educational for The Dark Knight

Ashram is dealing with the worst kind of arrogance that exists - the "I've defeated so many that I know that I'm the biggest, baddest badass around" kind. The kind where the arrogance is back with enough history that they can no longer consider a world where they can't defeat anything they face.

Until that moment that they see the sword point aiming for their face with no way to stop it ...

Ashram might have protection from fire, but I'd bet most of his backup doesn't. And it's possible that prot from fire does NOT include dragonfyre. He'll also need prot from cold, acid, poison gas, kinetics, explosive cannon rounds, and good old high velocity lead.

Anyone in doubt that a curbstomp would be step up for what's going to happen to them?

And whatever kind of energy the Fleet of Fog ships fire

Forgot about them. Guess he'll need "Protection from Plasma" or "Protection from Laser" spells/enchants/potions too. Too bad he probably never considered that he'd be going up against truly exotic weaponry/effects. Too bad. I wonder if his loot will survive...
Critical question, and one of the reasons the Rule is 'Loot then Burn'. :)

(There are reasons why Cold/stasis attacks are attractive - you may even get an opportunity to question your target (without using necromancy) afterward!)
