I'm splitting the training a lot of ways, but I think it'll be worth it. There's a lot of low-hanging fruit we can pick up.
Personal actions I want Abjorn and Asva, the third I'm more ambivalent on.

Kind of hoping we can keep training artcraft, since we need it at 2 to continue doing stuff with the meteor plotline.

Might be wise to figure out something we can do for the Witch of equal value to a Fylgja unveiling. Like her or not, letting a debt like that sit is just asking for it to be called in at an inconvenient time.

So I had this whole idea about how Horra might have been responsible for our baby brother dying, but the timing makes that basically impossible. Horra and arrived on Winter 1, Turn 2, armed and openly asking for Steinarr.

So... I'm a bit perplexed. Like, it's been multiple years. Horra arrived with enough confidence to be asking after Steinarr openly, presumably because he wanted to confront him. Within a month, he'd connected up with the Burissons, who both don't get along well with Steinarr and would know where Steinarr lived. Why... hasn't he done anything.

I also ran into some random interestign stuff while I was diving.

Side note 1: The numbers in that first fight against that bandit didn't do Steinarr justice at all.

Side note 2: ran into this quote in Winter 1/1, from a raven watching Steinarr train Halla for the first time.
A blonde and handsome young man sits in a tent surrounded by trees made of ice. He sips from a steaming mug of some kind of deep brown, bitter liquid before setting it down on the table. It refills the moment he lets go, as it always does, as it always will. He knew not what the liquid was, only that it filled him with an energy unlike anything he'd experienced before.

Naturally, he'd killed the merchant selling it, alongside any potential onlookers, before taking the stock for himself. Only he could be allowed to have this wonder.

"What does he see in you that I can't?" The young man asks his fylgja as it shows him all it had witnessed. He strokes his short beard, a finger on his jaw and a thumb on his chin. "What do you have that I don't?"

One day, he would escape from this prison.

One day, he would have his revenge.

Side note 3: ran into this random comment.
As long as the Nornir exist, no Norseman will live past their allotted time, nor can they die before meeting it.
And now I find myself curious. Is the existence of the Nornir something that might reasonably be changed?

(I mean... talk about defying the heavens in a quest for immortality, and all, but....)

I would be very surprised if Halla ran into the thing that killed her baby brother. While she's alive, that is.

One of her descendants, though? Completely possible.

Same with Ice Prison Guy

Reasonably? No.

Un-Reasonably? Yes.

The training in that last turn is missing the die we put in training Artcraft.

Which is actually super relevant to know the result of since we specifically need Artcraft 2 and thus a specific amount.

But skipping one turn of that is fine given that we only need it by the time our Imaging Skill-Trick hits 6 successes so...

Okay, so, we are actually very close to being able to afford a Good Gambeson rather than a decent one (which is to say +8 Endurance rather than +4)...if we make just a bit more money. We also want to progress our crafting trait, obviously. I do want to examine the armor, don't get me wrong, but getting to the point where we can get good armor is super important. I also think we need to put more than the bare minimum into spending time with mom this turn. Like, our relationship is strained let's try and improve that, yeah?

In terms of training, I think we need to actually train more than merely Housecraft to placate mother, and we need all this stuff anyway. Our non-combat skills are distinctly lacking. This puts 4d6 towards stuff she likely considers womanly rather than 1d6 and gets us started learning Wildcraft as well. We do also need to put a bunch of dice into getting up Hamr up at some point, but I figure we can do that next turn.

oh dammit, fixing. I'll add in a free dice to it to make up.

edit: You guys get to have a pseudo-live reaction to me rolling dice, lmao, because of COURSE the dice roll incredibly on the one I missed

No, I just rolled with an extra dice. Artcraft Ranked Up, by the way.

Ah! Okay, cool, that means we can go do things with the meteor as soon as we complete the Skill-Trick.

Actually, that brings up a really relevant point: What happens to excess successes when learning a skill-trick? Because I'm tempted to put a bunch of dice into learning Imaging Skill-Trick either this turn or next (probably next since someone already voted for my above plan with only one) to try and ensure it completes...but if we put 4 dice in and roll, like, 6 successes we're two successes over...do those just go away or what?

My immediate instinct is that they should go back into the main skill, but right now there's no indication of what actually happens.

Steinarr stares at you, eyes alight with an aghast glow. "He kicked you?! How... How disrespectful! If you're gonna hit someone, you hit them with a weapon or, if you have to, whatever you have on hand. Your feet?" He visibly recoils, shaking his head. "What an ass. It's a good thing he's dead or else that would've been a full outlawing!"
NORSEMAN!!!! (Screams in exasperation)
Well, that's that, I guess.
The uneaten bowl of porridge...

The one that's supposed to be eaten by the farm's spirit.

Eh, it's probably fine.
No, Halls, it isn't.
We should mention this to mom.
Curious Hallr didn't comment on it.
"No, but the way you're acting tells me more than words can say." Asveig purses her lips and scowls. "I will teach you, this time. Burn me again and you're on your own."
...
Yeah, I am an idiot. Still, the confirmation is nice.
'Witches lack the Law's protections. Kill her.'

You ask a few more questions, but the answer to each is little more than variations of 'kill her'.
Well, that's just lovely. Damn greed roll, even if understandable
AN: Nice try with the Blackhand chat, but it'll take more than that to bypass the Reinforce-Shield Mastery requirement
Wasn't the intention, but looks like the whole bloodline is more... Aggressive, in battles. Guess that fire blessing goes deeper than I thought...

Also, halfdan, who are you, to make a weapon out of pure Oshirrt???

I suspect whatever is doing this is making it difficult to notice. Hallr's not oblivious by any means, but noticing things is also not his primary area (his primary area is burning things).

I mean, we do have a route to it, and it will be passed down to our children once we have completed that route. It'll hopefully be fine.

Also, halfdan, who are you, to make a weapon out of pure Oshirrt???

Someone scary. Even if this isn't evidence of that, we have plenty of other indications.

Orthstirr-based weaponry is pretty beans, on account of not having anything solid to work off of. Great for showing people how to do certain motions, crap for most else. Orthstirr on its own doesn't have a lot of substance, it's a bit like grease, in a way. Great for slicking the wheels and getting everything moving smoothly, but it tends to be kinda useless on its own.

Does take a lot of knowledge of weaponry in order to make an accurate weapon, though
Wasn't the intention,
That was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but I forgot the :V or :p

Stigandr declined the invitation, which has you worried.

So I really like your plan @DeadmanwalkingXI but do you think you could add a write-in to the Abjorn action, telling them about Stigandr depression from his father dying, asking him to check up on their friend when they get a chance (not trying to be dramatic he's giving off a lot of flags for suicide risks) and asking if he has any ideas for helping Stigandr through this? He's both of ours best friend, after all.

We did just check on him. I definitely want to check on him again, but doing so every turn seems...intrusive, maybe? Something like that anyway. But mentioning to Abjorn that he should check on him as well seems fine, yeah, I'll add it in (EDIT: And added in).

Um should we have a free action for continuing the storyline of the meteor or a new option since we have rank 2 Artcraft now?

No, we also need to complete the Imaging Skill-Trick for that.

I understand what you mean, though tbf, I think the turns are long enough that it's not so weird. My impression were they roughly 2 months out of the modern year or so, which doesn't feel that off, but I might be missing something.

But yeah, I appreciate adding the write-in.

Each turn is two months, but the vibe I get is that the actions we pick are the things we do that are most common/important. So if we invest an action purely into spending time with someone, it's not just a little time, it's a lot of our free time invested in him during that two month period.

So if we keep spending an action on Stigandr every turn we're definitely being a bit clingy, IMO. That would be less problematic with some of our other friends, but seems problematic with him specifically for several reasons.

But yeah, I appreciate adding the write-in.

No problem. I'm not sure it's necessary, but it seems reasonable enough to me.

Good point, I sometimes think of them as one off scenes that are important enough that they get narrative attention about, but it makes sense to think of them as just snippets that reflect our wider habits during the turn.

Edit: I'm used to similar quests where the paradigm if you don't use a action to meet with someone over a time period you're assume to be ghosting them over the time period, but I get the vibe Halla has a lot normal social interactions outside of what we pick here.

I think it's a timeframe thing. When every turn is a week and you get several actions, then not spending actions on someone meaning you don't see them makes some sense...when every turn is two months and you only have three actions, that logic no longer holds up.
