Hmm..

Pros:
+ Possibly get cultivation knowledge in a 'safe' way.
+ Almost no chance of dying due to having a supercultivator near us to deal with threats and failed rolls.
+ Theoratically improved chances of getting Aki out fast.

Cons:
- It might be hard to go through with the tell Aki about Odr plan if this guy is here.
- Have to deal with a guy that is eminently very hateable.
- Halla will have to deal with a guy who's hitting on her for basically the entire trip.

An additional con is that he might attract Abysslings by not being careful enough. He doesn't seem a careful sort of person. And that's not great even if he'll be fine given that they're made of lethal poison.

Can we spend a Calm charge on this? I'm going to assume we can.

[X] Take this 'person' with you
-[X] Wow, you're so big and strong, I bet you must know a lot about cultivation! I'm sure impressed by handsome men who tell me secrets about Odr!
-[X] Spend a Calm charge so we don't end up trying to push him out of the boat due to his annoying flirting.

We have an opportunity to go on a fishing trip with Definitely Not Loki, it's in the handbook that we have to take that shot, it's too cool to miss out on.

Edit: Seems there is a new plan

For Aki (DeadmanwalkingXI)
Sees souls without seeing
Spies the future in dreams
Kindles counselor's craft
Clever, cunning, and quick

Fine feathered friend he is
Following felag's need
Sly scouting seeks foemen
So swiftly strikes Swordwing

'For Aki', my poem about our good friend Aki, emphasizing his perceptiveness, good advice in general, and the fact that he's never hesitated to back us up in a fight. It's maybe a bit on the aspirational side when it comes to his battle prowess, but it seems valid. I'm not perfectly happy treating 'kindles' as a word beginning with 'C', but it otherwise seems okay.

If granted a Reward Die for this I will put it towards the Labor check to save him.

Is it normally that strong?

Do other people get the same feeling about us?

As Astmundur shrugs and swaggers towards you, you can't help but feel like this is somehow Modgudr's revenge...

"Hey there, sweet thing, the name's Astmundur," the walking ball of slime extends a hand, his mouth twisting into a sleazy grin as he winks, "feel free to scream it as loud as you want."

"I'm married."

The grin widens, turning competitive, "But I don't see him here!"

Ah, so this is revenge. But what could you have done to piss her off enough for this?
Well we did annoy her with one too many questions. Plus the faceplanting at her beauty thing. She probably didn't like that too much.

So Modgudr is enacting revenge in a like-like manner. We get someone who's really annoying, plus she gets rid of Astmundur (assuming she did not summon him, which it doesn't seem like her at all). On top of that it's totally a 'gift' to us in that we get someone to talk to since we're so talkative.

Plus Modgudr doesn't have a continuous revenge escalation scale she can fine-tune for proportionate amounts of revenge. It's discrete points along a line!

I forgot, but is the reprisal against disclosure immediate?
Because if so, that's a bonus for Aki doing the disclosure.
Modgudr does not like to talk to people for extended periods of time.
Yeah, that's fair. Let's be a Drenh and take the revenge on the chin. We did appear out of nothing, without either invitation or notice ahead of time. Then pestered her after getting all the info we needed to do our stuff.

But, one thing I feel is important.
"And as I said last time," the mists darken as his silhouette closes in, "all things have their price!"
Let's get the business out of the way first or he might just ask something we really do not want to deal with.
... On that note, the info about the rainmaker Vs ironjaw fight is probably big news, and should be a good bargaining chip.

Edit:
Those are both very good questions.
I mean, how many times did halla played the Valkyrie stick? :V

It would be awkward asking this though.

Well I suppose we could ask Blackhand about the former. However, unless both Modgudr and Odin aren't actual Odr users, which seems somewhat unlikely, you'd expect their Main-Character-Effect to be far stronger. It wouldn't surprise me if they suppressed it, of course. Odin and Modgudr both obviously would, given their inclinations. Then there's the possibility that Astmundur is intentionally amplifying his Odr-ness, which also seems in-character for him.

The latter.. well.. it would be kind of awkward to ask, but very funny. No unbiased response from anyone is possible.

It does make you wonder if it gives Halla that much more Orthsirr than she normally would from any given action because people are just more focused on what she's doing.

"And as I said last time," the mists darken as his silhouette closes in, "all things have their price!"

A flash of light cuts through the mists, parting them for the einheri who must be Astmundur. Light flashes again as he smiles, his teeth whiter than unspoiled snow. His hair is cut short and slicked back while his face lacks a beard. A perpetual smirk stays smeared across his ever-so-punchable face.

There's a certain atmosphere to his presence, like the world reacts to him like a stage does an actor.

A spark of realization flashes in Modgudr's eye as her glare turns to cunning. "Astmundur, this is Halla," when did you give her your name? "Halla, this is Astmundur. Halla is looking to fish up a friend's soul. You can help her."

As Astmundur shrugs and swaggers towards you, you can't help but feel like this is somehow Modgudr's revenge...

I think Halla should immediately name a price for Astmundur being allowed to help her.

!!!

We can use 'odity' (pronounced like 'oddity') to describe the odr-ness of people.

I am very clever and am a genius, yes.

You sure you wanna make a transaction with this guy?

-[X] Honestly, just make small talk, you'll accept Modgudr's little vengeance as it is. You're getting distracted here anyway, if he lets something interesting slip though... Well, bonus.

Hmm, he's probably smart enough to twist our words against us if it comes to that. And given Modgudr has not skewered him dead..

Is he on a boat of his own, or is he going to be on Eric's former Faering?

Asmundr means 'God-Protector'. Make me wonder if it was his birth name, or his name as an Einhenjar.

Interesting that Modgudr can smell our cultivation. I wonder if Abjorn can do the same once we unlock Odr for him?

Our best bet is probably be as boring as possible.

e:

There will be 3 rolls. 2 Sailing rolls (1 there and 1 back), 1 Labor roll to fish Aki up. The better sailing, the quicker you sail. Failing a sailing roll means that you run the risk of getting beached. Failing Aki's fishing roll means you've gotta come back and do it again, as the Abysslings will be chomping at the bit to get you.
Can we use Odr or Fight of Our Life on these rolls? In particular Aki's.

It's sort of a Fight. Against the Gjoll, and saving Aki, respectively.

If we can, we can zoom to Aki, fish him out really fast, then get home also quickly.

Ah, I thought he would ask a price for the "honor" of accompanying us. If not, that's for the better.

And I forgot to vote...

Not the best measuring stick to use, given that death doesn't stick to einherjar (side note for those uncertain: einherjar is the plural, einheri is the singular)

Asmundr means that, yes, but that's not his name. His name is Astmundur, or 'Love Protector'.

Now, whether or not he picked that for himself or was given it as a birthday present — or if there is even any meaningful distinction between the two — is up for debate.
