Would it make sense for Aki to go for more help, using his raven to go ahead and try to find Steinarr or someone?

Other than that, first priority has to be saving the kid.

Man, having Stig and his arrows right now would be good. Oh well, I suppose we should attempt to save Jordan so Halfdan keeps his head? Presumably, he's the strongest fighter on our side, so we don't want him going apeshit.

That, or I suppose we could try and surprise the bandit leader, though I doubt we can actually kill him, even if both Halla and Abjorn try.

So...
- Find some way for Aki to be at least marginally useful without risking his own life too badly.
- Turn the fight against the enforcer into a 3-on-1.
- Watch out for the leader joining in.

These are bandits, so their orthstirr is likely to be relatively ow, even if their stats are decent.
The bandit enforcer has a two-handed axe. That's something that's inclined to wide, sweeping blows, and it means no shield. Immobilize trick on that axe will likely pay serious dividends, if we can pull it off.

His presumed elder brother is locked in battle with an absolute monster of a man. He towers over the battlefield, dwarfing even Abjorn's prodigious height. The bare-chested man holds a massive abomination of an axe both hands.
So we could hit him with an "Inertia-Arresting-Throw" Hugareida. See how well he fights against the wounded kid while unable to move.
Would also give us a bit of time to reach them.

Would it make sense for Aki to go for more help, using his raven to go ahead and try to find Steinarr or someone?
He could try. Or we send our owl.
Steinarr know our fylgja. Our fylgja coming to him and making a racket should make it clear to him it is a "drop what you are doing, take your weapon and follow this bird" situation.

That, or I suppose we could try and surprise the bandit leader, though I doubt we can actually kill him, even if both Halla and Abjorn try.
If we don't go directly to help the son (which imho we should), the next best thing would be to is to surprise the bow-bandits. An axe to their faces should free up the bow boy to shoot at other bandits.

- Find some way for Aki to be at least marginally useful without risking his own life too badly.
Have his raven fly overhead and keep an overview. He can call out if the situation is changing and make sure we aren't surprised. Preventing surprise attacks on us is very valuable.

other thoughts:
- The bandit leader is carrying a nice shield, and wearing mail. There's no real way to take him out in anything but a long, involved slog. He's also generally powerful. He's covered in loot, but it's fake loot. The goal with him is to do what it takes to minimize the damage he does until we can get to the point where he decides that this is a lost cause and flees.
- We're on the enforcer's side of the battlefield, which is great - we can get to him relatively quickly, and it might take a bit for the leader to re-route. Looking at the situation... if we three-on-one the enforcer fast enough, then the leader gets the choice of either turning it into a three-on-one on him, or booking it. At that point, I'll bet he books it. If we give him time to intervene, though, and turn it into a three-on-two... well, then it gets ugly.
- The enforcer almost certainly has some sort of defensive trick. He's fighting without a shield, and stripped to the waist, as a bandit. If he didn't have some way to make his orthstirr work defensively, he'd be dead by now. Even so, it's not likely to be as good as what you can pull if you actually have a shield and armor.

Eh, I can see this being viable, but at the same time the leader is pretty close to the bandits. I wouldn't want to leave ourselves open to a counterattack from him if we go after the bowmen.

Still I think saving Jordan is the best choice right now. Hopefully Joarr doesn't get killed.

I'd rather have Aki get help. Having his raven flying about would leave it open to attacks from the bowmen, and I'd rather we get aid, as if there are more bandits, I highly doubt we could actually do anything. Not to mention that Aki is more a liability here than he is an asset, considering how he doesn't have any idea hoe to fight. I don't even think there are more bandits anyway, as they'd probably be trying to help take down Halfdan/Jordan, or going after his wife and daughters (which would be an easier way to enrage Halfdan, I imagine).

We can have both Abjorn and Halla try to defeat the Enforcer.
Or have either Abjorn OR Halla protect Jordan, while the other goes help Halfdan.

I'd rather Aki went after more help.
Letting him stay with us isn't really beneficial, unless his raven can drop big rocks or poop on the enemies.

His raven can fly high and flee if there is a sign of the bowmen aiming at it.
It is better to send our owl to get help. Steinarr knows Hallas owl and will instantly that his help is needed in some form of emergency.
Who knows Akis raven and would hurry to help?
edit: and Aki has been pointed out to slow us down, sending him running to get help would be slower than an owl flies.

Fair enough, I imagine a raven has decent eyesight. Still, I think Aki could help more by getting aid rather than staying here, since he's pretty much useless in a fight, and I don't like our current chances. I'd rather he do that then our fylgja travels somewhere unsupervised, not to mention that he could actually explain the situation.

@Imperial Fister Is there a limit to how far our fylgja can travel?

The two aren't mutually exclusive. We can have our own go with Aki's raven, and Aki can follow his raven. Then he can meet Steinarr (or whoever) partway and explain.

I kind of want to use the knee-groin trick on someone in this fight, I'll admit. I also kind of want to murder a bandit with thievesbane.

Abjorn is better in combat in general than we are, and also better armored. He *should* be able to last a few rounds against the enforcer by himself.

The enforcer is closer to us than Halfdan's scrum is. If we send someone to that, the leader will have notably more time to intervene than if we just have both of us fall on the enforcer.

Aki is blind, if his raven is leaving, so is he. He may only be personally going far enough to hole up somewhere, but he sure isn't gonna stay and fight blind.

That said, I basically agree with the consensus. We should send Aki for help while we and Abjorn save the son and worry about things from there. I will say that it doesn't seem like Inertia-Arresting-Throw can trap a whole person, but trapping the Enforcer's weapon is still an immense advantage and we should do it, then pull our own weapon.

I don't think sending our fylgja is a problem as long as we do it before we enter the fight, just because nobody realizes we're here yet and they sure aren't gonna attack things they don't see.

Keep in mind Halfdan's other son is fighting two bandits in the roof. We may want to kill the Enforcer, then help him before helping Halfdan.
We'll keep an eye on that, but for the moment it looks like he's not havign too much trouble with them. He hasn't taken any hits, anyway. Mostly his issue is that he has to keep paying attention to them, so he cant' afford to go help his brother.

Anyway, the linchpin at that point is the leader. If the leader books it, the bow-bandits aren't going to stay behind. If he doesn't... we'll almost certainly want to free up Halfdan ASAP in order to have someone capable of dealing with him.

Quick Reminder that the Inertia-Cancel requires one hand to cast and presumbly hold. Which means we have to give up the shield or ax to use. I say keep the shield for our own protection and let Jordan and Abjorn go ham on the enforcer. Afterwards have Jordan help his dad while we go take care of the archers. Abjorn can go either way depending.

We should be able to do it then pull our axe out in that order. I can't imagine we carry it in our hands at all times, it's probably on our belt to start with. That probably requires some action to draw it, but should be doable. Once we have both a shield and axe out, we then can't use the trick again without dropping one, but we should be able to use it once as a fight opener before drawing the axe.

So, I'm thinking this in terms of plan:

[X] Plan Save Jordan
-[X] Tap frami, virthing, and saemd (+21 Orthstirr)
-[X] Add 12 orthstirr to combat dice pool (-12 Orthstirr)
-[X] 6d Attack
-[X] 9d Defense
-[X] 5d Intercept
-[X] Invest 2 Orthstirr in Reinforce-Shield Trick, use 1 for Hone Trick defensively the first time either we or Abjorn are attacked, use one each for Hone Trick and Power Chop on the same attack to make a real hit on the Enforcer, save the rest of our orthstirr for now (-3 Orthstirr, -5 if we use the big attack).
-[X] Tactics Write in
--[X] First send Aki away to get help, along with our own fylgja.
--[X] Do not immediately draw our axe, approach the enforcer with Abjorn, telling him to hit the guy as hard as he can when we make an opening, then use Inertia-Arresting Throw (-6 Orthstirr) on the Enforcer's weapon, using Knee-Groin Trick at the same time as that (-1 Orthstirr) then draw our axe and help Abjorn kill the guy.
--[X] Wait to use our big attack (the one with Hone Attack and Power Chop) until it's clear whether this guy can weather Abjorn's offense (we do it if he looks like he'll survive, we let Abjorn have the kill and conserve our resources if he can't)

High dice pool isn't always super useful one on one, when dealing with a group, however, it very much is. For Reinforce-Shield it's a tricky balancing act as any shield breaker ditches all of it, but only that, so 2 seems right to me. In terms of offense here, I honestly have a fair bit of faith in Abjorn to kill this dude once we disarm him, but adding some insurance to that seems correct.

Edit: Added Knee-Groin Trick at the same time we use Inertia-Assisting Throw, as that seems correct.

Hmm I'm not sure it makes that much sense to put 10 dice in Defense instead of attack and Intercept with the plan as it stands, since we hope to disable the weapon?

Archers. I'm thinking about the archers. Intercept is for defending others, but defending against ranged attacks is still Defense. Still, thinking about it, I dropped Defense by 1 and increased attack likewise, 9 is probably enough Defense...I hope, anyway.

Honestly, I think 7 defense would work. There are only 2 bandits with bows, and if they were to stop shooting at us, they'd leave themselves open to Joarr. The smart decision would be for only a single bowmen to engage us, and I feel like 7 defense would be enough to deal with a single bandit since we have Reinforce-Shield on top of that.

[X] Plan Save Jordan, but a little Bloodthirstier

Given the need to snowball our successes, I'm not as much a fan of holding back. Rather try to overwhelm and join up on the next target quickly.

I forget, can we do insults/combat poetry? Can we drain their orthstirr by pointing out they're cowardly bandits going after kids?
