I'm thinking the training over the fishing personally (at least, assuming he needs it), but at least one action with him seems correct, yes. Or with Randi, given that she's the one who actually gave us the hamingja in the first place. Or both (one action each) if visiting Asvir to see the seeress isn't available yet.
Trying to switch plan to something completely new with only 40 minutes left to vote doesn't seem likely to work. Even if I switched, most people don't have time to.
I also don't agree with either prioritizing a trick over getting our Hugr up, or going fishing with Stigr over getting a story from Randi given that she's the one who actually gave us a point of hamingja. I'm definitely up for focusing a tad on our luckier associates going forward, but changing the plan at this stage doesn't seem workable and this specific one doesn't seem like the best way to do that.
Visiting Asvir has been an option for a while now. Visiting Asvir would compose more updates than a normal visit to another farmstead would, as you could do some shopping as well as talking/other things.
Your plan has two actions with Stigr and none with Randi...hanging out with Stigr has never given us hamingja while listening to Randi's story did. So my thought is that listening to more stories might be more effective at increasing hamingja than just hanging out with our lucky friend. Not that we shouldn't do both, but if the goal is to increase hamingja, ignoring the person who's actually given us some temporarily seems less than ideal.

Right, I meant whether next turn was a new season and thus our 'visit slot' had refreshed. Which it looks like it is and it will have. I thought that was the case, but was making sure.
I mean we haven't actually done a dedicated social with Stigr unlike with Randi. So we can't say he wouldn't give us some Hamingja. All our interactions with him has been as a group after all.
I dont mind if this wins, but still kinda sad about the sole dice for training a new defensive trick.

My reasoning is that, better get that business skill sooner than later, so we can use it earlier, and get something usefull out of the womanly duties. Jerasmus will be here for a long time, after all.
As for the training... i do understand the need for the rise of Hugr, but with two dice, we might get a trick for both.
The rest of the other plans are fine imo.

True enough. I'm not against giving it a try, just noting that ignoring her on the list of 'people we should hang out with for hamingja' is probably incorrect.
Tricks need 9 successes. I'm pretty sure two dice will not get split between two different tricks in a case like this. You could specifically split them, but I actually don't think we need more than one mundane defensive trick right now given that we have a magical one already.

i know, but starting both is still a good thing, if we manage. or get more progress if only starting one of them.
And its always good to have more options.
I'm thinking of doing away with seasonal actions for now, until you get your own farmstead/other. In that case you'd get an additional personal action.
If you want to get multiple tricks in a single turn, you need to clearly specify that a set of dice are for one trick while these other dice are for another trick (no limit to maximum number of tricks allowed to learn in a turn)
I do think that you need more offensive capabilities. Shatter-Wrist is good, but it's not much of a damage-dealer. Hone's also great, but it also isn't all that much of a damage dealer, when it comes down to fighting at adult levels.

Noted. We'll likely need to do that mundanely since it sounds like Standstill's 'direct damage' won't work through armor? Or am I overestimating how difficult touching someone's bare skin over their heart would be?

Standstill is great for utility and defensive purposes, not so much for damage-dealing attacks. You'll want something more elemental for a 'damaging hugareida'.

Hmm wonder if some kind of passion related huga would mean fire powers or not. Since our family does have easier fire related powers from Hallr influence.
Like thinking it through our brother probably got a wind based spell from his love of boats and some event in that line of work.

Hm. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, doesn't Halla actually have a harder time gaining a muna? From her chat with Aki when we had our first real talk with him, he mentioned that Halla isn't easily affected by things (I don't actually recall if this is exactly what he said, but I'm pretty sure it was something along this vein) which is why she got no muna from her first kill despite it being a pretty common one.

Yeah, that's the vibe I got. We're not bothered by killing people, so it's not a big deal when we do it, and things need to be a big deal to get you muna. We need an important battle we really care about or (more likely) something non-combat related to gain muna.

"Dad, what sort of defensive tricks do you know?" You ask one late afternoon, after your training had finished for the day.
He hums, running a hand across his chin and jaw. "I think a good trick to start you out with would be the 'Reinforce-Shield Trick'."
'A good choice,' Blackhand comments as Steinarr hefts his shield. 'Despite the name, armor falls under its aegis.'
"Essentially, Reinforce-Shield is done by 'painting' your orthstirr across the shield in layers. Each layer 'painted on' lets you freely defend against any single attack. It also," he grins, "well, let me just show you."
Crimson orthstirr paints his shield and he sets up to defend. Shrugging, you take a swing at him.
Your axe crashes through the orthstirr, yes, but it also bounces off from the impact
Left off-balance from the bounce as you are, you are completely unable to defend against Steinarr's retaliatory swing.
"Now," Steinarr says, pulling Crowfeeder away from your stomach, "if a trick hits it, it'll strip all the layers away. But the trick will also be stopped in its tracks, so it's a bit of a trade off. Any questions?"
You shake your head 'no' and start practicing.

The year, by the reckoning of the followers of Christ, is 8972 AD and you, Halla Steinarsdottir, have just turned fourteen.
'Do you do this every year?' Asks the voice of your grandfather and namesake, Hallr Blackhand.
"Shut up," you growl, an embarrassed flush heating your face. You stretch as you rise to your feet, yawning in the light of the morning sun.
You blink, wiping sleep from your eyes just in time to see your brother, Eric Steinarsson, start to load supplies into a pack. You take a deep breath and crush the growing pit of sadness before it has a chance to grow any further.
Soon, Eric will be making the long trek to Jurgdby. Soon, Eric wouldn't be around anymore and you'd have to settle with pestering Asva to pass the time. (Eric's Silver-Tongue: 4, 6, 3, 6, 4, 5, 1, 5, 1) 9 Successes. Goddamn, Eric.
You scowl, clenching your jaw hard.
...And soon Eric would be marrying Stigrun and taking her with him as he travels to learn shipbuilding from the Jurgdby Shipwright.
You're not jealous.
'Yes you are.'
You are not jealous.
Sure, you'd like to go with your brother and sure, maybe you'd rather Stigrun didn't. But that doesn't mean that you're jealous. How could you be jealous of some random woman you barely know? The very thought is absurd and frankly disingenuous!
'Spending time around that mendicant is doing wonders for your vocabulary,' Blackhand observes as the man in question, Jerasmus the Mendicant, strolls out the door with a bit of pep in his step and a cheery whistle ringing from his lips. You can tell by the tune he whistles that he's heading to the fields. 'He still unnerves me. How can a man like that be content with life as a thrall of all things?'
"A man like what?" You ask for the umpteenth time as you grab your weapons from beside your bed. Blackhand grumbles, still unable to put it to words. He'd tried to plenty of times, but not once had he been able to tell you what it is that has him so unnerved.
After checking over Thievesbane and your shield, a thought occurs to you. Since Eric's leaving soon, why not get him to spar with you before he goes?
That'll be a nice way to remember him!
Besides, he's grown a lot since you last saw him fight, and not just physically!. The pair of shields on his back and hand, the sax on his belt, and the shortened spear in hand serve as more than enough evidence of that. He took the lessons learned from the thief to heart and then some.
It'll be good to get a feel for fighting adults, given that Eric *is* eighteen.
'Thief?' Oh, yeah, that's right. Blackhand wasn't awake for that one.
"I, uh, I killed a thief about a..." you frown, trying to figure out the timeframe, "at most it was a year before you woke, at least it was a couple months."
'Thieves deserve nothing more than an axe to the face and an honorless death. Good job.'
You grin, pride shooting through your spine.
"Thanks, Hallr."
'Always, Halla.'
With that done with, you turn to Eric and call his attention to your weapons.
"Eric! Spar with me!" You demand like the petulant child that you are. You wave your weapons in the air.
He sighs, knowing full well that you'll out-stubborn him on this one. "Fine, just let me finish packing Stigrun's bride-price and I'll be right out."
In the mean-time, why don't you go talk to Jerasmus?
'Because I don't like it?'
You ignore the voice in your head and carry on with your plans.
0~0~0 Trying to learn more about Jerasmus and his people (Hugr (Silver-Tongue): 4, 2, 3, 1) Neutral Outcome, 1 Success
You find Jerasmus whistling as he works in the fields. He's wearing his brown smock and his hair is, somehow, as neatly trimmed as the day you met him. Gabriel, who is working nearby, scowls as he sees you approaching.
"Ah!" He somehow knows that you're there without looking up from his work. "A very fine morning to you, Young Lady." You can hear the capitalization of 'Y' and 'L' in his words.
"'Young Lady'?" You ask as you lean on a fencepost, head quirked to the side. There had been an uptick in local wildlife, so Jerasmus and Steinarr had built a small fence to keep them away from the crops.
"A term of respect used in many lands, often to refer to the daughters of the local dignified populace." Jerasmus explains with a smile as broad as his stomach is jolly. He feigns a shiver as he stands upright. "My, is this what summer is like in your lands?"
"Early summer, yeah."
"Fascinating!" He declares as he looks to the clouds lightly scattered across the sky. "I wonder why it differs so much from the south. Could it be an angel? Or perhaps it's an after-effect of some manner of ritual?"
"Could also be one of the Gods."
"It very well could be!" He nods, considering the possibilities. "It could also have something to do with wind... though that would require learning where the wind comes from. Speaking of your gods, what do you know of them?"
You blink and shrug. "Um, not all that much, I guess. Randi knows more than me."
"No matter how little you may know, it is still far more than myself! Please," Jerasmus bows low, arm sweeping wide, "educate this lowly mendicant."
As you launch into a discussion with the wanderer, you can't help but feel like he got far more from you than you got from him.

You stand in a small field, Eric on the other side with training weapons in hand. You yourself also have your training equipment, meaning that you're not wielding Thievesbane.
Eric looks ready for combat. If you had to make a guess, he's probably going to be rather cautious in this starting bout. He's about as strong physically as you are, if not a little bit stronger, though you know that he's got a few cards up his sleeve. You've spied him practicing with what you now know is a hugareida, probably something wind-based.
He has a short spear, a sax on his belt, and a pair of shields. Having that many shields will probably slow him down a fair bit, but it might pay off well for him.
You have 4/4 Endurance.
Your shield can take 4 more hits. You have no back-up shields.
You have 4 orthstirr held in reserve and you have not tapped frami, virthing, or saemd.
You can put 0 more points of orthstirr into your hamr and 0 more into your hugr.

AN: The fight ends when you drop to half-health rounding down. This is, after all, a spar. You're not trying to kill or maim here.
25-minute moratorium.
Halla and Blackhand's conversations won't be heard by anyone else, unless they can read minds or something.
Well, that training roll was, uh, mixed. Good on the physical stuff...not so much on the mental. Hmm.
For the combat, um, maybe take advantage of our Standstill trick to disarm Eric? We know he favors spears over the seax and his own hugareida is gonna be expensive enough he can't use it exclusively. Definitely tap at least one of our options for that...probably two, though not three. We should probably up our combat dice pool by 4 or so (I'd go 1 in Chop, 3 in Defense), and use Hone on our axe...
That's all I've got really, I'm not sure what actual tactics work best here other than the disarm.
Not really, he has a Hugr of at least 5 (that's what it was at 16), and that means he'd get to that dice pool with Silver-Tongue 2, if his Hugr has gone up to 6, he's only need a 1. So he's got the skill and he's better than us, but not necessarily by a whole lot.
So how does Hone work mechanically in a fight? Does it just make our attacks 2d instead of 1d at a cost of 1 orthstirr per attack? Can it also be used on defenses?
So how does Hone work mechanically in a fight? Does it just make our attacks 2d instead of 1d at a cost of 1 orthstirr per attack? Can it also be used on defenses?
Essentially, when you, say, dedicate 3 dice to attack, you can specify and say however many of the attacks are affected by Hone, up to the amount of orthstirr available in reserve. This also works for defense.
