The missing element is almost certainly permanent physical improvement, to my mind. We have to power everything with orthstirr. The good news is orthstirr is relatively easy to get.

All good points, I did make that post to see what others thought about the system but if the bad points aren't as bad as I think then i must be overrating some things because the QM stated generic Chinese cultivation would view the Norse way as extremely wasteful, meaning we are either missing a critical aspect or training stuff that is weak in comparison to everyone else. I assume our tricks and Fylgja were the weak things we are training and maybe shapeshifting sucks compared to other system level 7 unlocks or Hugr and Hamr fail to keep with other systems in the long run. we could also be missing something like a domain or whatever, IDK are domains common in Xinaxia?

I think he meant that it's energy-inefficient by their standards. We do not actually keep or cycle orthstirr to permanently improve our abilities, instead having to regularly burn it on just functioning at the level we're used to. We're a gas-guzzler to their efficient hybrid.

Hmm based on what we know 6th decade is above us y quite a bit and our 11 hamr+hugr. so a decade is probably worth more than +1 Hamr and Hugr maybe thats why its wasteful? each stage is less power than it should be?

Norse cultivation doesn't have levels, just stats. And we actually don't know what stats you get per level in Christian cultivation, but I doubt it's as simple as one point per decade or anything like that (or even two or three points per decade). That honestly wouldn't make sense given that Gabriel had at least Soma 5-6 at the end of the Second Decade.

Norse cultivation doesn't have stages, which is probably part of the problem. Developing them might well be a route to improvement.

That seems possible, yeah, though it'd likely make things more restrictive. I personally hope we don't have to do that to achieve immortality and similar things, but I wouldn't be surprised if we do have to.

Now we see what our prize is for claiming a Victory By Yield.

Probably won't be as great as a Victory By Killing, but it shouldn't be small either.

I haven't been around for a while, so I'm not sure if someone in the thread already covered this, but I don't think orthstirr achieving something like the Christian's Decades or a Cultivator's Realms is out of the question. Like, Imperial said this:

Can orthstirr be refined like qi can? Can you ascend to higher states of being using it?

The Norse simply don't know and, frankly, the vast majority of them don't care.

Of course, that may change should you, over the generations, make discoveries and have revelations.

I suspect that since the Norse only refined the stabby stabby parts of their cultivation, they've neglected what else it can do. I don't think Fervor is inherently better, more like the Christian's just make better use of it. I genuinely think achieving something like Realms is possible with orthstirr, if very hard. I'm honestly surprised that no Norseman has attempted to recreate a Christian's Decades after seeing their power...

Even then, orthstirr does have its advantages. Like how it's way easier to become stronger with it. From what I can tell, Knights need a lot of time and investment to actually become strong, whereas Steinarr can kill someone that presumably has decades, if not centuries of experience on him.

I have a feeling about the loot being carted out, either they will be honest and we get it all or they will lie and keep a bunch, we know we got scammed and a fight breaks out no middle ground.

yeah thats why i said its a feeling likely means nothing and he will only lie if he goes in hard on the lie, no skimming off the top BS

Even disregarding how fast or slow Knights cultivate, 350 years likely means a lot of time to trains skills, pick up traits and gain their Hugareida equivalent.
In fact, Cultivation systems with realms and enhanced lifespans tend to have bottlenecks, which means that their training dice would have to be going to areas other that cultivation itself.
This is likely why they have more dice compared to Norse cultivators.

Sure, to some degree, but I suspect high level skills are still gated behind their Cultivation. I definitely think level of cultivation imposes a stat cap they can't go beyond in any specific trait. I also suspect that we're not alone in having a capacity equivalent making using multiple Hugareida-equivalents at once seriously logistically difficult.

In fact, Cultivation systems with realms and enhanced lifespans tend to have bottlenecks, which means that their training dice would have to be going to areas other that cultivation itself.

I would guess that bottlenecks need, among other things, lots of training dice thrown at them, though we don't know how those work well enough to say for sure.

This is likely why they have more dice compared to Norse cultivators.

I don't think so, actually. I mean, the Squire here was younger than us and he still had more dice...assuming he actually was younger than us, anyway. How old the squires are now seems an interesting question, actually...

Usually more than just dice, the Christian Hamingja equivalent will play a role since talent always does in Xianxia, and at some point you jsut wont ever pass it if you stat is too low or you will pass it after way too long.

Yeah, that's what makes me go "Wait, what?" He was throwing gigantic dice pools apparently, and he was younger than us. The difference shouldn't be that great unless the Christian style still grows fast early on.

Summer 5/Raid 1/Attacking the Manor Final
Abjorn has his arm wrapped around you as you watch the mortals bring out your treasure by the cartful. Folkmarr and the Knight discussed the actual weight of the ransom — the Knight's name is Hauke de something or another, his name confuses you on more than one level. Apparently, 'Blackstone' isn't actually Gabriel's kenning, if this 'surname' concept is accurate.

But regardless, Folkmarr and Hauke came to terms on the exact numbers and Hauke signaled his thralls to bring it all out. Unfortunately, the manor had more loot than you could bring on the *Treadfast*, so you had to make some concessions. Quality over quantity, as it were.

So here you are, in your husband's arms as you watch your wealth grow before your very eyes.

After the coinage and the like were brought out, the good stuff was next.

Folkmarr strides forward — his wounds cleaned and his mane good as new — and unveils the tarp covering the final, most important cart.

Inside lies a plethora of magical items. Details were, unfortunately, unable to be provided for them all, but you get the broad gist of things.

Folkmarr steps away, spreading his arms as wide as the smile on his face. "Come, friends, and pick your shares."

Which one do you pick?
[ ] A 'book' bound in soft leather, a red ribbon serving as a place-marker
-(Supposedly, this is something called a 'bible', whatever that means)
[ ] A small wooden box, contained within is a single tooth resting upon a soft, red pillow
-(This is the tooth of somebody called 'Saint Julius the Veteran'.)
[ ] A set of bejeweled, golden beads, about 150 in total.
-(This is a rosary! Supposedly it helps with Christian cultivation?)
[ ] A tiny suit of armor
-(This is apparently 'training armor'? For Pages?)
[ ] One of a dozen different swords
-(Eh, you'll just grab a random sword and get going)
[ ] A spiked hammer on a stick? What?
-(It's... some kind of polearm? A hammer as a weapon? What?)
[ ] One of several dozen sets of small wheels that look to be mounted on the back of a shoe
-(These are something called 'spurs'. These ones specifically are said to aid in movement?)
[ ] A long iron nail with odd letters covering it
-(This, apparently, significantly damages Christian Cultivation. Somehow.)
[ ] A vial of blessed blood
-(This is said to heal injuries or something)
[ ] A small bundle of blessed bread
-(This is said to aid in cultivation)

AN: Hunting Parties, by the way, contain Errants, which are Christian Cultivators that don't fall into the Clerical, Chivalric, or Nobiliary categories.

25-minute moratorium.

Haha. Holy shit. This really was the Right Choice to make.

Even the Feat agrees. "You attacked a Knight's Manor and got the loot and only one of you died for good, holy shit, have 5 Orthstirr a year and 63 right now".

I think Folkmarr should be content from this, as should the rest of the Felag. I think each of us made 80 Orthstirr on this expedition? And Folkmarr as the Jarl and the leader will probably get even more once we get back because he showed excellent leadership by taking a small Felag out and coming back with a ship full of loot and only one perma-dead, especially when it involves clashing with a Knight.

Sure, it was hypothetically possible to get more. But it would have been costly.

What do we want to pick from the loot? I'm thinking the bible could help us understand the Christians cultivators a bit more. The sword and hammer are just another weapon in our arsenal but the hammer could help us against Knights and squires in the future. We don't really need a rosery or training armor unless we're trying to study their cultivation a bit more or giving them to Gabriel to better equip him. The spurs are helpful in general to live up to our kenning. The blood could be used to heal the downed guy. The bread I'm not sure it'll work with our cultivation system. Not sure what we're going to do with the nail or the tooth but it's a project to study if we're so inclined.

Here's hoping we got enough heat that we get another combat encounter anyway, with all six of us getting a boost like that we might be able to take out a knight, and a regular Hunting Party is probably a little easier to deal with.
