So it's a young (or at least young by their standards) nature spirit I guess?

Seems likely, yeah. That's one reason I think the shared mystery might be a good call. Distractibility seems likely...if we can get them off the subject of us being suspicious and onto the mystery of what weird magic is at play, that seems useful.

It also positions us as their ally in figuring out what's up, which might also be good

Let you see through illusions when you look through them. Weirdly, we do not need one to see the herd, though we can't see who we're talking to and other people do need it to see both them and the herd.
Weirdly, I think the best example of what a Hag Stone can do is from Coraline. Since she ended up using it to find those children's souls the Other Mother trapped away.

[X] "I didn't bring the hag stone for the herd, I had no idea they belonged to a vittra or that they were invisible. I don't even know why I can see them when nobody else can. I brought the stone to try and find their owner since I saw only the cattle themselves. Maybe something weird is going on with either my magic or yours? I can't see you, but can see the herd."

Probably the kid is watching the cattle while the adults have something better to do.

Incidentally, this means that we're in kind of a Beowulf and Grendel situation; if this turns into a fight and we win, I suspect we'll have at least two pissed off and significantly stronger nature spirits calling on us to complain.

This is probably accurate, yeah. If we make sure he survives we can maybe talk the parents out of vengeance, but that's a big 'if' when fighting a powerful invisible opponent, and a heck of a maybe. Let's try and avoid the whole situation, shall we?

We can see it because of Sundersight right? I think we risk nid by saying we have no idea.

No, by our understanding, Sundersight has to be activated and shouldn't reveal the cattle but not the herder themself (if it even revealed either...it's not the 'see through illusions' variety of seersight).

It might be related to our Sundersight (and we do mention it maybe being our magic in my plan) but if so it's acting in a deeply weird way it never has before. Saying we're not sure what's going on is accurate.

I think the mystery isn't too important as opposed to calming down a mythical creature that's probably a child.

Maybe say that we could see the herd without the stone and just happened to have the hag stone at hand. If he wants to blame anyone, blame the Norns for the happenstance. :V

Not what i was expecting, when i read i first trought he would have been a Giant of some kind.

The spirit reminds me of Drifa (~14 yr old). Or rather what Drifa would be like if she was a Vittra.

"I'll accept your words for what they are, but don't think that clears your name!" The voice thunders again. "That still doesn't explain why you felt the need to bring a hagstone! After all, a vittra's herd is always invisible. To bring a hagstone is a sure sign you mean trouble!"
interesting, kinda strange, but interesting....
The hag stone is bad omen, i guess is a cultural thing for them, what with being invisible otherwise.
Guess its a wash, but at least it was an interesting one.
Hm... be polite, be ready to depart, perhaps offer help if needed, like a good neighbor?

Was wondering if it might be worth it to upgrade the remaining farm tools to wondrous quality and rune them up. Mostly as a completion thing but also as a bit of a flex. Make people say, "Not only is Halla Sunshine a great warrior, but she uses her great smithing skills to be a good farmer as well," or something like that. It's a sign of prestige and ability, might lead to some commissions coming her way, up the efficiency for the farm. Might be worth bringing up to Sten as well if he hasn't done it himself yet. If he dislikes farming then doing it quickly and efficiently would be hopefully less frustrating for him.

Also some Yule gift ideas. Some wondrous rune tools for Eric, maybe whale bone ash to make his boats even better. Collab with Sten on some good armor for Eric, seems like he could use it.

This would involve spending an entire action for +6 Work Dice and whatever we get from the Runes. If you can think of some good Runes, it might be worth it, but I don't think it is in and of itself without that. Not right now when we have some action crunch issues anyway.

We can bring it up, but I highly doubt he's just failed to do that. He definitely has Wondrous tools in every area of farming he cares to put effort into making tools for. We could try gifting him some but, well, see below about action constraints.

The last time we tried giving Eric cool stuff we smithed, he turned us down. We could try again in theory, and armor would be the way to go, but this next turn's actions are constrained if we're to do the divination on who was behind Steinarr's death and actually get the tournament idea done by the end of Summer. Even without that constraint, it'd be pretty rough.

btw what are our research plans for next turn? the spirits being empty seems a lead thats worth following up on, as well as Bjorney's last eyetalk lesson, and the needlebinding trick. but that still leaves us 3 research dice free to use

also, can we try ask Solrun about Fylgja next turn?

The needlebinding thing sounds like a confirmed Trick, so it's no longer research, just xp to get the Trick. The other two are probably happening though, yeah. Other than those we want to try inverting Ignition and see what we get, and someone had an interesting idea for the burl/bridge thing, so we should probably do that. That leaves a couple of slots open, though we do have a bit more Alloy checking we could do if nobody comes up with anything more pressing

also, can we try ask Solrun about Fylgja next turn?

Yeah, that's definitely on the 'ask a seeress' list.

I wonder if - Pending results of attempting to Invert Ignition - we can alloy an Inverted Hugareida and whether the result is materially different.

Like, if we could get like, Chillwind or Snow or Ice by combining Inverted Campfire/Ignition + Clearwater/Gale, we could potentially get access to ice-based attacks, which would be a good extension of our Elemental types.

I also wonder if Inverted Standstill would let us use IAT as an accelerant, and if Contested Movement even works when we try to Invert a Hugareida.
