I figure this is less of a "know thy enemy" option and more of an opportunity to steal some tricks from foreign cultivators. Both of these cultures are pretty tempting. The Frisian's spent a great deal of time fighting off Norse raiders. Moreover, they managed to stay pretty independent from feudal rule for centuries after being "conquered" by the HRE. The Bulgars, on the other hand, were the closest thing the Byzantines had to an arch nemesis during this period. Both should have some interesting tricks.

I'd argue for the Bulgarian Treatise on the grounds that we are probably going to join the Varangian Guard in our next life and that sounds very useful for fighting them

I'm a simple man, I see a new Trick that might be a weird mechanic that's a useful edge counter, and I vote for it.

[x] Unlock Fortify as a Vague Trick

Then above arguments about possible descendants serving in the Varangian Guard convinced me completely we want to know more about bulgarians.....now I want milina.

Could we use the stone building thing for our cultivation?
Also could someone explain the Frisian and Bulgar thing?

Fortify is the Sharpen equivalent to Reinforce (1 Orthstirr per 2 dice on defense), I suspect it's more generally useful than it is an edge counter (though it probably has some sort of limitation). Which is all the more reason to grab it, I think, but just FYI.

We can probably improve our house quality in our Soulscape, yeah.

I kinda want to have a battle royale with all of the grandchildren of Hallr (who inherited part of him).
Wonder what Songbird got from his Blackhand.
