Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

According to my Worm Fandom Knowledge, Acks (Hope comes to Brockton bay, amongst others) also does adult oriented fanfiction on a different site under a different handle. Taylor/Danny is apparently a pairing in some(?) of these.

Hence I was joking about him apparently being in story here.

  • Boston. Stick around with Armsmaster, Dauntless, Gallant, and New Wave. Sure, it's stable, but that just means it should be easier to uproot the local villains.
Two routes here:
-Stay hero, inevitably try to clean up Accord or breach his territory because Danny has impulse control issues. End in a big clash against Accord as his jimmies are thoroughly rustled..
-Realize that Accord is exactly what Danny was looking for(the city sucks, the world sucks, we're gonna burn all the fugly parts and build on the ashes, meanwhile here have a whole team of perfectly coordinated dudes, praise Order!), and decides to work with him. Coil may surface to work with/manipulate Accord and it becomes a three way between Accord, Coil and the PRT for dominance.

Delicacy will be a MAJOR element here, this is a nice city, and collateral damage is unacceptable compared to information abilities and precision. Recursion Field would be highly valuable. Solar Wrath would not.

  • Philadelphia. Follow Miss Militia and Vista. Work with Chevalier and deal with the upsurge in "Case 53s". You just hope no one confuses Samantha for one.

The city of love. More classic magical girl adventures, and a lot of the Simurgh victims are heading here, where we literally beat some sense back into them, and possibly awakens their magic to restore them(?). We may get to meet a grateful mutant whose children we saved, and unlock a sidequest for a reunion.

Nice thing about 'Case 53s' is they lean towards the higher end of the durability spectrum, so we may see our bigger spells come to use. This set up however, is not Coil's preferred game.
  • Chicago. Follow Assault and Clockblocker. You'll spend most of your time dealing with regular gang violence. Solar Wrath might not be the best spell here. :(

Gangs are WIDE instead of tall, less capes(?), more organized crime. Privateers would be learning some harsh lessons in how hard it is to actually end crime. Dakka does not solve institutional problems without destroying everything.
This is also kind of the natural place for Lisa and Coil to go to, as it plays neatly into their abilities.

I'm leaning Boston actually.

Didn't all the mutants in BB die by exhaustion/burning themselves out?
Yes.

Edit: Also note the timeline. "Case 53s" have been popping up in Philly for the last couple of months. Longer than Perfect Storm has been on Earth, in fact.

Hm. I think I'll go for Philadelphia. The problem of the PRT mistaking Sam shouldn't really be one if we follow what we did in BB and just go to them (maybe with Sam as a racoon) to mention us moving in/Sam looking like she does.
As has been mentioned by Silversun in Philadelphia we could divide the roles into the Privateers protecting civilians while Taylor focuses more on the direct fighting.

Not sure, but are we actually friends with anyone from New Wave? While Brandish being gone might help Amy's headspace, it might not as well. Id like to deactivate that timebomb if at all possible. This doesn't mean we have to move to Boston, but we should stay in touch.

So, just because it hasn't been mentioned here yet, Myriddin is in Chicago. And we are Calamity -Witch-. If nobody sees how that might be fun, I will cry.

Can't save/hug everyone, TB. And I don't think we had any sort of connection with New Wave, but I could be misremembering.

I totally agree. For all we know, he could the only one who'd recognize our 'magic' as, you know, 'magic'.

Just realized something: Depending on where we go, we might run into Noelle and the Travelers.
We do know in terms of canon chronology, it's before they would have arrived in Brockton Bay, which would put them in Boston. Pissing off Accord and all that. OTOH, Echidna's Parahuman clones do fit the C53 motif, so Philidelphia might have a Mother of Monsters problem, not a Cauldron/spate of dangers shards triggering problem.
But of course, canon's been long out the window, so they might not be in any of the three city choices.
Just some caffeine-deprived musings.

I want to poach Vista from the Wards/PRT/Protectorate if we can. Get our second mage?
I think the first part would be pretty hard, especially with MM taking up the role of her guardian.
The second part would require us to 1. scan Vista, which would make SW roll to see if she can become a mage, with iirc a 5% chance(though I might be misremebering this) and 2. somehow talk Vista into giving up her powers.
EDIT: There's also the problem of Vista being somewhat watched, since it'll be MM taking care of her. If she either goes missing, stops using her powers alltogether or gets identified as our second mage, using new powers, that'd very likely cause an investigation and the last would make it quite clear that we either mess with powers or make tools that imitate several powers at once.

I honestly couldn't remember if that was a thing or not.
How do you figure pulling that off?
Not likely, you'd have to convince Miss Militia first, since she's now Vista's guardian, and while MM is very friendly, she is also very loyal to the U.S.

... Yeah, I know. :(

May be easier than you'd think. We're a cape that managed to keep our powers when Ziz did her thing, even if they were reduced while hers shut down. Which powers getting shut down killed the majority of her team so she may not be as attached to them and would accept an alternative if it was available.

Just a rather low chance like you said.

Parahumans can use magic if they have a Linker Core. They just can't use Devices (not without abandoning their shard powers, at least).
It's a little more complicated than that. Your link to PS blocks telepathic powers like Danny's, and its link to you will protect your GB. If you used telepathy on one of the Privateers, you would disrupt Danny's power's effect. But the connection between a cape and a shard? Inviolable except by bonding to a Device.
So, while we could teach Vista magic if she has a Linker Core, I doubt we'd see any actually useful results any time soon, given that she wouldn't have a Device to help her get into the subject. So it's either not make any meaningful progress for quite a long while(that it'd likely be better to just go for someone else from our allies) or burn out her powers.

I'm mostly leaning towards Philly bc

1. Poor Vista. I just want to see her be happy again.

2. Mom Militia. Recently read Tyrant of the Bay, by Arafell, and its portrayal of mom Hannah was super endearing.

Basically I feel like even though Philly might be another combat oriented meatgrinder, it'll still have the largest potential for positive emotional moments. Vista's current situation is super shitty.

Going to Boston gives us (and the Privateers) the best opportunity to be productive heroes, instead of counter-active heroes. We can fight people anywhere, but:
1) Armsmaster is one of the top tinkers in the world, known to take inspiration in powers of others that he can study, and one who has already developed psionic shielding in canon. Being able to consult him, and Danny also being there with his telepathic power should help him in developing anti-Simurgh tech.

2) Danny's power should synergy beautifully with Accord's.

Okay, I think I missed something somewhere along the line.

Why would Vista being turned Mage make her lose her Parahuman powers?

Just realized something: Depending on where we go, we might run into Noelle and the Travelers.
No Travelers, as @Silently Watches (likely) butterflied them away. In canon, they appeared in Madison in December 2009; while in here, Scion found Cauldron and did his last hurrah over the summer of '09 (or earlier?). So yeah, no reason for Ziz to pop them over, plus no vials to dump on them. Pity, I wanted to have a Calamity Witch v. Sundancer fight

I'm personally leaning Philly, as that will probably give us the Magical Girl Adventures I've dying to have.

No matter where we go though, the Privateers are going to cause problems for everyone. They were created in response to the specific situation in BB, one that is obviously no longer relevant. We will have to reinvent them no matter where we go, and I'm not sure Danny (or any of the others for that matter) will be open to much change given their anger over how life's fucked them over.

In Boston, I only see the Privateers causing problems. The Teeth are kept in check via Accord and Protectorate, groups of powerful, well-trained parahumans. The Teeth would have no qualms about escalating against a group of (relatively) normals. I foresee lots of blood (oh god, Butcher!Danny....). Accord's crimes are mostly white-collar, and values order. If he perceives Danny as a destabilizing influence, he will have no qualms about attempting an assassination (and the Protectorate wouldn't be able to do much because the Ambassadors are damn good). Blasto doesn't give a shit, only extracting protection money, selling drugs, or burglary to fund his tinkering.

We would be vastly outnumbered in Chicago, I don't really see the Privateers being relevant there without strong parahuman support to prevent us from just be whittled away by sheer numbers.

Maybe I'm thinking about it all off though. Where ever we go though, we'd have to change our Modus Operandi.

If going somewhere else is available, I feel like New York would be pretty interesting. SS would be drama but we'd get to hang out with super!Blaster Legend! (notice me senpai~) Plus the gangs there would be more similar to the ones in BB I think. Bloods/Crypts/whatever multinational gangs of peddlers and smugglers of anything illegal, with strong international ties. Hmm, Chicago might be similar actually, but this would be the big leagues. Probably tons of parahumans, both in leadership and subordinate roles.

Btw, where's Lung heading off to?

I believe it was Word of QM, way back.
