Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Just one question, did Battery die at some point and I just missed/forgot it, or was she forgotten?
You didn't read.
"He is. That doesn't mean we're all staying here. Even after… after we lost so many to the Simurgh, we're still one of the largest branches in the Northeast." She wasn't kidding about the number of casualties; the Brockton Bay Protectorate had lost five heroes in that fight. Kid Win and Velocity died when the Simurgh first unveiled her machine, Aegis when his powers were turned off and he could no longer fly, and Battery and Triumph sometime after that, probably when she turned all those people into monsters. Miss Militia takes a moment to collect herself before she continues, "Boston is a relatively quiet town from a parahuman perspective, and between Armsmaster, Dauntless, Gallant, and what's left of New Wave, that is more than enough reinforcement to deal with any villains who choose to stay. Not that many will; the main villain in Boston is a Thinker named Accord, and he probably does a better job of running other villains out of town than the Protectorate does.

As far as I remember you are correct so if we go to Boston we might be dealing with the S9 rather soon.
The S9 are all dead.

People are used to being able to vote right away and 24 hours for that sorta of thing is too much.
It might not work, and if not, we'll stop. But it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

"Yes, I should be happy that random people on the internet are content with just fantasizing in explicit detail about my torrid love affair with my own father!"

Goddamn shippers. They are the worst.
:lol:rofl:
For the first time, that your Barrier Jacket makes you look a couple of years older serves as a disadvantage
Missing word.
"Not much. I just got out of a custody meeting." You hum in obvious curiosity, and after a moment, she elaborates, "Vista's parents chose to head to Manchester. They didn't make it."

Oh. Oh, poor Vista. Most people chose one of three places to run: Dover, Manchester, or Boston. Unfortunately for everyone seeking refuge in Manchester, the stress was apparently enough that someone triggered while on the middle of the freeway. Worse, the power that cape received was one that let him or her sling out huge amounts of boiling tar. When a giant figure formed of hot pitch appeared in the middle of the road where people were already driving fifteen or twenty miles above the speed limit, the results were as tragic as they were predictable. The wrecks just kept piling up, killing several dozen people and injuring hundreds of others. The cape who started everything, labeled Tar-Baby by the media, had slipped away and could not be found.
Called it.
I. Fucking. Called. it.
I hate being right.
"That's terrible. But the rest of the Wards can help her, can't they? And you got custody of her, so that's someone else she can rely on."

"For now, yes. Legally, the courts still need to decide who receives custody of her civilian identity, but I have custody of her cape identity until we get settled in Philly."
Good. MM's just the right person for Vista, if anything Hannah'll probably get custody of Missy.
She wasn't kidding about the number of casualties; the Brockton Bay Protectorate had lost five heroes in that fight. Kid Win and Battery died when the Simurgh first unveiled her machine,
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Aegis when his powers were turned off and he could no longer fly,
I know someone called that.
Velocity and Triumph sometime after that, probably when she turned all those people into monsters.
Figures.
"I do," she admits without a moment's hesitation. "You, the Privateers. You want to have a positive impact on the world. You want to do something that matters. I congratulate you on that, but if you want to make a difference, I don't know that you can or should try doing it in Boston. Yes, there are still villains here, but things are stable, and most of the crimes being committed are nonviolent. Theft, embezzlement, blackmail. Crimes that should be stopped but not ones that can be blasted away. In Brockton Bay, it didn't matter; we were one step away from a gang war. In Boston, raw force will cause more problems than it solves.

"If you still want to stay, stay. I just thought you should know that there are other places you can go, places where you can find a friendly face and where I think you can do more good than you can here. And if you do decide to stay, you have my number. Feel free to call me if you ever run into any problems or just want someone to talk to."
Hm. If we want to develop the Privateers, then Boston is not the place to go.
[ ] Philadelphia. Follow Miss Militia and Vista. Work with Chevalier and deal with the upsurge in "Case 53s". You just hope no one confuses Samantha for one.
This puts Calamity Witch in the forefront of combat, with the Privateers doing non-combat support.
[ ] Chicago. Follow Assault and Clockblocker. You'll spend most of your time dealing with regular gang violence. Solar Wrath might not be the best spell here. :(
This is were the Privateers will be doing their vigilante/militia work the most, and Calamity Witch can focus on parahuman interdiction.
Working with 'Case-53s', more like shards triggering with no mental or physical safety limiters or there being a Portal to Cauldron's base, would fit Taylor's mentality of removing 'criminals'. If Taylor goes to Chicago, she'll have to face a very uncomfortable truth: You can't punch/blast away poverty and inequality.
As someone who wants to develop the Privateers to mean something in the eyes of the world, I think I will be voting Chicago. But, I can understand why'd people vote for Philadelphia. We'd even have an incentive to awaken the mages among the Privateers, either for combat/noncombat.

What's the point of putting in notes if no one reads them? Or the big, red words?
So you feel a sense of vindication when the mods put jackboots to their throats?
Or is that just me?
People are used to being able to vote right away and 24 hours for that sorta of thing is too much.
A number of other quests, Gromweld's Alchemical Quest most prominently, also do this moratorium on votes that have large, sweeping effects on the narritive. He did it for moving to a new city, and for choosing what level of bureaucracy they preferred working at. So it's only too much if people don't discuss.

Personally I think we should go to Philly for a number of reasons.

1. Mysterious surge in case 53s. Possibly linked to what ever the shit happened to cauldron and deserves investigation by one of the few people that can cross dimensions or actually figure out what was going on.
2. Sounds suspiciously like what the Simurgh did in the bay, may be able to find a counter for it.
3. Vista is going to become a robot. I myself do not want that to happen. As for reasons why Taylor wouldn't want that to happen is because Vista was becoming a friend to her and was one of her first contacts.

It might not work, and if not, we'll stop. But it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

May or may not true. Me, I voted right away as an ingrained habit since I skimmed past the bolded text above the options.

That's just rude and unnecessary. Are you trying to trigger me, or do you not realize how some people will take your tone here?

Most of the quests that I participated in that did something likes this only got a good hours worth of discussion over a 12 hour period. I don't have high hopes for this not being the case.

@Always Late

As someone from the outside (That has not directly invoked your full ire) you've been riding a knife's edge of being just a bit too combative/insulting/overbearing for the last few pages. You didn't seem this way when I first joined up with the story, are you okay?

If you ever find out who XxVoid_CowboyxX is when he isn't on the Internet, you're going to feed his computer to him piece by piece with great violence.
It's always Greg, not knowing when to stop with his shit.

Oh, indeed. I imagine that Tar-baby cape is mortified at what they caused.

and Battery and Triumph sometime after that, probably when she turned all those people into monsters.
Lots of named character fatalities. I see. I bet Assault is despondent about his wife dying.

Anyway, where do you want to move?
  • Boston. Stick around with Armsmaster, Dauntless, Gallant, and New Wave. Sure, it's stable, but that just means it should be easier to uproot the local villains.
  • Philadelphia. Follow Miss Militia and Vista. Work with Chevalier and deal with the upsurge in "Case 53s". You just hope no one confuses Samantha for one.
  • Chicago. Follow Assault and Clockblocker. You'll spend most of your time dealing with regular gang violence. Solar Wrath might not be the best spell here. :(
Fair warning: if Boston or Philadelphia are picked, there are going to be lots of OCs to staff the branches. More in Philly, though, since it's a larger branch and the only canon character there is Chevalier.
Hmm. Lots of plot hooks in any of the locations.

what's left of New Wave
I guess more than Brandish died?

I know someone called that.
I think that was me.

Hm. With Perfect Storm, he might actually be able to do that kind of batman-esque investigation.
3. Vista is going to become a robot.
Not everyone who loses their parents becomes 'a robot', you know.

I dunno, is this Tumblr?

I am well aware of how some may interpret it.

Your anecdotal fallacy has been noted. Do you have actual evidence that this will not be the case here?

*shrug* SV/SB has it's share of people who make bad decisions. Mainly Lulz or Shiny-chasing, but sometimes more harmful ones. Ones that mods exist to deal with. There's nothing wrong with feeling satisfaction out of bad behavior being punished. Hell, that's what the Worm fandom revolves around.
Plus, talking back to the OP about a thread/quest rule because they didn't read excuses nothing.
Seems unnecessary to put up for something like this where it's mostly personal preference.
It decides the narritive direction and focus of the quest and its main/secondary characters. It's not something one should decide lightly.
I guess more than Brandish died?
Unfortunately, that appears to be the case. Hope the kids are doing alright.

And that finally did it. For the sake of my patience, I am done with your shit. Consider your self to be the second person to be permanently ignored by me.
This is violating Rule 3 I think...

Shielder and Manpower bit it, too.
*winces*
As with Canon then. The surviving Pelhams are likely not in a good place at all right now.

Re: OCs-
You could PM Gromweld about utilizing Director Uriel if Philly ends up winning the vote.

Agreed. A grieving Sarah now has to deal with four grieving kids, a depressed in-law, and additionally strained finances of moving to a new city.
This was the last nail in New Wave's coffin. She might even join the Protectorate for support.

SV doesn't have the same rules SB does in explicitly mentioning the 'ignore' function, but only one way to find out.
He deliberately pokes me in every single quest we end up following together. I'm sick of it. But if it's violating a rule I'll just delete the damn message.
Dude. If you don't want to be around me, so to speak, and put me on ignore, that's fine. That's what the function exists for. But loudly declaring 'I am ignoring you' is at the very least you overreacting. If I am in the wrong, just walking away quietly and letting me hang myself by my own words is your best option. Don't ruin your case by saying something that takes the heat off of me.

I like the Boston option purely because of the characters we'd get to interact with there.
The only problem is I'm not sure how we would justify that decision in universe. Out of universe we know that there will be all manner of challenges to be faced and adventures to be had, what with Taylor being the main character of this quest.

I wonder if we could go anywhere besides the options given?

@Silently Watches:
If we decide to head to Chicago -- the Worm Feats and Source Thread over on SB has entries on of members from the past and previous rosters of Chicago Protectorate and Wards teams that I helped put together. I don't remember if I was able to get everything on them, but I believe that I managed to get all of the times in which taylor thought about their powers or when they were used on-screen.

There are a few charaters that don't have much of a personality, like Anomaly and Shuffle, but it should be pretty easy to create personalities and backstories for them.

Oh, I know. I plan to use that thread if Chicago wins. It's the villains I'd have to create.

I see Ack somehow made it into Worm this chapter. >_>

I think I'm leaning towards Boston. Having an arc that isn't super combat heavy will be a nice wind down from the Ziz fight.
