Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

So I just thought of something rather important.

@Silently Watches, do the Privateers have any intentions to expand their organization at all?
Yes and no. They would like to expand, certainly; the more members they have, the more and bigger teams they can send out, and the bigger and harder targets they can hit. On the other hand, part of the reason they can trust each other so easily is that they all come from the same place and already have a history with each other. That wouldn't be the case if they pulled a bunch of new people in. Not to mention, recruiting in someplace as relatively peaceful as Philadelphia is more difficult than it would have been in Brockton Bay. They would need to pull off something big to draw in people with the expectation that yes, by joining the Privateers they really could clean out all the gangs.

Nope, talking real life knife vs gun fights.
And I wasn't saying you should throw the knife, just that it's an option, and there are situations where it's advantageous (throwing the knife at the gun wielder to disrupt their aim while charging them to reach grappling distance, for example).
That's not really... practical. I'd get the same effectiveness out of throwing a my phone at the guy, and I'd still have my knife to shank with.

I doubt someone would put the same effort they would use to dodge a knife as they would to dodge a small and light blunt object if they didn't just let it bounce off of them while they just shoot you.

That's assuming in the middle of a fight, they can figure out it's a phone you've thrown at them instead of a knife. Personally, if I'm fighting someone who has a knife and they throw anything at me, I'm getting out of the way.

Regardless, unless you're absolutely desperate, throwing away your weapon is generally a bad idea.

Wait a second. Just had another thought.

@Silently Watches, you said when we first determined our class that one of the options involved body horror. I think it was agreed that you were most likely referring to the Gadgeteer class. My question is: exactly how noticeable would the alterations be in civilian form? On a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being able to pass as an ordinary human unless special investigation equipment is used, and 10 being can't possibly pass for human in any way

The body horror is probably the cybernetic upgrades done to your own body to be viable class that acts on its own a majority of the time or something.

Probably not an issue for a real team player.

Every situation is different, you can't give one end-all-be-all answer to whether to throw a knife or not, because you can't know all of the factors involved until the situation is happening; and then you need to make the decision in a heartbeat.

That said, if I'm knowingly going into a fight with a knife, I'm raiding my (admittedly small) weapons collection for my 10 throwing knife holsters (2 wrist, 2 arm [bicep area], 2 lower back, 2 ankle, 2 thigh), and stocking them all up (total of 38 throwing knives). Granted I only have 10 or so "battle ready" throwing knives.... but the other guy wouldn't know that.

More often than not throwing a knife, whether an actual knife or a throwing knife, is more a tactical move than a move designed to actually injure someone.

I was wondering when someone'd remember that little detail.
Here's a freebie reminder of a related one that might answer your question: Gadgeteer is the Combat Cyborg Template.

Gadgeteer involves body horror, but it doesn't HAVE to be the Gadgeteer himself. :D As for the obviousness, it depends on what you want done. Generally the less you worry about a prosthetic fitting in, the more you can do with it.

[warning=Warning]Let's let the Knife vs Gun debate rest, everyone.[/warning]
Thanks for that Tekomandor, it was getting annoying.

Honestly I'm surprised we haven't had more omakes. The story currently has what, 63 posts? Not to mention the fact that omakes are useful here. Maybe we could train Flare blade? Its currently looking to define struck targets as butter to its literal hot knife.

New to the quest. Just binge read the entire thing last night.

@Musical Blue, I'd recommend "Charge Cartridge (0/3 Novice)".

We can't power the radio from our own Linker Core, but can from a large enough external mana supply. Even if they're shown as bullets, cartridges are essentially mana batteries! Perfect for doing something like powering a radio. I'm not going to pretend that converting something designed to dump stored mana into a Linker Core to dump it into the radio in a steady stream is easy, but the results are certainly worth some experimentation. Plus can you imagine everyone's faces when they learn little miss blaster 9 wants more power...

I would say the same, seeing as we're primarily ranged and likely won't have immediate need of the blade. That is, except for the fact that we haven't earned charge cartridge yet and therefore cannot train it via omake, but we can train our flaming sword. I would write an omake, but I've got no time and even less ideas of what to write :(

If a spell is visible but unpurchased, I suppose I can let you put a training point into that spell. It would be no different than saving a point for a specific spell, which I've allowed before.

Ooh, idea.

Alternative uses.

The quiet hum of the freezer stuttered, and coughed to a halt. A sharp thump didn't bring the faulty appliance back into life, nor did a sharp kick.

Hopping around and using phrases she'd picked up during that magical span from her youth in which she could sort of understand more than her parents friends thought she could.

Normally Dad would fix the sometimes tempermental second hand appliances that their sudden move had forced on them. Unfortunatly he'd already left, after spending extra on filling the now eerily silent ice box.

Perfect Storm chimed softly in reply to her silent plea, a spell bubbled up through her brain and without much thought she completed the mental motion.

A blue beam splashed over the freezer, fog condensing from the warm inside air and obsuring her view for a handful of heartbeats.

"Yes, I did it!"

She flailed around in such a way that it might charitably be called a dance, a smug grin dropping from her face as the unatural mists cleared to display her handiwork.

Welp, at least the freezer would keep everything cool inside it now. But how the heck was she going to get anything out of it was a problem for tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow.
