I was thinking more like this, but Chevalier is the guy in the bed. Actually, since what has been seen cannot be unseen, this is probably what his future sleepless night will look like.
I mean it completely ignores how Eidolon's power works. Eidolon doesn't have control over what powers he gets. His shard decides what he needs at the time and gives him powers. His only option is to keep the power or to discard it. And even when he keeps the power he has little control over when it will switch to a new one. When he was fighting Scion he had to keep switching powers because it kept giving him ones he didn't want. Per Wildbow Eidolon tinkering would be difficult, because by the time he starts tinkering his shard would be trying to swap the tinker power away for something new and Eidolon would have to focus on keeping the tinker power while also tinkering. Hell his gear would quickly become worthless, because he wouldn't be able to repair it since the tinker power would have gone away.
Eidolon could and arguably should be using tinkertech, but the same can be said for basically any cape. He just wouldn't be building it on his own
He still has a limited control over what type of power he gets; in the fight with Scion, he wanted a movement power or a defensive power, and he got offered various flavours thereof, many of which have flaws, issues, or drawbacks that he doesn't want to deal with. It's not completely random.
So, he could sit down in a quiet room and focus on "I need a tinker power", and get offered anything from Bakuda's bomb tinkering through to super cake-making. It's then up to him to "swipe left" until he gets a power that he thinks he can leverage into solving an issue. He might even be able to go with "I need a low-maintenance tinker power", and then spend once a fortnight or so with "I need a power to maintain this equipment". Even a Thinker power to design/build near-Tinker-tier mundane tech, like Accord does, would work.
The Rats are going to be a Thing, I'm sure. The people of the city are NOT going to have a fun time in the wake of Leviathan. Hopefully people will start hunting them.
The worst part is that they're big enough to attack children. Hopefully the people can be prepared and forewarned.
First, let me say that was an awesome post - loved the interaction with the triumvirate.
And this post ( guess all of them, thinking about it), reads like a stream of consciousness diary thing, so any typos can in theory be attributed to Addys ADD and ignored. But since I noticed them, here they are, for you to deal with or not as you see fit.
He didn't look happy, but has seemingly given up on trying to scratch his way out of the bottle and was mostly just stomping about in the little puddled bit of water at the bottom of the bottle.
Isn't that only in 5th edition? I haven't been following all the statements @Unders made outside of story updates (this fic is popcorn to me, not something I really dive into), but just from the items she makes I get the sense that this is based on D&D 3.5.
(initial they're part of cauldron reveal)
I turned to Taylor and began to explain, completely ignoring the Triumvirate. "They're all part of some stupid conspiracy group. I'd call them cape illuminati except that would imply a level of competence none of them actually deserve. If I give them Leviathan they'll probably do something stupid with it."
(lead in for this part was cauldron trying to deny stuff and so addy began to list off the shit they were doing)
"Case fifty-threes. NEPEA-5. Your idiotic idea about making a parahuman army. That retarded parahuman feudalism experiment. The Nemesis program. Throwing innocent people into the Birdcage. Letting the Slaughterhouse Nine run amok." I dryly began listing off on my fingers, giving them a flat stare with glowing eyes. "I can list more if you want. Would you like it alphabetical or categorical?"
Okay that last bit was more of a bluff. I'd need Simmy's help if I wanted to dig up more dirt on them and she's still blue screening.
"What's this about them and the Slaughterhouse Nine?" Taylor asked, her voice frosty.
"They're perfectly capable of dealing with the Slaughterhouse Nine. They just choose not to because all the pain and horror that group of murderhobos cause means more trigger events for these morons to take advantage of."
"That is not the case. We can't face them. The Siberian-"
"IS A FUCKING MASTER PROJECTION!" I interrupted, doing my psionic double talk to ensure I'd be able to interupt her. The fact it gave my voice a suitably intimidating echo was just a bonus. "Path to killing the Siberian. Step one, snipe Dr William Manton's pedovan with a missile launcher before he knows you're there. Step two, eat celebratory cookies. Path Fucking Complete." I glared at them, eyes glowing a vibrant purple. "You deliberately let them run around and cause more and more suffering when you have the power to stop it. And yes, I know you guys know the Bogeyman and what her power is. I even know you've got your hooks into the chief director so the entire PRT is compromised too." (cauldron getting defensive)
"You have no right to judge us!"
"I have every right! I have the only right! Entire worlds gone, burned. Because you morons are so enamoured with your fucking Paths instead of thinking for yourselves. You people triggered the fucking apocalypse and even then you were mostly useless. It took fucking Khepri to save your asses and turn the disorganised mob you call an army into an actual fighting force and when the dust settled you fucks shot her in the back of the head! She sacrificed everything and her reward was a bullet through the brain! Oh and even better! Khepri had to come at the problem sideways, because the whole get an army to kill him plan didn't even fucking work."
"Magpie what're you talking about?"
"These idiots got Jack Slash to talk to with Scion and send his mentally challenged ass into trying murder everyone. Because they're idiots."
(Part of a cut Eidolon is behind the Endbringers rant)
"What'd you expect, High Priest? You forced a second rate connection to a shard, what you idiots call agents, that was never meant to have a host in the first place! A shard that lets you tap into all the Thinker's undistributed shards, including her Endbringer controlling one. Each and every Endbringer death is on you, because you wanted a worthy challenge. Something worth fighting even as you drained shard after fucking shard dry of energy. You people wanted unrestricted connections to shards and now you're paying for that.
Well this is the little girl who clone herself to make soul-powered tinkertech, shoved the braindead clone into a recycling vat headfirst and totally didn;t see anythign wrong or illogical with that course of action.
Caldron goodwill isn't worth much or really anything. They will do the same actions "for the greater good" no matter how much they like you or hate you*. So what they think of you personally doesn't effectively matter. If anything Maggie will get more concessions from them if they are well aware she doesn't like them. Of course their first response is going to be to try and strong arm her, but that would have been their first response anyway.
*A list of the people they work with and help makes that very clear.
Yeah mostly Addy doesn't really care about Cauldron or their opinion since she thinks she can totally do a better job at saving and/or destroying the world than they can.
Oh my god. I am dying, this was amazing. The perfect blend of insanity, awkward conversations and a no nonsense attitude. Not many fics manage such a good start on a a post Leviathan arc and I am looking forward to what will happen with great interest.
There will be much chaos, fire and a great deal of confusion in the future.
Also Addy interacting with Skidmark, which I honestly cannot wait to post even if it won't be for ages because for some reason her accent shifts to cockney when she starts swearing like a trooper.
The actions they do 'for the greater good' no matter what are based on Path to Victory... which can't see Addy anymore. So the actions they do are gonna be based on other judgments of Addy's competence and their ability to work with her, which, yeah.
And the whole bit about how they would and will default to strong-arming her: while Unders appears to potentially be treating them as evil/stupid, there isn't a lot of evidence from canon of Cauldron actually strong-arming powerful people when they can work with them instead.
We get a Cauldron piece in the interlude which will shed light on them. Sadly they still have the 'we must follow the path no matter what even though that power was compromised by the enemy' idiot balls from canon, since those seem to be welded into their hands, but other than that I'm gonna try keep them idiot ball free
By that definition, she's actually saner than everyone else . She views death as temporary (to her it is), assholes as assholes who can't touch her (they can't), and life as about making things and having fun (which hers is). Just because everyone else is wrong about how to treat assholes who control the world, doesn't mean she has to. She knows her rights. All of this is just severe culture clash. The rest of the world just needs to catch up with her .
So. There is going to be a period of lawlessness after this attack, absolutely not as bad as in cannon. However, in this time of strife
wouldn't it be nice to have some more minions?
And would you look at that, Addy has 4-5 untapped minions just lying around. One even has powers of her own and they all know about Addy's secret identity.
So when this all gets out I wonder if Addy would play a little prank on everyone they ask to resurrect. Instead of the resurrection spell, perhaps the reincarnation spell. Preferably the 5e variant because people will be a lot more upset if they become a badger instead of something like a female drow, still upsetting but not cripplingly debilitating to being able to do things.
Fortunately for him Magpie will be happy to answer his questions.
And everyone elses when she does her PHO Ask Magpie Anything thread in the interlude.
While the flashing lights are probably correct, instead of the ominous humming sound, it's probably more like Caramelldansen getting blasted directly into his mind..
So a few floating Ioun Stones to give stat buffs.
"Intelligence."
"Shouldn't you get some wisdom, and some more wisdom, with a side order of wisdom?"
"What's wisdom, can you eat it?"

Yeah Addy isn't quite aware that the him using tinker powers isn't as feasible as she thinks. Mostly though she just wants him to try use the more subtle stuff instead of the engaging in power-based dickwaving contests.
Definitely this though. Even a jetpack would give him so many more options (and it's not like he can't swap to a flight power if the jetpack is suddenly disabled or anything)
It was so fun to write. I hate to cut loads because there was no way Addy and Taylor were walking out of that room if Addy said everything she was originally going to say.
That's ignoring them having an entire organization of people he can outsource to or just ask dragon and if she says no they've got a copy of her as well and it works by what he wants, kinda it just has so many choices that it flips through a huge selection (hes a eden shard so he manually learns about his power instead of having instinctual control)
These are all things he could do to be a better hero if he did them and it's a decent workaround for him losing power
Ego is all that's stopping him and cauldrons refusal to even think about blind spots are why no one has said anything yet they're way to mono focused on the 'Path'
During the levi fight when she needed to get a new armband off a dead hero (and the first body she found was being nommed by rats). Amusingly enough those rats are still alive because she forgot her sword has the merciful enchantment (meaning non-lethal damage)
Rats are vicious and the larger ones are the size of Alsatians/German Shephards. They're more than capable of killing adults, let alone children. The local homeless population has actually been decreasing, but that'd been attributed the merchants being merchants instead of packs of hungry giant rats.
There will be plenty memes. Honestly it's ridiculous how memeable she is. If this was IRL (and thank God it's not) she'd probably wind up with loads of the things. Cute Girl + Insane Troll Logic + Overpowered + Fuck Authority = perfect storm of memeing.
I am pretty sure it was mostly mentioned in side material such as weaverdice, but he has a very minor thinker power based around maintaining equipment.
And for anybody claiming we don't know that, Scion's version killed Eidolon in 4 words. Cauldron used PtV constantly for 3 decades, and somehow humanity won the final battle. It wasn't compromised.
Oh, PTV was very compromised. The Eye was planning to take over the Shard Network and wipe out humanity from the start, the fact that it needed Zion out of the way first does not mean that it was on Humanity's side.
Same thing with canon Ziz, really. Both of them were always planning very bad things, the fact that they helped against Zion does not put them on the same side as Humanity and the Humanity-aligned shards.
...I wonder where Addy's shard falls on the spectrum. It clearly likes her, which is a good sign, but would it care about her enough to go against the network?
Wait... what? They didn't let her... oh, of course no one in the PRT with a silver of self preservation would let Magpie answer questions on PHO. However, that would not stop Addy.
Because from Addy's point of view, death is an inconvenience. She doesn't understand why people are getting mad at her. To her, the option of revival is so obvious that surely other people would realize that death is not a big deal.
I can only remember 2 off the top of my head. Accord and Coil. I didn't actually read much worm after leviathan. Much of my knowledge comes from other sources.

A certain hero who died from bug drowning would beg to differ. Really, if they were willing to work with people they wouldn't have ended up getting massacred by the case-53s. They only operate from a position of power.
I cut so much from that scene. Addy had originally gone full out on calling them out on their cauldron bullshit (including the BB experiment) in front of Taylor before I dialled it back to what it currently is.
Now I'm imagining Addy asking, "So....how many people have you flashed that tiny thing since last we talked?" Whenever she and Eidolon coincide in the same building.
It was so fun to write. I hate to cut loads because there was no way Addy and Taylor were walking out of that room if Addy said everything she was originally going to say.
Yes she could. She is the only one capable of maintaining what she did to that Endbringer. If they try anything she will kill herself. Considering Addy already comes off as insane she may be able to bluff Alexandria.

We are talking about the situation where the perfectly pathable Skitter attempted to strong-arm the PRT and ended up killing the damaged-goods Alexandria and became a member of the Wards with everything working out for her team, correct?
A) Glenn ended up using Weaver as part of his plan to reform the PRT, which worked pretty well and staved off the collapse of the PRT. Weaver only happened because of Alexandria's death.
B) Thanks to Pretender, Cauldron still got to use Alexandria for Endbringer fights and then Scion battle.
Rebecca got sold out by Contessa and Doctor Mother. Once her PRT Chief Director identity was burned, Cauldron only needed her body, and could gain something by sacrificing her. So they did. Deeply ironic, given how much of a Hard Decisions Woman she was, that she died because someone else Hard Decisions Woman'd her.
