Yeah Vista's PR sucks. Oh look a cute little blonde white girl! That's it. Maybe Addy notices Vista looking down, she can suggest that to her. Take a vacation on the governments dime! "I loved Vista's vistas. Huh? Vistas vistas. It's super popular photos. That didn't happen yet? I mean... it would be cool if Vista did that." Not really much of a plot point to have Vista leave the city for a week though.

I just realized that Addy has only killed men who are rapists and deal in sex slaves. When Annette confronts Addy about this and realizes Addy isn't remorseful at all, she will worry that Addy inherited her twin sisters morals towards men.

TBH I'm a carrier of the male reproductive equipment and I'm totally down with Addy culling out those types of people, but ya know the law is all about 'reasonable force' and 'not dismembering people with biological weapons'. Total killjoys.

I mean, the mind-altering only became addicting after the started recycling ADAM, and addiction isn't much of a problem when you produce that stuff. (One could even claim technically glucose has all those properties.)

And even ignoring plasmids and tonics, a Slug gives you better than Wolverine regeneration.

Lesson to be learned: Data without backups lives in a quantum state of (exists/doesn't exist) and you toss the coin anew every day.

What I recommend is getting a small consumer NAS (qnap or synology are my personal preference) with at least triple the size of your PC's storage and use Veeam for Windows Agent (free) to set up a job that does daily incrementals with a weekly (or monthly) fullbackup.

It's not overly difficult to set up and it takes almost zero effort to maintain but you always have current backups if something happens with your system.


Compared to merely copying your files onto a drive or putting them on some cloud offering (dropbox, google drive, onedrive, etc) the veeam backup has the advantage of being able to backup your entire windows installation including installed programs and so forth.

There is the cloud for that...
And some Of the more popular clouds give you the odd gigabyte for free, so storing your writing, at the very least, should not be difficult. I personally store every single bit of my writing in the freely provided storage from Dropbox.

Also, regular backups never hurt. Before I stored it in the Dropbox, I regularly emailed it myself. A friend is also a good option...

Setting something up With Dropbox is not difficult, although it can be time consuming (choosing a password that is not half a sentence long helps a lot with the setup :)

Hopefully this helps you to prevent/reduce further data loss.

NAS = Network Attached Storage
It's basically a box with one or more hard drives in it that's always available over local ethernet. It's more expensive than an external USB drive, but with the main advantage that it's always available with no need to remember to plug in a drive manually.

Manual action is where I see the main problem with keeping backups up to date: the more personal attention is needed, the more likely it is that the backup will end up neglected or outright abandoned.


You can find NASes available for purchase pretty much anywhere that sells PC parts.

As for selecting one that fits your usecase... plenty of things to consider.
Instead of reinventing the wheel, let me link this: NAS Selector | Synology Inc.
(Deliberately linking Synology instead of Qnap this time)


The reason I push qnap and synology are as follows:
1) Popularity - if you have a problem and look for a solution online, you're much more likely to find help
2) Scale - their integrated 'app stores' for additional features offer much better variety than some niche product
3) I've worked with products from both manufacturers before, kinda going back to point 1

Personally I prefer QNAP due to them being more up-to-date and typically having lower fan noise in stock configuration.
On the Synology side the software is supposed to be a bit better, though I've never really had a problem with either.

Though you can link Microsoft Word to a cloud to back up automatically.

I hope you didn't lose anything import.

    • I know what update you're talking about, my dad had the same one shitting my laptop that I let him borrow... Whoever you sent your PC to repair went the lazy approach... Could have easily booted your laptop from a disk-on-key windows installation and backed up all your shit. It would have actually taken less time than formatting and reinstalling your windows. Or the slightly more involved but even faster version of it, taking out the hard-drive and plugging it into an already working computer to copy all the shit off of it.

    In short, I am guessing you got the "apple certified care" treatment which involves quoting you the highest price for the laziest work involved.
     
    Necrosoft Doors strikes again. Some of my friends got same problem and one of them can't even rollback update. Seriously, I damn love Linux.
    Also: If Annet was lector in university, there should be lot of people knowing her. I'm seriously surprised that noone already called her out.

    I think you might be seriously overestimating how many people go on to get a college degree in a shithole like BB. And to be fair it's been like 3 years and it's not even a sure thing that they publicized her death at the college/university. They don't always.
     
    I finished Subnautica a few weeks ago. Now I finished Subnautica Below Zero (it's still in open beta/Early Access). Architect (the precursor aliens) technology is wicked cool. And they also have some insane biotinkering in Subnautica Below Zero. It's right up Addy's ally.

    edit: plus you get access to a plague that spreads across animal special and decimates planets

    I love the shard interaction subtext. I don't think it needs to be so low profile though. [Reminder] isn't something that Addy notices. It just nudges in the background. I think the reader can parse that with visible text.

    If Addy somehow gets Parasite Paracide to exist and work in reality then it makes Taylor's ability much more fearsome.
    For anyone who doesn't know about it, Parasite Paracide infects you(Your deck) and constantly harms you(Your Life Points) when it appears. The rest of the wording is that it turns all your monsters into insects, but I'm not sure if this would mean Taylor could control you or not.
