Granted Addy's not as completly unstoppable, but there's a lot of parallels and holy shit is that a good example of a story about a ward who just DOES NOT CARE what the PRT wants.

Personally, I've never read a story in which the entire Hebert family gets a kill order/branded a villain. Sounds exiting to me! Canon has been trashed ages ago, why not go all out! They'de have no reason not to just take over the docks then, and Addy could start ramping the big guns up, because pennies and pounds yo! This aint a fix it fic after all, more like high speed wrench injection.

I doubt Costa Brown would let Piggot execute that KO at all though, cuz precog plus trump? That's too valuable to let Piggot's (reasonably justified) paranoia kill an asset.

Well, I think the people saying Armsmaster will find her implant signals or they will find the ADAM in her blood have it right. This won't so much kick off a Wards arc so much as kick it in the balls and run away screaming.

While I don't deny that it is realistic, I find this sort of behavior incredibly moronic. Does the PRT really think that any intelligence, artificial or otherwise, is just going to meekly accept its death on the grounds that some scared bureaucrats think that it has no right to exist? If they try, they will be starting the very war that they're so afraid of. If Codi's mere existence is already illegal then she has no reason to follow the laws. Essentially, the PRT is saying that if there's even a chance that an A.I. is hostile, they have to take actions that will ensure that it's hostile, literally turning a powerful potential ally into their worst enemy. That's not going to end well for anyone.

I don't get how people missed this, but Addy's dialysis hasn't come up in a while. Addy needs to do dialysis about once a week, otherwise her skin turns grey and her eyes glow. She can't get dialysis while locked up in PRT custody for a long trial. This would lead to the PRT asking questions. Biotinkering questions. Addy agreed to join the Wards so she can hide her biotinkering.

I think it was the smart choice. A biotinker master will go to the Bird Cage for existing. Addy's lawyer did a great job.

edit: Also, I think Addy's biotinkered body can be hidden for a long time. If she's injured, she can just get hit with a White Mage healing spell and be good to go. No doctor's needed.

I think they are assuming that Addy put a kill switch on Codi, like Dragon and Ascalon. They cannot comprehend Addy's Addy-ness would never put a kill switch on her beloved AI, who is also her babysitter and tells her to eat vegetables.

There is a reason why people call Cauldron and the PRT "Stupid Evil", and this is a big part of why. Their job is to keep a lid on things. When they cannot control or contain something, they pick a bigger fight because it's the only thing people like Piggot and Costa-Brown know how to do.

I've got a lot of ADAM in my system at the moment, especially since my last dialysis was last Tuesday and I'd planned on doing it tonight before bed, so I should be able to tank a lot of damage.

As much as I dislike press-ganged Wards fics Addy joining the Wards, post Shadow Stalker, is in line with her characterization. She choose the easy option as it interferes with her tinkering the least in the short term. Yes Splyce was tinkering in her stead, but she was still limited in her actions and was interfered with by the constant questioning.

On the other front Annette and Danny most likely agreed with the decision because they feel Addy needs more monitoring when they were just proven to be unable to watch over her. The lawyer knew they would win the case if it went to trial, but that would create a long drawn out battle that would have been incredibly costly to the family he was hired to protect. While we don't have the context of the proceedings outside the view of a bored preteen with at least one acronym disorder, I have to imagine multiple options were gone over before deciding on her 'recruitment' into the Wards. If Addy finds any shady dealing in the Wards you can bet the lawyer will be able to run with them to take the entire PRT to the bank as well. She entered in a position of power with her tinker/trump abilities meaning she has a great position to make things happen.

The questions going forward are: How will this blow up in the Protectorates face? Will Splyce be revealed as a Ward? Will Addy use her new position to make Shadow Stalker's life even worse? Will Simmy 'help' Addy by having Addy inadvertently destabilizing the protectorate by revealing Cauldron?

I agree with alot of people here that this entire situation is a PR nightmare if it gets leaked. And there's nothing stopping the Heberts to just threaten to go public with what the PRT is trying to do cause afiak they arnt under a NDA.

You update faster than any other worthwhile Wards or malicious compliance story so maybe this won't be too bad. Still not at all what I looked forward to. Can't see this going in a way that doesn't tilt the story further into crack. Addy couldn't keep being a Tinker secret for 5 minutes when she talked with non-family so keeping other secrets from the PRT isn't likely. There's no realistic way she can keep her propensity for bio modification on herself or others from being discovered. Both the ENE and being a Ward suck. Letting the PRT know her specialty is a turning point that can't be undone.

She was really getting past the setup stage. She had some good powers and equipment, was getting past the Hebert's banning everything she does, just started patrolling with Taylor and then suddenly!wards. Not to mention PRT being asses to make it happen.

Willingly working for Piggot is insane. It's like being a minority working for Medhall while knowing they're behind the E88. She's a hateful spiteful bitch who took pleasure in making the Wards pay for damage to the bank after she didn't give them any PRT backup and put them up against a known killer (exten circumstances or not) and a suspected heartbreaker child and Glory Girl caused much of the damage.

There's other narrative reasons as well. This is the opposite of catharsis. Addy was kidnapped by the E88, attacked by the Dragonslayers, had to out herself to stay alive, had her equipment stolen first by the Dragonslayers and then by the PRT, and is then threatened by the PRT because she had to kill to save herself from murderous Nazis the PRT didn't stop for 20 years.

I was looking forward to a tinker of fiction that finally tells the PRT to screw itself especially when she's in such a position to do so (resources, meta knowledge and protective AI). She didn't need to capitulate, she had more than enough to make the PRT back off completely just with what Codi could theoretically do to them. At the same time I can understand why it's not often done since once a threat like that is made it can't be made again. There wasn't a good choice here and I think the story would've been better off avoiding this confrontation entirely.

I'd say you did a good job, it really irks me when authors try to use normal earth laws against laws in fantasy or drastically AU versions of Earth with very much different history. Doubly so for Earth Bet where it is canon that certain groups manipulate politics for their own ends making laws in favor (Cauldron) or against (Cauldron or politicians against capes) Parahumans. And as the story have said legal issues and precedent born out of fear (or Canary case) are going to be a thing for every human Master case in their history. I think even Wildbow said that some laws in Bet are born out of fear and prejudice against cape because Earth Bet really wasn't ready for the drastic shift from Capes and Endbringers

Also, don't know if this has been asked but could thing like Potion, Esuna or other healing techs of Addy cure the side effects of Adam?

Why? Besides the "I don't like Wards/PRT" reasoning. Addy being pushed into the Wards is a direct consequence of not only Addy's own actions but also well justified in story on the build up of it in story so it didn't come out of nowhere. If Addy was keeping her shit secret doing nothing and suddenly pushed into he Wards then one can complain but Addy really isn't that and as subtle as a missile in being a Parahuman

Um. Isn't Canary still in trial right now? Couldn't they send Caile after her to prevent nasty precidents ever getting set in the first place?

Also, keeping Canary out of totally a undeserved prison sentence any half-competent and three-quarters-corrupt lawyer could have prevented. Like Mouse Protector, this is one solvable tragedy Addy could prevent with just a few words (and a bunch of money).

The Doylist reason is that the author has written an entertaining story so far so I'm willing to trust they have something planned.

The Watsonian reason is that I doubt the Simurgh or Reality Lens would leave Addy stuck in the Birdcage for long when she could be doing far more interesting things elsewhere. In the event she does get sent there, I wouldn't be surprised if her next power-shift gave her an option to escape the Birdcage (and, if she wanted, take other inmates too) using materials she can feasibly access.

That said, how she was forced into the wards annoyed me too.

I imagine that Director Armstrong and Legend would demand the girl be released when they try to buy groceries, or pay their employees, and they can't. She was multiple floors underground according to her see through walls ability, so no, she could not have done that. She could have done a LOT more to escape, sure, including Null Lancing a hole straight up and teleporting up to the next floor, but we've already established she's pants at actually using her powers.

The problem is timing, as even in the best case scenario she would be in PRT Custody for days while it all got sorted out. Even with the leaked video, even with the lack of reasonable charges to pin on her, the PRT will keep her as long as they (un)reasonably can, and that will get her caught due to her medical needs eventually.

She was already at the limit before her dialysis needs started to show, and while she could lie about that in the short term, lying to Armsmaster is a crapshoot at best due to his lie detector and eventually they won't buy that anymore anyway.

Point is, she exists partially outside this dimension which means they have no hope in hell of catching her. They don't, because morality and Dragon and the fact that Codi is a sentient Ai capable of refusing orders from her creator. I don't think the PRT can prosecute a 12 year old girl acting in self defense therefore I blame it on the lawyer

So far the author has made an interesting story. The wards part hasn't even been written yet, I'd say give it a chance I think it offers more room for fun character interactions and shenanigans.
