Rumor Mill Turn 28
Rumors:

News From The Front! Valiant Heroes Saving Civilians By Paying Ultimate Price!
The armies of Slatnan are the mightiest in the world, only eclipsed in numbers by the fanatical hordes of the Eversun or in power by the greedy companies of mercenaries bought by Dul. They have time and again proven that few things can stand against our combined might and courage. Yet, we do not face Humans, Mutated, Mutants, or Machines in Starlight, but an abomination against man in its entirety, mindless and insane. Which would choose to pile up its corpses against walls to make a ramp, rather than build and climb ladders. One which cares no for the sanctity of childhood, the iron bonds that a surrendering enemy places upon the victor, or even the acknowledgment that civilians are not to be killed in wanton slaughter as one pleases. An enemy that broke our ranks, not by valor, but by numbers, which forced our soldiers to retreat, shielding the Starlighters, which had escaped the insanity of the Council. Without our Knights, many would have had to choose between duty and life, between allowing a village to flee and their salvation. Yet, even as we are pushed back, we prepare to receive the Flood at the walls of the Cities, which have sworn fealty to the Empire and Emperor Elianus, in exchange for safety from the crimes of the Council. And as the shell-shocked survivors hide in their homes, our soldiers will ensure that these new subjects and soon-to-be citizens of the Empire will not regret their decision. We will win, and we will triumph, as we always have.

Forge-Clans Rejoice At Massive Order!
After many Knights fell in both defense and attacks against the Flood, Emperor Elianus has commissioned the Forge-Clans to construct over 2.000 Knights! They are not only intended to cover the recent losses, but to allow for the founding of five new Chapters that are to be stationed inside Starlight to hunt the Mutants, Monster, and Bandits that are sure to spring up in a region choking on the dead as it currently does. However, It has dropped the treasury to a record-low in decades, as Knights' construction and materials are not cheap. At least trade with the Shieldbelt-Alliance is kicking up, with the brewing Cold War between them and the Eversun, despite the disruption of the Tessen-Route because of the Dreadnought.

The Dreadnought Has Arrived!
A piece of news that is received with terror beyond all else; the arrival of the Butcher. The dreaded Machine has already claimed settlers too stubborn or idiotic to abandon their homes in favor of safer havens, beginning its rampage and path of carnage to its destination. Sources tell that Jokvi, Strul, or Mirn could be its intended target, set on killing all that seek refuge in those cities. But fret not! Marqui Tessen and the Chapter of The Blue Lance are beginning to dig in, co-ordinate with Forge-Clan Vanar-Feer, and various Mercenary Companies to meet the dreaded Machine in battle! After they have weakened it with several Harpoons, of course, and forced it into a disadvantageous position. There are even rumors floating around that an expedition from the Forge-Clan went deep into the Forest of Rust to discover where the Butcher came from and seek a way to shut it down if possible. Let us hope that they succeed!

Mass Murder In Zulmni And Jokvi!
At first, it had been an isolated incident. Only another unsolved murder, while terrible and uncommon, was expected in a city housing over a hundred thousand souls. What was unexpected was the symbols carved into the flesh of the killed; a circle with several inward-facing triangles. Worrying, but there had been weirder things, as it could merely be a personal thing between the dead and the killer. Yet, the worst came true, as more corpses were found, each having the same symbol carved into them. At first, the guard thought it was merely the work of a serial-killer whose favored targets were too random to predict. Then the body count rose, and rose, and rose. Until Jokvi reported the same murders and the same symbol, indicating that something more is at work. The Captains of both cities have sworn that they will see the perpetrator found, tried, and hanged, though that is barely any consolation for the 38 deceased's families.

Baron Esker Recognizes Mutated Son!
In a shocking twist of events, Baron Esker reverted on his decision and officially recognized Jari as his son, even born with his chitin-armor and multi-hued eyes as he is. Doing so has given the newly born Mutated many rights and duties of other noble sons of similar status, though without the right of inheritance or the privilege to pilot a Knight. What had driven the Baron to do such a controversial act is unknown, though there are whispers of him receiving a visitor wearing a white triangle on their clothing a few months prior.

Spy-Network:

The Church Of Eden looks down on you with disdain. The lower members incorporated Anti-Pilgrim sentiments in their sermons, which, as far as you can tell, are encouraged by the higher clergy. Several traders seem to have been "convinced" to take their trade elsewhere. But there are reports of some in the upper echelons panicking due to a break-in into an archive, where several important financial and confidential ledgers were taken. Though who could have done that and why is unknown. Except it was you, and what you now know is deliciously hypocritical. (-25 to all diplomatic rolls in Turn 28, +2 Material cost to all actions due to traders refusing to sell.)

The Common People
seem ready for whatever may come out of the coming struggle. Many have readied themselves for emergency evacuations of their homes. The most pressing matter (besides the Titan) is a lack of sanitation, though expanded sewers are currently being constructed. Estimates say they will be finished in six months.

The Mutated are acclimatizing to their new normal. Sure, they are still not allowed to visit or buy in many of the same places as humans do, but they won't be beaten for being near one for more than a few minutes. Some have started to own businesses outside the slums, which have seen an uptick in sales due to panic-buying in reaction to the Titan. No refugees have harassed them, and if what you are reading is correct, the refugees are more or less friendly or neutral to the Mutated.

Sounds like a cult.
There are even rumors floating around that an expedition from the Forge-Clan went deep into the Forest of Rust to discover where the Butcher came from and seek a way to shut it down if possible.
Aww no mention of who led them there.

You know, if there is a theatrical speech that is obviously written to raise morale, then you know things went horribly wrong.

I somehow doubt there will be anything alive in Starlight, after the war. I am curious about what an order like that does to the economy of the empire though.

Ouch, Jovik not only has to worry about the Butcher, but there is also a murder cult around. And it has to be some organized group to rack up a kill count of 38 families.

Aaaand they keep escalating. At least we might be able to use the blackmail to force them to back down. Or we keep that in the backhand and strick back in another way, Count Esker sounds like a great opportunity for that.

Not many new things here. I'm surprised the refugees are neutral on the Mutated.

1. You have no idea.
2. ...are you looking at my notes?
3. Fixed.
4. 38 kills. The families are grieving, though I couldnt get the grammatic to work right and every variant felt wrong. So, eh.
5. Aah, the benefits of having positive relationships with all major Houses in a region. Never go without.
6. You reduced tensions and had the opinion on Mutated a 0, so they mostly ignored each other.

2. It's mainly because it's difficult to screw up the construction of a lock in such a way that it can still be used as a lock. So a success despite a Nat 1 means it's functional, but somehow still impractical or at least difficult to use.
For a lock, that would be if the key is impractically large or heavy.

4. Killing 38 people in four months is still more than what I think one single killer can do. Especially if they barely left any traces.

Whee! Listen to the wooshing sound I made as I caught back up with this quest!

It's nice to see that things are going, uh...well there's a war against a terrifying zombie horde, and we got a second monster sent to our doorstep, and there's a murderous cult of some kind, and the Church of Eden are our sworn enemies...but we have soup kitchens now! And Selene is still really cute! The QM's recent revelation about special dice rolls got me thinking: would her babies be deer like her? Little fawns?

Hey, look on the bright side! The Machine-Zombie-Hive-Mind is loosing bodies at high speed, unable to replenish its numbers to counteract the Empire inflicting massive casualties, the Butcher is being hacked by Bolt, a Scriptor (Programmer) trained by the best Scriptors in the Empire, the murderous cult is not in Mirn (yet), and the COE thinks you are too small to really bother! A hurray for complacency!

On the topic of Selene having babies; being a Mutated does not mean that your children are automatically going to be Mutated too, or inherit the same Mutations as their parents. The chance is higher than by normal Humans, but there is no guarantee that her kids will be fawns, as Selene has three Mutations (Horns, Legs, Ears) which combine into her appearance. They could be normal Humans, or have Muations that won't turn it into a fawn.

Except it is.

So these are the rumors that are directly affecting our operations right now. (Obviously the husks in starlight could eventually turn into a problem, but they are very far and we have next to no means to do anything about it)

Hopefully we can turn off the Dreadnought through the workshop this turn, before it reaches any of the cities. I have a feeling that we'll end up needing to use our Harpoon to buy enough time for the Scriptor to breakthrough the firewall and shut it down.

A mass murder cult on the rise is both out of left field, and not a surprise. Everything is starting to go to shit, why not add ritualistic serial killers to the mix? I worry that their use of triangles, even if it's merely a part of a larger symbol, might make people think that they are connected to us somehow. Either way, hopefully we can find ways to increase our infiltration DCs to prevent them from getting inside any of our buildings.

Finally, it seems having good standing with the local nobility, and reducing the Mutated opinion to 0 on both the Elites and Common Folk is paying dividends. Combining our favor, the Blackmail we found, and the prestige we'll get for helping stop the Dreadnought, we should be able to start pushing Eden out of Tessen. We should make sure to use the adventurers guild and our criminal contacts to sabotage and attack their operations this turn as well. If Selene really is pregnant, we can't afford to have them operating in Tessen for too much longer. Even if they fail to agitate the common people into a Purge of the Mutated, they may still try and attack us themselves at our wedding.

I don't think we should marry Selene this turn, not with Eden still preaching without issue in Tessen and Mirn especially. But I do think we should marry her before she gives birth. So next turn, or the one after it at the latest.

1. If you are dealing with the Flood, then something has gone seriously wrong. Remember; there is a massive army between you and them, with over 8.000 war-machines that the Flood practicaly can't harm, aside from clogging them up with bodies.

2. The symbol in question is six triangles arranged to face inwards and burned into the flesh of their victims, it looks like the symbol of the umbrella corporation. You only have one white triangle on blue, commonly found on fabric. And you stand at (2/3) Opinion with the Common People, those that make the connection are more offended on your behalf than suspecting you of mass murder.

3. They may be hateful, but they are not suicidal. Attacking you openly like that would get them murdered by the military faster than they can blink. You may have (semi) religious freedom inside the Empire, but they will crack down on anyone starting shit.

It would be prudent of me to say that you are not figthing against the entire might of the COE. You are figthing against the branch inside Tessen. The religion as a whole may hate you when you start flipping them off publicly, but once they have been booted out of Tessen, they will not be able to do any precise strikes against you, only ensure that the Green Dunes will be off-limits to your preachers, and make your live difficult when you start converting any regions that have a Eden presence. Play it right, and you will never hear of them again after removing their power in Tessen, beyond occasional overtures in political circles.

And I would like to inform you that the secret you found is the equivalent of a tactical nuke. You could, should you roll high enough, gut their influence in the region in half. Yes, half.

Is it the traditional kid diddling operation? Because the COE reminds me of medieval Catholic church and they were/are pretty infamous for that.

It has to do with family, but not in the way you are thinking about.

Though kid diddling is pretty much an instant death-sentence inside Slatnan, for all religions and levels of society. They don't tolerate that kind of shit one inch.

This is what we heard in the rumor mill.
But there are reports of some in the upper echelons panicking due to a break-in into an archive, where several important financial and confidential ledgers were taken.
So it has something to do with their finances. Since we got an extreme hook from this, I'm assuming they either cooked their books so much or the IRS equivalent is fucking terrifying. Probably both.

[Canon] - Heretical Text about Fractal Nova, Goddess of Freedom and Mercy
I am now writing the story of my encounter with one of the legends of the wastes. Everyone knows that the wastes are full of terrors and monsters with warnings to watch the sky for the dreaded Reaper common place, yet some of the creatures therein are truly bizarre and this is my encounter with one such being.

I had been exploring the wastes for a month when I found a set of massive paw prints in the ground. Now, being well versed in animals and other such fields as any good explore is, I quickly identified the prints as belonging to a Feline of some sort. Once, I had determined it to be the tracks of a feline it was simple enough to conclude that they were the tracks of an Elemental feline due to their unnaturally large size. Each of the prints was almost the size of entire torso and I am not a small man by any measure. As such it was fairly clear at this point that I had found the tracks of an unknown species of elemental felines.

Thus, I began to follow the tracks and since they were not being hidden it was safe to conclude that the animal either didn't fear being tracked or that it wanted for me to find it. Back then I stupidly assumed the first option but now I know that she wanted me to find her.

So the journey took a few days, until I found a large cave at which point the tracks ended as they went inside. Being consumed by the chance to discover a new species I entered the cave and to my astonishment found a cave covered in crystals, and at the very far end a hole open to the sky and a rock fallen to the ground.

"Welcome to my home." A voice growled from behind me, as I looked upon the cave with wonderment, and I have no shame in admitting that I nearly fainted from fear when the being spoke those words. Turning around slowly I came face to face with the single largest cat I have ever heard of, let alone seen.

"A tiny human, wandering into my lair. One might wonder if such a man has taken leave of his finite senses. After all, what could convince one of the fallen to wander so far from their false security, if not an illness of mind and soul. However, little human, my name is Fractal Nova, born of celestial and fractal blood."

From what she told me later, I stood there blinking like a moron for the next five or so minutes, which I have reason to believe that she found hilarious. Regardless, one of the most prominent questions of the elemental felines has in fact been answered and the result is that they can in fact have children between sub species. Although, if Nova is a viable measuring stick I highly caution against such actions. Which should become clear as I write her story as she told to me and I frankly doubt she even knows the concepts of lying or hyperbole as even though her mind is at the veery least human level she has some rather large blindspots with regards to ideas and certain concepts.

According to her, she was born to a Celestial feline and her father was a Fractal feline. Even though people with experience in these two races might argue that such is impossible, I believe that its possible due to the greatest strength of the celestial species being their great armor while the fractal are great at avoiding attacks and shredding even armor with their claws. As such with these traits as they are I feel that it is fully possible for a fractal feline to best a celestial feline in battle or to tire it out enough to allow for mating.

Regardless, of which one of her parents where which, it is without a doubt that I write that she is in fact a hybrid of both celestial and fractal breeds. With that little factoid out of the way I can continue to write her full story and every so often where there is needed clarification I will write it in parentheses.

She was born to a female celestial and male fractal elemental felines, however, even as a young kitten she was different from the others of her litter as they were normal purebred kittens compared to her hybrid heritage. By the second week of life she was already three times the size of the other kittens and far smarter than even her mother, and this rate of growth did not abate for the next entire year. At the end of the first year of her life by which point she had long since left her mother and the rest of littermates, she was already the size of a large pony and the smartest being in the region (she was apparently born in a region with little if any humans or other intelligent beings).

As she wandered over the land, never settling down due mostly to never feeling as if she fit into the area around, she only grew larger and smarter. By the end of her first decade of life by which point she had long since all but forgotten her mother and littermates she had found her first human. This human bore what to us is clearly the marks of mutation and the effects of a life in the wastes, yet to her the small creature smelled odd.

She told me that she considered eating the man, yet something held her from doing such and instead she waited and when the man awoke from sleep, both of them had a surprise waiting for the other. According to her recollection of that event, she was most surprised when the small creature made sounds in a sequence. As expected of such a human, the man when he woke up went to attack Nova, which as can be inferred did not go his way as her skin and fur simply shattered and sheared his primitive iron sword into small chunks. With his weapon lost the man simply waited for death to come.

For her side of things, Nova was confused about the item that had been aimed at her and the fact that it simply broke apart as it did on contact. Thus began what she calls the Standoff, a situation where both of them didn't know what to do and waited for the other, but both of them were doing the same leading to a full day of waiting until the man broke and began to back away. From what she told me, she decided to keep him in sight but not remain close to him, this strategy ended up working as the man began to run back to his tribe to bring word of the massive animal following him.

When the tribe and Nova met each other, Nova was mostly just confused as she told me and waited for them to act. This was the primary event that happened at those times, she would wait for the humans to do something and she would then respond every so often. It probably would have remained as such, but for something that might have been a wendigo that decided to attack the tribe. This mutant had a large pack of Blightdogs with it and the tribe was caught off guard and likely to die to the last in such an event. However, Nova found the stench of the mutants and dogs unbearable and attacked in turn. From her telling, the fight was less a fight, being more akin to a slaughter in her favor. Each of her swipes tore several blightdogs to shreds and one simple attack tore an entire limb from the leader of the entire attack.

The few attacks thrown at her, were simply shredded by her fur before even reaching her skin. In only a few minutes the fight was over and the entire attacking force eradicated, after this event the tribe began to treat her more akin to a god, giving her offerings of food and with an elder becoming a priest in her name. This does in fact prove that the tribes in the wastes might not be as foolish as some believe when they claim to serve an incarnated god, regardless over the next few years she learned how to speak and the tribal tongue, while fighting off several more attacks by smaller threats.

She spent around a decade with that tribe, but left when they began to push at her to help them expand and gather more people. At first she helped, but later on she began to feel that they were simply using her strength for their own desires and as she had nothing more to learn from them she simply wandered away one day, never looking back. Over the next few decades the cycle would repeat itself as she would save tribes from mutant attacks and learn from them for a time before leaving once more. This nomadic lifestyle came to an end around a century ago by her count, when the military forces of a small nation came to capture her to serve as a living siege weapon for them.

For the first time she actually felt anger, or an emotion that could fit that title. The group of seventy five soldiers and a single worn down Knight represented the majority of the nation's military might. The fight that ensured was more balanced than the fights she had been in before then, but even so the Knight was simply shredded in the first few hits and the armor that the men had only blunted her claws when hit lightly. This fight taught Nova much of how to fight and the best ways to apply her massive physical strength, speed and intellect to such situations. However, her anger over being attacked by humans that wished to enslave her, pushed her from the wandering path she normally took and into a far more aggressive mindset. Over the next five years she methodically eliminated every single person involved in the plan to enslave her and in the process developed a terrifying hatred of the very concept of slavery.

In the decades since that point, whenever she finds a society that makes use of slavery, the slavemasters are soon to die by her claws and fangs. Along with direct slave owners those that profit directly also suffer the same fate and even the larger government tends to be eradicated by the time she leaves the land. As of the time of this writing nothing has even managed to harm her beyond superficial wounds that heal nearly instantly, and those were only inflicted by a walker piloted by a grandmaster.

That is her story summarized as she told me in that cave months ago. Below rests a description of Fractal Nova.

When I met her, she was approximately ten meters tall at the shoulder and had a full length including the tail of thirty five meters. Her fur is as sharp as normal fractal cats claws if not shaper and her claws cut through anything I could think to test them on with the greatest of ease. Even some anceint metal that I dug up was shredded by her claws without much effort. In general she has all gifts of Fractal and Celestial felines only improved and some form of immortality.

As a final note, if you meet her on the road, be respectful and kind and she will not cause you any harm. Attack her or harm one she is protecting and your life is forfeit.

Thats good. Thats damn good.

Canon and +5 extra points for the quality of the Omake. Will update the Bestiary once I am home and add her to the Mythical tab.

Taking mutated family members of church goers and using them as slaves?
Nope, almost all members of the COE disinherit and break contact with any Mutated family members when joining. When they have a Mutated child, they tend to kill or throw them into the wilderness, but most give them to orphanages, unable to commit murder on a newborn.

And now that I am thinking about it, if the secret had been about kid diddling, it would have actually been weaker as something to attack the Church with. For internal coherence, not legal matters. The offender would have been given over without question for execution.

[Canon] - Cult of the Shattering Claw
With a creak the door slide open as a young woman slipped through the crack and into the room. "You are late, acolyte." An aged voice rumbled from the darkness of the room, pierced only by a single beam of light that came from a lantern far above. "Forgive me, for my late return to the fold, but I had to be careful to avoid being discovered." Her voice shook with fear, yet she refused to bend the knee to the ancient voice.

With a rustle of cloth, an aged man stepped into the light, taller than the norm with hair bleached white from age and a worn face of decades, the master of the temple made for an impressive sight, as he lifted the stave of his office with a grunt. "I know of the dangers of our faith, yet such never gave me pause when I was the chosen runner all those decades ago. If you seek ascension you must learn to only fear that which is present. There is no place in our hearts for fear of the entire world, fear only that which is near and dear." He spoke as he gestured with the stave to the room, "I was one of the first to be freed by Her and I looked upon Her vestige when she tore my master limb from limb. I was the one that raised this temple in her name. We do not preach and demand faith, instead we focus upon actions. It is this most important tenant of our faith, that we send you acolytes forth to test yourselves in the world beyond our walls. Now tell me of what you have discovered in the Empire's lands."

"I have walked the among the people of the Empire. There are a few of their number that advocate for the slavery of mutated individuals. However, it appears that the majority of the Empire seek to prevent such ideals and even go as far as to eliminate such persons. As for their indentured servants they appear to have wisdom enough to understand the dangers inherent in such actions and have codified laws in order to restrict the worst outcomes of the institution. Overall, the Empire seems to be a viable ally, although I personally doubt they would be willing to cooperate with us directly." The woman's voice remained steady and firm as she gave her report as she had seen hope in the Empire for even though darkness was manifest within, it was still held at bay by the light.

With a solemn nod the aged priest, slammed the stave of office onto the ground. "Very well, you have given us information that shall assist us in the future. With the Empire aligned with our ideals, I believe it is time to expand our ranks into their cities. As per the normal protocols for such expansion did you note any cult, religion or sect that would serve as an easily infiltrated base of operations for such an endeavor?" The elder spoke with every word infused with an almost palpable sensation of authority.

Falling to her knees the woman nodded, "I found my way towards the Forest of Rust in my travels and therein I found a new religion arising. Following the directives and protocols as I was taught, I entered their ranks posing as a homeless individual with only a few skills learned by hard work on the streets. Instead of the normal welcome of prejudice and insults, I found only compassion in their ranks. Entire groups of their number left their compound every day to feed the poor of the city in which they called their home, entire teams worked day and night to reinvent the past secrets, I saw technology beyond what scavengers could ever hope to reproduce. Yet, the greatest find I managed to acquire was a freshly printed tome that held all of their tenants, laws and desires. By my authority as a Traveler, I proclaim them as provisional allies of our work." At the end of her report, she pulled a small book from one of her many bags before handing it over to the priest.

The priest in turn, began to read the pages of the small book, a smile etching itself upon his worn face as he read. "If this is true then I agree with your assessment." Lifting his stave from where he had lowered it, and angling it so that it caught the beam of light. The moment the stave came into contact the mirrors built carefully into the long metal stave danced with light as the beam bounced from one to the next, until finally it came to rest on the forehead of the kneeling woman. "By my authority as the Awakened, I declare you acolyte no longer. Your title shall be determined by the success of the mission I give you of this moment. You are to return to these Pilgrims, integrate yourself into their ranks and begin to agitate for the addition of a condemnation of all slavery and forms thereof to their code of laws and tenants. As the Pilgrims are a viable ally, begin to spread the word of the Breaker of Masters among their ranks. This is your mission, turn the Pilgrims into true allies of ours. If you so wish, I give you leave to also work towards the building of a new branch of ours in their city. Now go forth, with mission in hand, do the Breaker proud." As the final word was said, the man let his stave fall to the ground.

With a final nod, the kneeling woman stood and quickly slipped out of the door as quietly as she entered. "Are you sure its wise to trust such a mission to an impulsive child?" A voice asked from the sides, revealed as light spread across the room, revealing almost a hundred men and women sitting silently in chairs. "Young Selena is one of the best that has come to our ranks in the last decade. I have confidence in her skills and ability to complete the mission I have given her tonight." A wave of nods came from the watchers as they all, looked towards the one that had first brought the question to bear. "We all know that you are impressively good with your judgement of character and skills, Master Varen." A gasp could be heard as every single person sucked in a deep breath at the insult that had been delivered in such a dry tone of voice.

"You know as well as I, that I only was a Master due to force. My father could not very well let his only son, become something useful to society after all. Do you truly think that I only changed my ways when She came? If so then leave for nothing I can say will change your mind, as my very life would be forfeit if she had judged me guilty." The high priest, simply stared at the one that had dared to insult him, in the most uncouth and insulting way possible. Bringing up ancient history long since buried and forgotten, to all but a select few, and even by extension insulting the Breaker herself.

The man, that had uttered the insult, found himself the focus of everyone in the room, all waiting to hear his augments and reason for insulting the one that had lead them from a small collection of ten souls, to the nation spanning religion that they had since become. For a near century he had lead them, hiding in the shadows as their doctrine was anathema to all major religions and nations at large, forming temples in cites across the world, by now thousands were in their ranks. All bound by the same desire to see humankind free of the shackles of the parasites that so loved to see living, thinking beings chained to their knees, and yet one of the inner hundred had dared to accuse the Leader of being a Master, even after he was fully aware of the work that the Leader had done. Such a thing was the closest thing to heresy that any in the room had ever heard of.

"Once a Master, always a master. Is that not one of our tenants? Do we not use that to justify our killings of Masters?" The man spoke with a wavering voice far from being comfortable in realizing that his opinions were unwelcome among the others.

"Have you forgotten everything we have changed in the recent decades? In the beginning yes our tenants were far more harsh and difficult to wangle, yet I worked for decades to rework the nature of our people and those others freed by Her. Cults in her name that were too chaotic were destroyed outright or consumed into ours, tenants that posed issues were rewritten over decades to reduce such issues. If you cleave to the old texts, then you have no place among us. We no longer kill without reason, we kill only those that are beyond hope. We see the grey in the world and take that into account. When the day of Judgment comes, we will fight for both sides, to forge a world of true justice. Master and Slave, will both be represented the same and only Truth will be accepted. I was allowed to live by Her, when she saw that I sought to protect those that I had been forced to take ownership of from the men that my father used to control his slaves. I say that our mission is not to kill all that have slaves, but only those that abuse their slaves. If one such as I exist then they should be embraced as a brother of ours, not killed like a dog. However, all those like my father shall be burned in the final day. This is what we strive towards." The thunderous voice of the high priest belied his aged and withered body, and all could see the fire within his heart had not dimmed with age.

"The Pilgrims shall become our face to the world, they have already been recognized as a true religion in the Empire and soon they shall denounce slavery and indentured servitude. Then young Selena will push more over the years and eventually they will turn towards proclaiming all should be free. They need not follow our path to the letter, but with their public position, when they denounce slavery people will listen. In time, the Pilgrims and we, the Shattering Claw, shall join together to forge a new and better world from the ashes of this one." Lifting his stave once more, he slammed it into the ground creating a clear chime. "The final day of judgment comes ever closer, and soon Fractal Nova shall look upon the world with pride and joy, when the last chain is forever shattered. This is what we have been waiting for, and now is the time to seize the opportunity and make it our own."

Good omake, but a few nitpicks.

1. The Empire is actively opposed to slavery, having a deat sentence on those that practice it. See one of the earlier Rumor updates. The Iron-Works ones.
2. While there is a minority that proposes that Mutated are enslaved, they usually stop being outspoken about that after a visit by the Internal Security.
3. Indentured Servitude exists, but there are clearly defined lines. You would be forced to work on what your debt-holder tells you, but you would recieve fair compensation/reduction of your debt for it. They cannot tell you to fight/kill/die for them, as the Civil war showed the Empire that anyone amassing a private army is liable to use it.
4. If I read it right, your Selene is a different one than the one Martyris is in love with right? Cause if not, then no.

Although I can see how someone not of the Empire could see it that way, as there are a lot of Cultural nuances that combine into their anti-slavery stance.

Edit: I'm going to update your bonus tomorrow, as I have to sleep now and you may change some things around to make it Canon.
