Now go ask the fleet submarines and coastal submarines about their lack of dress.

Go for it, it'd be awesome!... I wonder if I should draw up a variant of my "Belated Battleships!Jersey", just drawn in 1940's appropriate ladies fashions (well, ok, she'd probably end up having a "Rosie the Riveter" vibe, but...)
I hope Lady Luck is on our side once Jersey gets launched, because if she came out as the beauty queen....
Thing is her armor hasn't been modified since she was launch so...Just remember that Iowa and her sisters are going to be brand new ships when launched. I think by this point in 1940, all 6 sisters have been ordered... though only Iowa and New Jersey have been laid down. The girls personalities in Kancolle are as much a product of their history during the war as their design, so there's certainly a lot of room here for artistic license (just look at Little E).
Also, regarding BB!Jersey, I thought that her dress was a result of her armor scheme as well as the relative effectiveness of said armor against weaponry. Since she lived through to the age of missiles, I viewed her "armor" became even more all-or-nothing. Do recall that all USN BB designs since the Nevada-class (BB-36) used the all-or-nothing scheme in principle.
BB!Jersey is also designed around MAXIMUM 80's !!!!! which obviously isn't a factor here. I was thinking all-or-nothing when I designed her though, it's why she's got so many layers over her chest, but then goes with short-shorts.Just remember that Iowa and her sisters are going to be brand new ships when launched. Right... but my point is that weaponry her armor was providing protection against got more effective over the course of her service. BB!Jersey is her form at the end of her service (after she's been refitted to deal with much different threats and has had much more seamen go through her).Thing is her armor hasn't been modified since she was launch so...

Iron's brain is pain right now. But Iron will review! Because Iron is daijoubu. And this story is awesome.
End of Arc 1. This was one hell of an ending! You've put together one heck of a ride for being the first arc. Really, really good job of setting up those Mothras (this is apparently a thing and I am okay with that).
And your characterizations are quite a treat. I will not rant and rave about how adorable and huggable your portrayal of Ari is, because we already know that Iron is rampant Ari fanboy and cannot be trusted with any incarnation of the lass. But still, I'm quite digging your cast and how they're doing with the situations they're in. Especially Thompson. How he's managed to hold together I can only attribute to a steel will and Sara's enduring presence at his side. How he'll hold it together in Washington? I can't even begin to fathom. That's a monster even without the bombshells he and Richardson are bringing. Can't wait!
I really, really wanted someone to give poor Arizona a hug in the first section. She sounded like she really needed it. Especially with Wilson's failing health now weighing on her shoulders. I'm really hoping Kidd can do something. Things just are not looking up for the girl.
And you did a really swell job with Bismark. I've always had mixed feelings about her depictions, both character and design, but I think I can more that warm up to her here. Now that she's got a bit more depth and more potential to be more than, kinda... generic. I dunno. But you've got a good start on her, especially with Schreiber's reveal. Another time traveller. Holy baloney, I did not see that coming. Can't wait to see more of them.
Damn fine job.
Character work is a lot of fun. And it is definitely working.I admit, I find it more fun to write the characters than the combat these days. This does show through in my other stories, but especially here where it's been almost entirely character work. Developing them all pretty much from scratch- since even the Japanese girls won't stick with canonical characterizations when they do pop up -is quite fun, I think. Good thing it's working.
I can just imagine her hull turning a shade towards red when a certain someone comes on board.
Yeah. She's been so smitten with Thompson and talking with those she already can that it kinda wound up sabotaging her efforts to make new contacts. But yeah, she's in a bit of a spot right now. Somewhat of her own making to be fair, since she hasn't tried as hard as the others to make some form of contact, but still. Poor girl needs someone around who can talk with her.
Aye. You've got a lot of good, raw material to work with.As for Bismarck...generic. Hm. I can see that. What few characterizations I've seen of her do tend to lean in that direction in some form or another. Not that the base game gives her a whole hell of a lot of characterization to begin with. But still.
At any rate, while I still don't like her design (seriously, put some form of skirt or pants on girl!) she's a fun character to work with. Especially since she's still developing her personality- remembering that Bisko hasn't even technically been finished yet.
To be frankly honest, I could not find any information on why Wash was sacrificed, but Weevee was spared.
