Changing Destiny (Kancolle)

Would have updated, but less than fun day.

So I'm playing around with new retro controllers (N64 and Gamecube) for my emulators instead. Will work more tomorrow. If I can fend my muse off from wanting to do an ABDA spin-off.
I know that feel, bro. I think a lot of people had one of those days today.

Have fun with the emulators. :D

ABDA spin off eh? It'd be nice to see the Dutch and Aussie girls (along with the old 4 stackers and Houston/Boise) to get a chance to shine.

[X] Italy

Because I really want to know why Andrea Doria would be in Malta.

An early armistice (possibly due to a time-traveler interfering) would probably have been mentioned or foreshadowed. A conquest of Malta in 1941-42... could maybe have been possible if the Germans hadn't launched Barbarossa.
Yeah. I think the Axis only had one large airborne operation left in them, so it was going to be Crete or Malta.

And Bomber Command, operating from Royal Air Force bases on Crete, can effectively reach the Romanian oil fields, which are vital to the Germans especially if they're going after the Soviet Union.

I don't see them going after Malta if there is a Barbarossa.

Sure, the Germans are going to push on Crete. But the Italians had their own paratroops, who were like the bersaglieri in being the elite formations in the Regio Esercito. The Italians also had enough transport planes that they could pull their own airborne operation on Malta, as long as they had naval assistance.

Well, that was an interresting read-through. I hope you liked my likebombing, Sky ;)

(I skimmed a lot of in-between chatter since it had a tendency to get repetetive, irrelevant and flame-y, but hopefully I won't bring up anything that's already been resolved once I start follow this in real time)
Sad thing is, I could quite easily make my own botegirl fandom (ala Sea Queens) if we're actually inclined to do it. I've got enough original stuff scattered in my KC fics.
*Tries puppy eyes. It's marginally effective at best*
I would literally pay for that.
I am currently extremely low on funds, but would still like to second this.

Welcome to the craziness! I suspect a lot of the thread chatter will pick up with wild guessing as what's going to happen next since the Japanese have just committed the strategic version of the Darwin Award by starting a war they cannot win.

I think Yamamoto, the consummate gambler that he was, would say the Japanese bet the house on drawing on an inside straight flush, and came up a bit short.

>A bit short

I'm pretty sure losing almost the entirety of your fleet, a not-insignificant chunk of your army, and watching two major cities go up in a mushroom cloud is more than a "bit short".

Incredibly, it could have been worse, if the Americans were in no mood to take Japan's surrender, and go ahead with Operation Downfall, including the 15 "Fat Man" bombs.

Well, it's like triage, we know alot of the IJN girls won't make it; the question is how many will actually see the end this time...

Now I want to see a Mikasa snippet after the end of the War.

Omake time!

20 August, 1945 8:00

It was a relatively intact surrounding where the museum ship IJN Mikasa looked around and observed the Gaijin Admiral in front of her. She may have been in poor shape, but at the very least she could keep a defiant stance as she steeled herself and glared at the Admiral as she limped her way over to him.

"Are you here to gloat about your country's victory, my countrymen's death... my daughters' sacrifices?"

She was naturally shocked as the Admiral responded with an apology, "I... I apologize for your loss"

"Apologies will not bring them back"

"They were my friends too...."

Pausing as she looked at the man in front of her, she noticed the haunted look in his eyes, but also the hidden strength underneath. Deciding to inquire about the man's history, she stepped toward the Admiral and looked him squarely in the eye.

"Who?"

"Akagi, Haruna, Hiei, Kongou, Kaga, Fubuki, Hibiki..."

And as the two conversed on the upper deck, two souls who have seen enough for a lifetime reminisced of friends and innocence lost.

The chances of survival for the Japanese warships are likely slimmer than OTL, depending on how thoroughly Pearl guts the Kidou Butai's air wing, for starters. As SisterJeanne said, the carriers are the most likely to die. As for everyone else... you may want to say goodbye to your waifus.

What's interesting to me is who dies and how.

And if Hibiki will be the only one of her sisters to live again. I wants to give her headpats.

Well, I mean Hosho might survive (again) because she's not a frontline combatant, possibly a few of the CVLs like Ryujo or Jun'yo. But the back of the navy will need to be broken and that means the Kido Butai will be on the bottom, probably along with most of the BBs and CAs.

That said, even with airwing losses at Pearl, sooner or later they will be just as seriously outnumbered and outgunned like in OTL 1944-45. What this might result in is that it's sooner before the USN is able to break Japan's temporary naval supremacy with more ships available and Japan starting in a weaker position on December 8th versus OTL.

While I work on hammering the next chapter together, have some cutes:

(It's the third anniversary for WSG. So lots of fanart and official art. This is the latter, and their artist has really improved over the last year)

As things are changed, it's possible that the battle of Leyte Gulf happens very differently, or not at all.

So, my Fusou-chan may not have to to sail up the Surigao Strait.

Unfortunately, and taking into account Japan's mentality of the time, I suspect it only means she will sink wastefully and dutifully somewhere else.

WHY FUSOU-CHAN WHY?

My only hope is that she's considered too obsolete to do anything and languishes in some naval base until the war is over. And then she will be scrapped to make Honda Civics.

[ ] Tick to point out that the Honda Civic was designed decades after the end of WW2.

None of the fleet carriers. Calling that now. They are the primary force that the USN has to smash to secure naval supremacy.
Depends on whether or not you consider Junyou a fleet carrier. She had the capacity of one but not the speed. She survived in the OTL (mainly since she was slow she stayed away from the main conflicts) to be scrapped in 1946.
