Changing Destiny (Kancolle)

Most of the populace can't see them (yet anyway), as they lack a suitably strong affection/connection to the ships. It would be a waste.

Adm. Stark: Sorry Shaw, but we don't have enough money to fix you quickly enough so that you don't scare the other admirals... again.
USS Shaw: *Tries to give teary eyes underneath the heavy scarf, coat, dress and hat combo*
Adm. Stark: ...here's some ice cream to dull the pain...

In before Shaw becomes the navy version of DC's unknown solider.
On that topic... Truth being stranger than fiction in most cases, can anyone else see the probability that at some point there will be at least one comic book produced putting the shipgirls in a more proactive role assisting their crews in combat? Most of the bigger Golden Age artists did do some work for the Defense Department, and it would be in line with a disinformation campaign, since nobody would take a comic book character seriously.

Hard to say but probably not immediately. As I said, word will leak out through rumor, but it will remain a rumor for a long time without actual proof, which the Department of the Navy would try to avoid having out there.

*insert annoyance with SB here*

*insert 'seriously, saying I have a stick up my ass just because I like Sara and history' here*

sigh

Anyway, if I have the time tomorrow (I won't know until I see what I'm doing at the school) I'll work a bit on the next chapter. No way to know when it will actually be done.

Take your time man, if it's worth being done, then it's worth taking time to make sure it's done right...

Oh, I agree that it's not going to happen immediately. For one thing, it will need an artist cleared for defense department secrets, and then they need to be able to see the girl or girls. Oddly enough, with what happened with Utah, she might find herself as an unlikely candidate for the title role, since she'll be the first shipgirl easily perceivable by normal people. It's quite possible that the comic won't gain approval until well after VE day, and maybe not until after Japan surrenders and the war's officially over.

Oh... Skywalker.... Sara will have her kai ni/mark 2 soon....

The regular K2 is the splinter camo, as I've been saying for months. Being as SV is blocked here (on mobile) someone else will have to post it.

And sara mark.2 mod 2 is a cvb....

More OP cvb for everyone... XD

Me and people like me being literally told to leave the fandom and make our own because we like history and it's a cheap waifu game fandom.

Now I've seen everything, SB.

As for Sara K2, she can evidently become an armored carrier. Jealous Vicky is jealous.

Sad thing is, I could quite easily make my own botegirl fandom (ala Sea Queens) if we're actually inclined to do it. I've got enough original stuff scattered in my KC fics.

To be fair, I think some of the people on SB signed up specifically because they liked the Chinese slang that in pinyin abbreviates to SB, slang which translates directly to "dumb (a certain word that is another word for vagina)" and felt that they resembled that label.

The rest of us SB-ers like to pretend they don't exist. Sometimes we issue Vlad Tepes awards though if they post VS debates...

Huh...so just caught up with this....well here's to the Imperial Japanese and their sense of godhood getting beaten to death and pissed on *sips rice wine**

For Pearl.

Hopefully not, i would love to see their precious superiority destroyed before their very eyes.

Oh, it's going to happen again. The war that they started is going to have the surrender terms dictated in Tokyo Bay versus the White House. America is not going to take this lying down, and Japan cannot match the resources at hand in the Pacific (again, remember that the historic WWII USN had more fleet carriers commissioned than the IJN had heavy cruisers ever launched). About the only way that this might possibly not result in an unconditional surrender is if Japan actually had the brains to write a declaration of war out and hand it to Cordell Hull well before Pearl harbor was hit. Since that is not the case judging from context about the AU Pearl Harbor, Japan's goose is now well and truly cooked.

Let me correct you.

We had more Essex-class aircraft carriers on order than the IJN had carriers of all types. EVER.

Very true. That statement also does not count the 9 Independence-class CVLs and 50 Casablanca-class CVEs that the USN launched during the war.

I remember reading an analysis of global military potential in 1941 which had the USA as #1 with a roughly equivalent share to #2 Germany, #3 Great Britain, #4 Russia and #5 France put together. Japan clocked in at #6 BTW

Let's count commissioned Japanese DDs in WWII:

21 Momi, -4 due to Momi, Kaya, Nashi and Warabi being scrapped or sunk beforehand, shoudl be considered
13 Minekaze
8 Wakatake
9 Kamikaze
12 Mutsuki
24 Fubuki/Ayanami/Akatsuki, -1 due to Miyuki's loss
6 Hatsuharu
10 Shiratsuyu
10 Asashio
18 Kagerou
1 Shimakaze
20 Yuugumo
16 Akizuki
18 Matsu
14 Tachibana (9 more planned)
Total 17 + 13 + 8 + 9 + 12 + 23 + 6 + 10 + 10 + 18 + 1 + 20 + 16 + 18 + 14 = 195 total destroyers in service, 204 planned.
If you count the Momi class being closer to corvettes (they were used as such) it's 178... and Matsu/Tachibana classes are much closer to Black Swans in displacement...

Meanwhile, the US produced:
2 Long Island
4 Avenger
45 Bogue
4 Sangamon
50 Casablanca
21 Commencement Bay (33 planned)
Total 126 (138 planned)

Of course, this was more than all Japanese ships bigger than destroyers, but then you add in the 11 light carriers (9 Independence and 2 Saipan) and... (Langley retired in early 1942)
2 Lexingtons
1 Ranger
3 Yorktowns
1 Wasp
24 Essex (32 planned)
3 Midway (laid down 1943)
Total 34 built in WWII, 42 planned

191 planned total aircraft carriers of all types for US, discounting seaplane tenders and such, compared to 204 Japanese destroyers

Hey, IF you count the Momi class as corvettes by this point, then the US had/had building more carriers in WWII than Japan had/had building destroyers.

EDIT: fixed forgetting to add the CVLs.

Even worse, there were as many Essex-class aircraft carriers commisioned (24) as the IJN had Fubuki class destroyers (24).
