Changing Destiny (Kancolle)

The Germans were attempting to deceive the Allies by making them think they had a larger force than they did. The Allied codebreakers, however, figured it out, because nobody orders a fuck load of wood for an ACTUAL air field. Course, the Allies did the same thing at Calais before Operation Overlord, but it worked for them, because they were better at OPSEC.

Still I bet the bomber crews were wondering why the hell their planes were loaded with pratitice bombs when they were going to bomb a German Airfield.

Okay, so the German wooden army is potentially false, but the US Army's isn't. In fact, Patton was 'in command.' A fact that Richardson will love explaining to Sara.

'Okay, so, get this. Patton, yes, that Patton, is going to be put in charge of a FAKE ARMY. No, seriously, Hollywood set designers are going to build a FAKE ARMY, with GEORGE S PATTON in command. And the Germans fall for it!'

to be fair, the US was about the only nation where the press had as much access and power as they had. Even in Britain a general doing the exact same deed as Patton wouldn't gotten any where near as much flak about it, to say nothing of the Heer.

His 'posting' was only partially a punishment. It was primarily a distraction from the REAL landing forces based close to Southampton and the Isle of Wight, primarily.

I just wish that the Butterflies actually make it so that Erwin Rommel doesn't commit suicide. Imagine what would have happened if Rommel had been in charge of Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein it likely would have worked like a charm. Then it really would have gotten ugly, because a fair amount of the Allied Forces would have been trapped in a massive encirclement.

Not really. He would have gotten the same orders, and probably ended up with the same results.

considering the entire plan required capturing allied resources that didn't exist and hoping for 2 months worth of bad weather...

Rommel was also lucky in that he was fighting British troops who also had to contend with a less than stable supply line.

And butterfly-wise, if Scheiber succeeds in getting the political capital to make life hot for Hitler in Germany, Rommel might not have be ambivalent compared to OTL, when/if the assassination plot goes down.

Heck one of the assassination plots would have worked, had someone not moved the bomb they were using.

honestly I think that might have been more wishful thinking on their part given the three possible successors.
The High Command didn't like Shouty McTwatburger, because he thought he knew better than them. The book Himmler's War, by Robert Conroy, is a decent 'what if.' Hitler is accidentally killed by a lost bomber simply dropping it's ordinance, so they could make it back home. Himmler takes office, cuts Goering out of the loop entirely, and things spiral from there. Of course, the Allies eventually win, but the drive across France was a lot more painful. But, for best results, use 'If The Allies Had Fallen.' Because, the authors used actual historical fact (gasp), documents, existing conditions, and documents for analyzing situations. For example, 'what if' Churchill had been killed in the Taxi incident. I like it because it has fifteen different authors, all with vastly different backgrounds of study, from economical, to military.
Who? I more focus on the combat side of WWII history and not the political side.
Himmler, Goering, and I forget the other. Goering was the 'official heir' to Germany, but everybody knew the lying, addicted, pompous PoS couldn't lead a Shit Trench Detail. He, after all, said, 'We don't need the Army to break through to Stalingrad. We can resupply them from the air.' And, his infamous 'no Allied bomb will ever land on Berlin.'

Thing is, Rommel is no stranger to having long or limited supply lines and being out numbered. Look what his Afrika Corps did to the British before they got their act together. He kicked them around pretty damn hard.

He kicked them around until the British got a commander who was actually decent at his job. As much credit as Auk gets for kick-starting the SAS, the man didn't know how to fight a modern war.

Himmler really wasn't much better than Goering and the inevitable infighting between the SS and the military...

and honestly if someone had bothered to knock some sense into Churchill when it can to the Med, Rommel never would have been a factor to begin with.

Didn't he also kick around the Americans hard at Kasserine Pass?
It wasn't exactly difficult. He used a tactic that most countries have been using for generations. Pretend to retreat, then fuck the chasing army up. Not only that, but they had FAR better equipment than the US did. They still expected the M2 to pierce tank armor.
