[X] Wait. STRATNET's assessment appears correct. You will hold, unless something goes seriously awry. You should do your best to not place your squadron in danger, the drones are quickly replaceable and expendable. Keeping your ability, or that of your Heavy Particle Projectors to make such long range attacks through terrain secret will be strategically significant in the medium term future.

As tempting as it is to tear into the antagonists from the reserve unit's holding point, waiting leaves Anna in a better position to react to any changes in the current situation as befits the commanding officer of the reserve unit.

I'm torn here. On the one hand what STRATNET is saying sounds logical, but that doesn't mean that it's right. It's not infallible and has made some serious errors in judgement before, as seen by this part.
"You- not just you. Why does the UN desire you on the front so? That machine, STRATNET, is always demanding you be placed right on the African front, at the Gates of Hell itself. The Type Zeroes there, they- they- You'll die. Or you'll be maimed until you can't even remember your past, your friends, who you were," you flinch, but Sandra continues, tear trails faintly shining down her face, "No Ace lasts longer than a quarter there without injury. That thing wants you there on permanent station."
Turned out that even from STRATNET's strictly utilitarian standards this was totally wrong and the UN was correct to not follow those suggestions. If they had they'd have thrown away major innovations and a sizable boost to their industrial growth. It's now shifted to considering Anna a precious resource to be protected and hidden likely at fairly extreme cost. Sure that's better, but after the last revelation I don't totally trust the program. It's pretty possible that it's being overprotective of her.

My main concern is whether the cadets would be at risk in a potential counter attack. If things went badly there it'd mess Anna's mental state up.

I actually think, on further consideration, that what is happening is not Friend Computer trying to protect Anna, but rather following a script that allows it to deploy under-age Aces without technically violating the letter of the UN regulations.

"It's not so simple," Sandra shakes her head decisively, "The Armed Forces can call an attack and move up all strategic reserves, including forces in Line three and up areas. Then upon the Antagonist counter attack, the reserves can then be called to the front to 'repel' the attack. The Pakistani armed forces used-"

After 10,000 years, an update!

As said by several others, Anna's skills are not needed at this specific moment. So standby it is, as Anna will be able to respond to Ant activity or anything "hinky" happening with Sandra.

Question: what the heck is with Shuri's limp? Shouldn't medical science/care for ace valkyries be advanced enough that such injuries are not only healable, but would never remain for long? What's with the whole "has good days and bad days" bit? What could possibly be wrong with her? Am I forgetting something?

I am willing to bet psychological damage, just like how we cant physically run.

Reminder that according to Avalanche the difference between Golden Ace (+1 Shuri) and Broken Ace (-1 Shuri) is that the former is never shot down, the latter is never shot down by AG.

And regarding that:
The Battalion 44 incident turns up nothing significant. Multiple hits on various 44th Battalions of the UN Armed Forces, but nothing that involves Shuri. Explicitly combining Shuri's name into the search ends up with the search daemon returning almost no results. As far as the public net knows, even for your level of classification, Shuri has never been involved with any battalions designated 44th in the army, whether it be the UN Armed Forces or Pakistani military.

Searching for any reorganisation of the UN Armed Forces on the 13th September 2069 yields similarly false positives. Various results for rotations of units off and onto the frontlines, some changes in naval patrol paths… a slight nudge from Durga alerts you to the fact that you were being back tracked.
What does those sound like?

Be more hillarious when the Stratnet quester initially wanted the top fighter at first before seeing the background info of Anna and seeing that she could so much more behind the lines.

She basically an arcology and logistic god sent for Stratnet.

And a basketcase of trauma incapable of Impeller group work (which is a major thing for group warfare, it seems?) until her issues are resolved. /shrug
All the more reason to not deploy her to the front, if she cannot actually be a part of the group spellcasting there.

Any system, be if computer or person, is inherently limited by it's inputs. Garbage In, Garbage Out exists for a reason. STRATNET had no reason to suspect Anna could easily pass on the Wave Force (no one else has ever shown the slightest sign of being able to use it) nor given any indication of her incredible builder capabilities (our gear can be put down to natural Valk equip evolution). So until recently there was no reason to suspect Anna was more valuable off the field. Which makes it's evaluation that allowing Anna to have a "normal" life at Perth Academy is sub-optimal perfectly understandable.

I actually think, on further consideration, that what is happening is not Friend Computer trying to protect Anna, but rather following a script that allows it to deploy under-age Aces without technically violating the letter of the UN regulations.
The UN doesn't have to play games like the Pakistanis did to get around underage laws. They straight up have an exception for the rules:

The message is directed at combat eligible Valkyrie cadets only. You are aware the Third year cadets all qualify, but you are quite sure that you don't. Not yet at least. A dig through your service details reveals that you are apparently under a 'Section 55 exemption'. That exemption is applied where if the birthdate of a person could not be officially confirmed to 'legal satisfaction', protections usually afforded by their age may be waived.

That's interesting. So you can apply for frontline combat positions right as of right now?
and it "just so happens" to apply to every underage Ace at Perth (and presumably the other academies):
A search reveals that Shuri is also under a Section 55 exemption, due to her circumstances of birth being unknown. As is Zoe Hermann, the other First Year Ace, the records of the hospital she was born at having been lost. In fact… every single Ace ranked cadet in the first and second years at Perth are under Section 55 exemptions, all their birth records apparently having been lost or not up to legal standard.

That's interesting.

You're… conflicted about this, a little at least. It's clear that some section of the UN Armed Forces are trying their best to circumvent the laws set in place by the UN Central Government, but is that necessarily a bad thing? You think about your fellow Aces in the First year, Shuri can easily handle herself against almost all Antagonist units and the two of you on a battlefield would undoubtedly reduce casualties suffered, but you're unsure about Zoe. The third first year Ace always performed modestly without too much flash in the records of her on the network. Would you allow them to fight? Was it fair that third year cadets could be called to the battlefield regardless of skill, yet just because you're a few years younger in age you could not be?

[X] Engage. STRATNET's assessment appears correct, however the possibility of a the Antagonists counterattacking your position with long range teleports is remote, and easily intercepted by your Interdiction unless the Antagonists use an exorbitant volume of Higgs. The risk you and your squadron will bear is minimal compared to the potential lives saved by your attacks at the Antagonist formations. Revealing your ability to attack at extreme ranges through obstructions to the Antagonists is not consequential in the short term.

Holy shit I have missed this Quest. This was nice to read.

Maybe it was mentioned, but it seems there's no longer a 100m absolute limit to impeller range, Anna had to extend tendrils from her suit during the rebuilding to go beyond it. Not a complaint, but it was interesting.

Anna cheats by being able to make her components into mist particulate. For everyone else, 100m is the limit as their components are a bit bulkier than...well, "mist."

I see on here people suggesting terribly lewd synchronization fields with CokeZero? Please. Only our most emotionally sensitive friend and confidant would be able to help us feel comfortable enough to hold-
I mean! Shake! Shake Hands! Shake hands without destroying the hands! That's good!

I think one thing some people are misunderstood STRATNET's rational a little bit here. A few people have expressed skepticism at STRATNET going from "off to Africa to kill 6 billion Antags" to "must protect asset to worldwide infrastructure," but I dont think that's what's really going on. It seems to me like it's just saying that in such a low risk scenario, there's no real reason to have Anna make a surprise attack right off the bat. It would potentially reveal classified information for very little benefit.

I think the WAIT option is really good because it makes the compromise of listening to STRATNET's advice while leaving Anna in a position to make further decisions as the human element in the scenario.
