That takes it in the other direction, though. Instead of Valkyries have extra political power because they take it by force, maybe they have extra political power because the world gives it to them willingly.

"You want your vote to count for as much as the vote of a Valkyrie? Stop talking crazy man! Each one of them saves a million people; they should each get a million votes!"

If a Valkyrie runs against a non-Valkyrie for office, is the non-Valk going to win? They can easily end up in charge that way too.
Fool! You thought that I bothered to remember literally any of the geopolitics dictated by the UN so I could give an insightful answer but I was pulling shit out of my ass all along!

Anyway, I don't think it would work that way. I've been saying—since the start, goddamnit!—that Valks would get a lot of clout because the populace would like them. It's hard not to like people who give you food and time to do whatever the fuck you want (all that stuff that implies it's a post-scarcity economy). Especially during war. Not sure how you got the idea they get political clout from forcing the populace into anything.

Really, the people probably are as content as they are because of everything the Valks did for them. As we saw in the last few updates, Valks build the towns (well, when the drones are busy with the Yawning Void, at least), Valks are a prerequisite for Arcologies, Valks keep them safe from biomechanical enemies that are literally called "enemies of all mankind," etc.

So they've got a lot going for them in a peaceful manner. I thought I could explain this in one post and not bother myself with thinking like a sociopath (because politics is a business in which sociopathy1 thrives). How foolish I was from the start!

Garner's Modern English Usage said:
psychopath; sociopath; antisocial personality; antisocial, n. The term psychopath is no longer common in clinical use among psychiatrists and psychologists because of the word's pejorative associations. The disparaging clipped form psycho undoubtedly contributed to the need for a shifting of vocabulary.

Instead, sociopath or antisocial personality—and the corresponding terms sociopathy /so-see-ahp-ә-thee/ and antisocial personality disorder—are now the generally accepted nomenclature among specialists. Not all sociopaths commit heinous crimes; indeed, many enter the professions and make a steady living (though not a good life). A sociopath is essentially someone who (1) is a pathological liar and misleader; (2) has a minimal investment in moral values; (3) has no conscience—i.e., feels no remorse for harm caused to others; (4) has little or no regard for others' rights, safety, and property; (5) is often angry or hostile; (6) exhibits callousness toward others' feelings; (7) tends to defend shortcomings or failures by going on the offensive against others; (8) tries to manipulate others' emotions; and (9) tends to act impulsively, without regard for the consequences. See Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual 601 (2006). One study, Martha Stout's The Sociopath Next Door (2005), reports that 4% of the population is afflicted with antisocial personality disorder—more men than women.

Often antisocial personality is shortened to antisocial—e.g.: "[With] the covetous antisocial . . . , aggrandizement, the desire to possess and dominate, is seen in a distilled form: These individuals feel that life has not given them 'their due'; they have been deprived of their rightful amount of love, support, or material reward; and others have received more than their share." Theodore Millon et al., Personality Disorders in Modern Life 158 (2d ed. 2004).

Although psychopath and sociopath are generally thought to be interchangeable with antisocial, some writers suggest a distinction: "[O]ne often used distinction between psychopath and sociopath is the user's belief in the origins of the disorder. Psychopaths are believed to possess some constitutional disposition to the syndrome. In contrast, sociopaths are biologically normal, but develop antisocial characteristics through incompetent or hostile socialization, mainly defective parenting." Ibid. at 153.
Sounds familiar? :V

Only read about one tenth of the topic, but I had to do a fanart because reasons.
So here's Sandra (Btw that's a quite odd color scheme for a "white knight")
I like how different this is from the art we have of Durga. Durga is very obviously a coherent, brooding hypertech death machine, accurate for a piece of kit with more refinement and application time than anything else on the planet, while Sandra's armor looks like it was cobbled together from whatever was around at the time and just kind of slapped together, which is again perfectly accurate given that she's only had it for a little bit. Everything, except maybe the halberd, is clearly cobbled together from existing tech - the cannons have muzzle brakes on them that'd exhaust straight into Sandra's face, the thrusters are cold and slow and dirty and are basically just jet engines attached with duct tape, the segments on the armor fit together well but they're still segments, even the art itself has kind of a stylized grunge to it with the heavy irregular black outlines.

Good art.

Really? I liked how she can't move her arms to much and fire missiles.:V:V:V

Yep, the body armor really looks like more advanced plates could be added later. I mean, the knees look like you could simply clip something on it. Though it looks a bit dieselpunk (reactors and exhausts) than I'd have imagined it.

Damn that's some really great stuff. A very industrial design for the frame, remind me a lot of the first versions of the Ironman suit in the movies. Bit more dieselpunk than I picture them to be, but from your thread, this looks like your speciality. Great work dude.

An amusing note; I linked this pic over discord, but when zoomed out, it looks like Sandra is flashing her inner thighs. Very harem mechamusume :V good effort representing the genre accurately :D

Man I have a whole bunch of great artists doing nice things for my quest for free.

1. Your face has changed again
2. I think your :ogles: is :eyeroll: childish.
Haha shit now that you mention it (and that I'm on my phone and not a big screen) it indeed looks like she's flashing. Not intended but eh.
Ha. I just realized that she's not flashing her inner thighs. That's what I get for looking at pictures on my phone.
To many black stripes for me to think its not clothing, but details are miss-able I guess.

Exactly how much planning did you do before starting BAHHSCQ, @Avalanche? Were there fleshed-out plans for all -5 through +5? Was, say, Instructor Mom already planned as a character? Did you know how she'd act in a -3 as opposed to a +1?

HOW MUCH OF IT WAS YOUR GRAND PLAN???

*notices Avalanche's status*

Huh, LA breach is now in Portland....
I feel like there should be two Type-0s arguing over what to do with their cream cheese Higgs stockpile. Do they transfer it to the frontline to open new Breach(es) or send it over to Africa to help along a new Major Breach? It didn't help that one of them keep dipping their hand in the Higgs storage as well.
