Christmas came early.

But yeah, this was worth the wait. Maybe the anime episode will be split, half of it on Coke-Zero and the other will be on Anna and Sandra. While the two train, they can show the other two building stuff(I pity Shuri though, she only got a few scenes. Maybe she's helping Koujirou?).

The episode probably edit out the part when Anna says she's the Rank 1 and probably do a cut away at the part when Sandra questioned why? Hammering that this isn't going to be the typical Musou series.

You know? I think we are approaching the reveal of Anna being No.1 when talking to Sandra the wrong way.

Maybe in some later episode, Sandra will be the one to reveal that information in a flashback scene when Anna takes a suicidal move for anyone else.

Actually, I wonder if the episode featured the Wave-Force No-Colour bang. Like, Koujirou is doing something, then everything suddenly washes out and a big bang is heard. Then he gets told Classified Information. It also adds foreshadowing, for when Anna is inevitably forced to use it, and it is reveals that this is the Super Move she was talking about.

Your plates are no longer a pure, cold black, which is a side effect of your Solar Dynamos capturing all the electromagnetic light that landed on you. Now, there is a faint oily iridescence about the edges of the plates, light being distorted around your silhouette by your Energy Dynamos. With this, attacks of a low enough power density will be ignored by your Impeller and absorbed by your Dynamos instead, adding to your energy reserves. The component is not as important to you as it was previously, with how advanced your ability to convert energy and mass is, now, and your fusion reactor, but you will take every single shred of Impeller you can save.

As far as you can tell, the amount of matter is equal to what you collected for this experiment. You may have just managed a one hundred percent conversion efficiency.

My plot senses are tingling.
However… a quick review of previously done work demonstrates a huge discrepancy of currently committed construction forces with those the economic power the UN has historically demonstrated. Even accounting for losses, the UN is short of at least a quarter of its construction capacity. Despite careful scouring, you can't appear to find those missing assets. Also, in spite of materials production increasing steadily, the relative lack of active construction has not resulted in a corresponding surplus of materials. As far as you can tell, the materials are simply missing.
You see, I originally thought they were building something shady on the abandoned frontline, but then the moon came up.

… In my defense, the UN is a shit tier organization when it comes to voting on an issue IRL due to only 5 countries actually being the ones that matter (you know, their ability to just veto whatever the fuck they want), the rest just look pretty. Everyone knows that organizations with shady rules are actually the Big Bad of the setting.

You get to work, taking the piping closest to the desalination plant into your storage as you construct pipes with your Impeller to replace them. You quickly set into place the new piping, taking particular care on the construction of the piping for the new housing that you will be building to ensure there is enough capacity in the network for the expansion. The major arteries of plumbing complete, you start returning the water back into the proper plumbing system when you pause. There are people playing with your Impeller, children clamber over the invisible pipes, balancing on them and hanging off them like monkey bars, marvelling at the water apparently flowing through thin air then plunging back into the ground. Adults too are taken in by the sight, more than a few outside of their houses staring in bemusement as water seems to just floats through the air to directly enter their household plumbing, whereas the last time they looked a hose had been connected to the port.

I understand people want to keep Anna safe, but I don't understand why, if they reject performing commentary, they vote for watching anyway. If commentary is going to traumatising, then watching is going to as well. Therefore, if we're watching, we should also be commenting.
That's fucking stupid logic. Anna has extensively shown her total ineptitude at small talk, commentary, instructions, et caetera. Saying that watching is the same as commenting is wrong in this scenario.

Fuck, this actually updated. YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to much to say for the training parts, but the Sandra mission was very interesting.
"It'll be fine," you assure Sandra, "I alone can finish the work required in Seosan town in three days or less."
Yup, she's definitely had plenty of experience with this type of work.
Your range expands until you are encompassing the entire town.
O.O... Wow.
You gently lift the little ones off your Impeller pipes as you dissolve them, making sure that none of them fall.
Aw...
By now people have spotted you, there are are people pointing up at you and waving. A few jump up and down, cheering, mostly the children.

… You haven't really done anything yet. You hesitantly wave back in greeting. There is a fresh outburst of noise below as the children laugh and wave even harder. You again reply and for the next few minutes, you are stuck in a loop of waving back until the children tire of it and simply sit around, apparently waiting for you to do something else.
This is nice, isn't Anna?
You assemble a few houses inside your storage,

… A bout of dizziness hits you, memories, unwanted, rush to the fore of your mind-

"I'll continue working. We can complete work by midnight tonight."

"Anna…" Sandra trails off.
Aw fuck...
"You won't be. You'd never refuse a request to engage in battle and they- the other Valkyries might care about you, but that machine, STRATNET, it won't," Sandra leans forward, tone almost pleading, "You'll be deprived. Deprived of your humanity. Of your freedoms. Living a life set and regimented by others."

"I'm not here to-" your word stick in your throat, -run away, Anna. Do other, normal things. Live a childhood that I never could give you. Live on and be happy, please. You understand me right? You've always protected her. Will you remind her?-

I was conflicted about the secondary vote, and this seems the best compromise. On the one hand, Anna's unique and utterly cracked perspective will probably be very educational for the rest of the students (and possibly some of the faculty). Even the likelihood of her triggering on the 'never hurt humans' thing might not be bad, since in a highly competitive environment like this it would be a good idea to remind everyone that tournament opponents aren't the real enemy. It also keeps us MC relevant, which is good. On the other, snapping in front of the entire student body wouldn't be a good idea, and Anna is bad at explaining so she might not be great at the job. We've (sort of) flown under the radar for a while now, so even if we can do a good job commentating, broadcasting exactly how much we can really see and how experienced we are may not be the wisest course.

I think that with another experienced commentator on hand to keep us grounded and help us find words for anything we're stumbling on we'd probably do a pretty good job though. One of our objectives is to get people ready for war and that applies to everyone, not just our team. If there is a chance our experience can help, we should share it. Plus it's never a bad idea to turn down a chance to insert ourselves into the MC's story arc, and being the character explaining all the super-techniques when the animators need to pad out the action is as good a role as any. If we trigger during one of our squadron's fights and go nuts, well, that means we get to steal the MC's thunder and hopefully become even more interesting/relevant. Spin-off here we come!

@Avalanche since Anna can do matter to energy conversion, can she charge up her batteries/capacitors whenever there's a moment she doesn't need all of her Impeller layers?
I'm afraid I don't understand. If she can do perfect conversion of matter to energy, why not use the surrounding area and not her source of ultimate dakka?

No, I'm saying that if people are worried about her flipping out from the fights, then watching the fights is not the way to go. Yet if they don't think watching will trigger a freak-out, then there should be no issue with commenting either.

Edit: I have no idea if I'm being coherent, to be honest. I'm majorly sleep deprived currently.

Guys, what happened with Langston was a gigantic warning sign, as well as some things that happened before in the class exercises.

For the sake of our friends in the squadron, we have got to moderate our PTSD or risk doing something we will regret during the matches. So, we have got to start healing by doing exercises with the instructors.

I basically agree with you, but I feel that Anna would feel compelled to watch because she'll think "what if something happens and I'm not there?"

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

And my point is that that part is irrelevant, because she's not fit at all to make amusing commentary.

As for her freaking out... I doubt it. Anna's getting better at distinguishing things when not under time limits and Higgs. Remember how Higgs triggered her this chapter?

Yeah, I sincerely doubt a cadet can do shit with it, even if they have it. Even the Instructors said that it's complicated (using Higgs as a substitute to negative energy manipulation? Groans all around).

You know, I wonder if people realise that there's a big difference from the other situations: she's observing, and not under pressure in a (pseudo-)combat situation.

It's a Monday, and the tournament is going on. Why would the Instructors be free? And your solution to help with the PTSD is...to do something that triggers it. *claps*

"Why- why do you want to- fight so much?" Sandra finally chokes out, her face scrunching in anguish, eyes glimmering in the moonlight, too upset to continue using comms, "I have always, always been trained to look at the greater picture, but- but I don't want my friends to die."

You rock back on your heels in shock as you watch Sandra's composure crumble.

"It was you? You're the new Rank One? Then- Sekhmet?" Sandra whispers.

You nod.

Sandra stares, then, softly, hesitantly, hopefully, "Saskatoon?"

You nod again.

Sandra sits down.

"I… see."

There is a long and contemplative silence. The peaceful moment is eroded however as you hear the rising sounds of Castiglioni and Hasiholan in the distance arguing again. The crafting class members apparently simply unable to help themselves.

Annoyed at the intrusion, you thicken your Impeller and mute them.

So...I take it that everyone on that hill heard what was said, since the other cadets were a significant distance away and yet Castiglioni and Hasiholan apparently heard what Anna said.

Uhhhhh. Not sure how well that would work.

Anna: Red team cadet executes an excellent shift and ambush, which is appalling because we must never attack humans. Blue team cadet responds with a fantastic thruster burn and counterattack with melee halberd. Which is horrific, because we must never attack humans.

The venturing part is why I voted to watch it from the sidelines--to get her used to the idea of not fighting when seeing a fight. See also stopping Setsuna whenever she tried to attack MC.

A fair point, actually, but there's a difference between freaking out, and freaking out in front of the entire school in a very public and heavily recorded setting. If we're only watching, we can walk away if we start to trigger and most people won't notice. If we're commentating...

In terms of stress to Anna, watching will likely be the same as commentating. In terms of external problems caused, I agree with @Bludflag that there's a difference, but I'm not sure it's such a negative one.

That's what I'm thinking she'll be doing. Any comedy will be unintentional.
Agreed. Witness how easily and effectively she judges Setsuna's progress with her fields, even if she totally missed what they were really talking about. She can sort out people's gear, their mechanical capabilities, and tactics without effort, and would likely be able to share such knowledge easily as well. It's when things move into the area of Impeller nonsense that it gets hard for her to explain, and with this batch of low-level cadets, we shouldn't be seeing much of that.

Guys, what happened with Langston was a gigantic warning sign, as well as some things that happened before in the class exercises.

For the sake of our friends in the squadron, we have got to moderate our PTSD or risk doing something during the matches. So, we have got to start healing by doing exercises with the instructors.

The options we picked during the timeskip, while strategically invaluable and also good for personal development, took us away from the MC. Remember: we are a supporting character in someone else's story. For right now the MC is where the 'true' action is, so we need to make sure we stay connected to that. To get a spinoff of our own we'll need to be interesting and independent enough to deserve it, and most of our actions during the timeskip were great for that. Time to plug ourselves back into the 'plot' and sponge off that sweet, sweet MC spotlight. If we crash and burn, so what? Failure will result in either humor or drama, both of which will make us more interesting and relevant. In terms of our quest to be the best waifu, the only wrong course of action is one that keeps us in the background.

PTSD is a valid concern, but in terms of overall objective, I think we may actually want to stay broken for now. Broken people are interesting and need a nice, helpful hero to fix them. A hero like the MC. Once he gets us on the road to repair, we can start actively working to solve our PTSD and all will be well. For now, with the many people around us and the various safeties in place the current risk of collateral damage is very minor, so I think we'll be fine.

Awesome update!

Despite the address of the initial mission offer from the UNHCR under Sandra's name, it's clear whatever actual criteria it was sent under did include Shuri or Zoe, despite both the other two eligible for the same section fifty five exception you have.
Should it be did not include, instead?

"It's not so simply," Sandra shakes her head decisively, "The Armed Forces can call an attack and move up all strategic reserves, including forces in Line three and up areas. Then upon the Antagonist counter attack, the reserves can then be called to the front to 'repel' the attack. The Pakistani armed forces used-"

Guess that's what happened to Shuri.
