As quest bad ends go, "you go on to live a content life writing research treatise for the UN in quiet rooms, which is nowhere interesting enough to remain part of the anime," doesn't sound so terrible.

Not really going anywhere with this, just saying.

Yeah, at this point? I'm in the quest to get Anna a happy life, full of value to her. Whatever that winds up being, is what I'm here for. If that's not interesting enough on a meta level for it's own spinoff, I'd be amazed. There're plenty of shows like that, after all. But I'm not really thinking in terms of the meta level, because thinking in terms of the character perspective is far more engaging- and will result in the meta completion anyhow.

I'm in the Quest to steer her towards overwhelming, planet shattering power and the worship of humanity as the Avatar of a Vengeful God.

*Taps quester hat*

Nothing too unusual.

I have a theory about who the bold text is. I think the bold text is Anna. Specifically it's thoughts that are influenced by Durga before they're influenced. For example,
You almost instinctively refuse. You could protect your friends this time, this time, you will.

-teach them to take care of themselves-
In this segment I think the bold is Anna's original thought and the italics is Durga's change. We see this again in the latest update when Anna's complete rejection of the idea of turning her systems back on is overridden by Durga. Durga even goes so far as to abandon subtlety and tell Anna it will be alright, prompting Anna to think Durga is lying, before again having the thought interrupted by Durga.

That makes a lot of sense.

Well, I'm going to have to go reread the bold text sections with that in mind, now. As if I needed the excuse to reread this quest.

would that mean that the machine is actually the voice of reason in their partnership? the ai trying to stop the bloodthirsty human from slaughtering the antagonists in droves?

Not really, It just means Anna is actually a bit more traumatized than shown. Many of the bolded sections don't even have to do with combat. For example:
If only back then too, that there were so many, that there were any, whom you could have relied upon…
In this line Anna's rather depressing thought that there wasn't anyone she could rely on becomes the slightly more upbeat, "there weren't as many she could rely on".

One of the areas Durga seems to show the most activity is helping Anna not focus so much on combat and beating everything on her own. However, her trauma extends past a simple focus on combat, if anything the combat is coping mechanism, and Durga tries to help her deal with her other issues as well.

More than that, the name of the character archetype we picked at the start of the quest was "Monster". How could that aggressive focus on beating the world on her own be anything but Anna herself?

While I like the implication, Anna should ideally hide in Durga's hammerspace full-time to take full advantage of its healing space magics. Cue Durga, Perth Valkyrie Student. Since she has failed to do this, Durga is sadly limited in its enhancing power.
that would be a -4 world, I think.

That moment when this is the crowning moment of heartwarming in the -5 world, because it's what actually happened to her body.

Now you want plot twists there's your plot twist.

And then they make friends with Durga only to on day lose 'her' or it to Anna when she finally comes out of her shell.
