Everybody... I think I know who "Durga" is.

So Anna started out as a pretty normal girl, who then had an "augment everything as needed, especially as needed to be good at combat" machine strapped onto her for a Really Long Time, and then pushed herself through some seriously psychologically traumatizing stuff, where she needed to keep going - needed to keep fighting, and simply did not have time to cry. If you're a good "augment everything as necessary" machine, even if you're not sentient yourself, you'll borrow some of those cycles from your host to understand what she needs better, and then you'll rewrite her psychologically as well as physically. The two of them got to be pretty good at this, and fused - each offloading processing onto the other seamlessly as necessary/useful. Then, suddenly, they hit an OOCP. Suddenly, Anna needed to have skills at Social, as well as skills at Kill Kill Kill Kill Kill. So what do you do? After all, the enemy is still out there, and you probably *will* have to fight again later - possibly in situations that are just as bad.

Well, you build a secondary personality. You clone the Anna that you have, you edit the memories a bit, you tweak thing here, you tweak things there, and then you hand it control over the body and watch it run.

"Durga" is Anna's original personality. The girl we're playing is really just an Anna emulator running with somewhat reduced privs and heavy oversight in the hopes of growing something that can act like a human being again.

Why?
Anna has the biggatons now and it doesn't make her the main character, her strength doesn't even make her happy. Being surpassed by Koujirou wouldn't make her doubt herself for not having the most power. Anna might even be pleased if Koujirou becomes powerful because that means she has protected him with her knowledge.

Also we won't capture the heart of our viewers with power alone. Each new season or episode threatens the throne of "Most Strongest". We need to be cared about because we're "Anna", not because we are the best.

Yep. It's not matter what you have, but how (and why) you use it.

This is why I was playing with tropes some pages ago. The way I read the quest, we are on first or second anime episode. MC is not defined yet. He does not have set roly trope in story. As such, Anna can become what he currently is not. You know anime - there is almost always only one character with given 'role' in a setting. Single clueless moron. Single comic relief. Single traumatic past. Single childhood friend. Single resolve that shakes the earth. Single rule-breaking plot-relevant superweapom. Etc.

Rokusabe is 'destined' to get some of those tropes. You know: "I will protect you, for my heart is pure and my lust is strong". Once that happens, then he is set. Everyone loves to see underdog win agains superior foe, when fighting for his female companions. So he will be given tools to do exactly that. And all his companions will be forced into situation that require his help. When that happens we "lose points".

So how can we make it not happen? By conflicting it with already set 'tropes'. Let's take Anna. She wants to protect her squad. Imagine for the moment, that set her mind on the fact, that offence is best defence. That her teammates WILL die eventually, if they enter the battle. Imagine that she resolves to something about it herself. Here and now. Before her companions have to fight the enemy. That she bends all her will, her mind and soul to grow stronger, strong enough to enter the Breaches and destroy them, as she did once in the past. That she will is stonily resolved to take any opportunity and all risk to make it happen...

How would you expect anime to go, then? In this scenario Anna is the underdog. She works on the clock, under heavy handicap and no lesser pressure, to protect her companions - with failure defined as companions entering the battlefield. And everyone lover to see underdog win agains superior foe, when fighting for his or her companions. It makes Anna primary character. She struggles, and anime is defined be struggle.

The same with tragic past. Usually tragic past of secondary character is treated as a flaw, swiftly cured by main character. I.e: faced with impossible situation MC exclaims: "We will protect them, You will see!" when SC goes "I believe in you!" no matter how idiotic it is, then MC pulls his trusty superweapon and with power of lust, er... will, they saves them. Then tragic past trauma of SC is gone, world is made brighter, and SC have one more reason to love MC.

How to prevent that? By making a 'cure' of past trauma to conflict with existing trope. Again the 'struggle' thing. If Anna works to move past her trauma, struggle to be something more, to reconnect with people, then 'trauma' cannot be cured. If at the same time, it is the source of her resolve, her driving force, than is promised to be fulfilled only once all Antagonists are dead - then trauma stays. Anna struggles under heavy handicap - and everyone loves to see the underdog win.

...ranting again. Gonna stop. :)

Actually we're on the 8th/9th.

Episode 9 (15) Friday friday, gotta get down on friday.

EDIT: This is my 666th message on SV, episode 6 might be about to start, Anna started with 6 character relevance, illuminati confirmed.

A little bit of speculation that I probably spent way too much time reworking, anyway this is enough speculation for now, goodnight.
[Confirm final smoothing of the Breach tunnel. The Hive superstructure is exposed. No Higgs reactions detected. Fairbanks Hive is gone for good.]
So anyone got any ideas how the Antagonists would use Higgs particles to avert a Hive being gone for good?
[First time in six years, what a turnaround.]
Looking at the QM post on the early war, the 300 Frames appeared around 2062 which is around when the Uralsk, Moscow, and the Elazig breaches were destroyed(going by the fluff for their historic scenarios) leaving only the minor breach in africa, so I suppose a date for the destruction of that Hive is good to know.
A message pings across the flight. Recognising the encryption format of the message, you decrypt it.
-UNNECOM to all: Saskatoon Breach has been destroyed. AG forces pulling back from all northern sectors and shifting south. All reserves prepare for immediate advance on Los Angeles Breach.-

It was a STRATNET broadcast to all UN units participating in the Alaskan Offensive, urgent priority.

>>UNNECOM to all: Saskatoon Breach has been destroyed. Antagonist forces pulling back from all northern sectors and shifting south. All reserves prepare for immediate advance on Los Angeles Breach.

The message felt… familiar.
I distinctly recall Anna's first encounter with UN forces ending with her incapacitation due to their high density, high bandwidth traffic thereby preventing her from doing something she'd regret. So unless Anna's encounter at the town wasn't her first one I'm not seeing how this would be familiar.
[Holy shit, we found Type Zero Sekhmet!]

"Anna-"

"Sandra wait. Stay away from her."

-No one was saved, and to their graves, perished and dead. All on my head.-

"Anna c'mon, we gotta hurry to make the nav marker times."

Hurry?

You were late.

-You're late-

Ah.

-Don't look back honey. I love you-

"Anna…-"

"In position. Proceed."

You pull in with the rest of the flight, mute your comm channels, and you scream and scream and scream and scream and scream and scream and scream.
The entity in bold font blames herself entirely for the death of the town people because she was late, but it gets more interesting when you take into account that on Anna's character sheet " The attacks ceased." proceeds "You were late", so it reasonable to conclude that the Antagonists didn't kill the remaining townspeople.

Now "You're late" is a statement from the first update made by Anna in response to the UNAF attempts at communication whereupon Anna snaps, but avoids doing something she'd regret due to the high density, high bandwidth of UN traffic briefly knocking her out.

Yet what if in that brief moment Ana fatally wounds one of the Valkyries nearby which is entirely reasonable given what we've seen this leads into the flashback Anna had when Koujirou was injured with the end result being Anna uploading her consciousness into Durga's core, and piecing together a functional human body for the mostly dead Valkyrie. This would explain why Anna doesn't remember talking with Durga while Anna does have memories of doing so, how Anna is familiar with the message from UNNECOM, and why Anna was noted to be shrinking(Anna was significantly larger than Anna).

This presumably means the latest memory belongs to the Valkyrie Anna saved who assumed the persona(?) of Anna either due to Anna using party of her brain to repair the damage, or as a means of mentally dealing with the trauma, the latter of which would explain the screaming at the end of Anna's pov.

Anna usually veered between two extremes, either displaying her emotions very openly with the occasional comical exaggeration, or a blank intensity that was nearly inhuman. Sandra wasn't sure how to read the other girl, but Anna had seemed completely unruffled at scenarios listed through the simulator. Sandra had already been wary of entering the scenario based on Yukari's reaction, but the older girl had seemed to relax once they entered the scenario, seeming more comfortable in the drilled routine of flight.

That was in complete contrast to Anna.

Anna's eyes, just visible through the small eyeholes of her polarised visor, appeared impassive, but her frame writhed. Its malleable surface almost seemed to vibrate and shudder, and her weapons, all of them expressed to their full autonomous states, shifted forms and bearing erratically.

Pointing northeast, then back forwards, then northeast again.
I'd say the former extreme occurs when Anna is mostly in charge, while the latter occurs when the combat instincts from Anna come into play, in hindsight the "All you need is kill.", option from update 14 is probably Anna assuming control. I'd expect the impassive appearance is due to Anna being more used to expressing emotion through her Frame than her body., with Anna copying the trait.
Speaking of strong and steady… behind the main group, Anna was… being Anna. She flew above Shuri's wake, somehow keeping up with the speed of the flight despite hardly leaving a visible trail. Anna also seemed completely oblivious to the unnecessary strain she was placing on her Impeller Field that she could have avoided by dipping a hundred or so meters lower.
Anna is totally unaware to the strain due to Anna being more than able to make up for Anna's inefficient positioning.
Setsuna felt a slight sense of longing mixed with jealousy as she looked on at the two Aces. The sheer power that they displayed by so casually cutting through the wind and water. Different from the chaotic display of aerial prowess shown by Anna yesterday night, where chance and luck could be blamed for at least some of what happened; this was a silent affirmation of skill and strength by both Aces.

Unshakable.
Ah Setsuna if only you knew how wrong you are.
Yukari looked solemnly over the landscape.

Black oceans. Burning clouds. The red glow of the false dawn on the horizon.

Exactly as she remembered.

All but real.

"Everyone, I'm finally here…"
Well at least Yukari benefited from this historic scenario, also this really isn't helping me discredit my crack theory that the primary difference between -1 and +1 back-stories is that humanity only won by virtue of the named character hijacking the means by which the Antagonists use Higgs particles to form a time-loop whereas +1 back-story, humanity didn't need a hero to win, just the 300 Frames which might capable of tagging along for thereby using the Antagonists cheats as even more time to refine their equipment.
This sim was different.

This actually happened.

This could happen again.
Emphasis is mine, and hopefully the Antagonists can't use Higgs particles to time-travel because that would make the plot a headache to work out the details, but would explain our QM's statement about many of the backstory points never seeing the light of day.
…Bloody hell that's a lot of missiles. It wouldn't even be all of them, as the other cruise missiles would be flying out of sight over the horizon to the Flight. Then again, the UN was pretty much shelling the entire western half of North America.
Well I suppose UN forces accidentally bombing the town, and/or dooming the survivors due to fallout would explain Anna's issue with any friendly fire, along with why her weapons were constantly shifting north east how Anna was late.
Yukari flew next to Koujirou, the pair having eliminated the two other Dragonflies. Two halves of a Type Five fall away from Shuri, the Ace breaking apart her melee halberd back into its component parts. The other Type Five-

What the actual hell was Anna doing?

Anna's frame was faintly glowing, its underlayers distorted and warped, flowing out from under the black plates and enveloping the destroyed Type Five. The whole frame was pulsing, its surface rippling as if it was an... organ... Guts.

It was like… it was like Anna was trying to eat the Type Five.
That explains where Anna acquired the exotic material which comprises Durga's armour.
Anna abruptly pauses, the dark blue underlayer of her frame dimming. Then, with a series of spasmodic twitches, Anna's frame literally vomited the Type Five out, large chunks of the Antagonist flying away from her frame as smaller pieces of it drip and drop away from the frame's surface. With a heaving shudder that seemed almost disgusted, Anna's frame reforms back into its normal shape.
Anna finds the simulators ability to replicate a Type Five's taste lacking, also it can't replicate the useful parts to consume.
[Higgs Particle Reaction!]

Sandra cranes her head, looking to the south. Faint but steady blue luminescence radiates high into the atmosphere, the signature of an enormous Higgs emission. Even a thousand kilometers distant, her Impeller ripples as wild Higgs particles brush against it.

Raksha.

Herakles.

A pair of Type Zeros, Class B and Class C, facing Pinnacle Squadron head on. Moments later, the marker of the Three Hundred Squadron disappears.
Another replaces it.

[ID Confirm: Type Zero Subjugation Squadron: Last Word]

More of Three Hundred appear on the strategic map, converging.

From the south.

[ID Confirm: Type Zero Subjugation Squadron: Ragnarok]

From the north.

[ID Confirm: Type Zero Subjugation Squadron: Deicide]

The last Type Zero Subjugation Squadron in the Northeast Theatre, Theophagy, were still battling Aeon out of Sandra's map range. Historically, here on the West Coast, neither side would take casualties. The Type Zeroes would battle against Last Word, then retreat as Deicide joined the battle, escaping before Ragnarok could cut them off.
It is nice to see how the UN forces combat type zeroes, along with how OP 300 Frames are, although we won't truly know how Anna compares until we see her go all out.
Their Flight was not one of them, and Sandra felt a spike of impatience at being held at the rear lines, but she quickly reined it in. The overuse headache had mostly faded, but it still lingered at the edge of her awareness, and would not fully fade until Sandra desynchronised Albion. High intensity combat, on the other hand, would quickly drive the discomfort levels to debilitating. With a sideways glance, Sandra determined that the condition was also likely true for Koujirou and Setsuna, their status indicators gaining a yellow border as their Frames gave warning of their approaching limits. A backwards look at Anna showed her still silent, but no longer looking towards the North East, but rather to the South where Herakles and Raksha fought the Three Hundred.
So normally a Valkyrie needs to de-synch with their core in order to deal with the fatigue headache, I imagine this has to do with how a 300 level pilot can easily lead to burn out, hence why they constantly shift between pilots.

… Someone outside the simulation room tries to talk to you.

No important information received.

You ignore them.

You walk to your room.

You enter your room.

You sleep-
I'd like to note that "No important information received." used to be bold, or at least I recall it being in veekie's(iirc) response.

Before you marshal your thoughts as to consider why you did not cocoon yourself in the soft comfort of your own bed last night, another one of the disembodied messages arrives. "Reminder to Anna Sanchez. Upon waking up, bathe and clean self. Eat breakfast. Do other normal things. End message."

Essentially the same message as before. You file it away and think about the coming day.
Now that I've gotten to the end of the update I suppose an alternative explanation would be for Anna's mother(it would certainly make " - So, it's just us left in the end. - " a very tragic foreshadowing) being the individual who defended the unnamed town who chose to save Anna from fallout at the cost of her own life, and Anna being so traumatized she tried to forget by forming a new personality based on her mother's deeds using the very extensive combat data stored in Durga's core.

The advice in bold font would be echoes/impressions/persona of her mother produced from being synced with Durga for such a long period of time(Is that how a 300 Frame is able to constantly improve weapons regardless of whether someone is synced with it?), with the constantly repeating message being a final message, set on repeat from a mother who truly loved her daughter.

The entity in bold font blames herself entirely for the death of the town people because she was late, but it gets more interesting when you take into account that on Anna's character sheet " The attacks ceased." proceeds "You were late", so it reasonable to conclude that the Antagonists didn't kill the remaining townspeople.
'Cept it was stated that it was crazy villagers who finished the good ones off.
Well I suppose UN forces accidentally bombing the town, and/or dooming the survivors due to fallout would explain Anna's issue with any friendly fire, along with why her weapons were constantly shifting north east how Anna was late.
Nu, crazy villagers.

I'm confused by your commentary. Confused. Maybe I should sleep more? Because some bits of it seem a bit incoherent. Like my thought processes. :V

'Cept it was stated that it was crazy villagers who finished the good ones off.
Nope, they were in the middle of trying when Anna decide to stop it through lethal force. Some villagers were still hunkering down when Anna left to bust down the Hive, but some Antagonist stragglers visited the town when she was out fighting Sekhmet.

Nu, crazy villagers.
This one is true though, it's the whole debacle that made Anna very averse with it.
You can bet she's gonna flip the fuse if she heard someone trying to "antagonize" the other side.

W-We aren't even holding hands! C-cmon guys... Anna isn't that kind of g-girl!

Given how OP we are, that's more likely to make us the villain that the heroes need to spend the whole season powering up to take down.

Everything is cheese and crackers until your girlfriend eats one too many Antagonists and finally starts munching on your teammates

And that's all for tonight and we suddenly meet someone rude; "Hey, sure you want to stick with Rokusabe and Kravala?
Spotted this in skaianDestinys post and I can't think of anyone who pointed it out yet. I think all of the harem has been introduced.

Thats just horrifying enough to be true.

@Alphaleph, you don't seem to be making sense, please clarify your position.
What? It's pretty clear though?

1st statement: "The hostile villagers killed off all the friendly ones!" > Nope, Anna finished them off even before she left to destroy the Hive and then return to find everyone left dead.

2nd statement: "Who caused Anna's issue with human vs human?" > The hostile villagers.

Spotted this in skaianDestinys post and I can't think of anyone who pointed it out yet. I think all of the harem has been introduced.
Technically speaking, that part is pointed out whenever someone points towards the episode list. :V

Also, not all, the superhuman friend is still missing.

What's the rating for 'this is an entirely plausible and really quite intriguing piece of speculation but it's scary and I don't like it.' ?

Don't think so, the superhuman friend was implied to be Kouji's other childhood friend. Whoever that was asked someone else (likely Anna) instead of Kouji.

And then Anna attains MC status be becoming The Superhuman, The Childhood Friend,The Ace, The Ojou and The Little Sister. mostly by absorbing them.
