The simulator's sensors cannot detect changes inside an Impeller Field unless you specifically set your Impeller Field to block nothing at all, which is rather hard. That's why Koujirou managed to accidentally his everything with G forces whereas if his Impeller was down, the Simulator would promptly engage safeties and stop any harm at all coming to him. It engaged safeties after his Impeller went down and it detected the injuries in his body.

As for whether Anna was crying or had popped her eyeballs from high speed maneuvers, well... *spaghetti arms* I dunno, don't look at me, I'm just an ol GM, teasing my readers...

Maybe Anna pushed herself too hard again and burst a bunch of blood vessels in her eyeballs? Would explain the look, because holy crap your eyes are full of blood, and why it didn't cause Anna to fail, because she caused the damage to herself.

Well, you know, it was supposed to be the thing where Koujirou just looks forlornly at his broken sword, and ... you know, typing this directly without a narrative container makes it so inappropriate and bluntly unhumourous that I think it would violate the CC so I'll just say that it was rather freudian.

Anyway, I looked at my scene and why specifically Koujirou would be passing out, then at the backgrounds of the characters who were with him and I realised that absolutely no way would Yukari or Anna be okay with what was happening. The tone promptly blackened and I found myself writing a rather serious scene rather than a humourous one.

I would assume that part of the simulator involves it asking your valk core to give it status info- kinda like how the instructors know when Koujirou disabled his safeties. Now obviously your core can fake that data (which Koujirou's would totally have been doing), but I would assume Anna would be sending data to the sim about that.

If not, then how the heck can the simulator even have an 'any damage' condition, as it wouldn't be able to detect anything until the impeller field's fully broken.

The simulator cannot detect damage inside the impeller field. so it had no way of knowing the conditions of her eyes.

I think "any" damage means both "non negligible" damage and "negligible" damage to the impeller field are fail conditions. Like when we were hit in the first simulation.

I'm not actually quite sure what you are asking exactly so this might be off the mark but;

The... consistency I suppose would be the best word for it, of an Impeller Field changes as it waxes and wanes in strength, and the simulator constantly observes that to predict when Impeller Failure is about to occur and acts to prevent outside forces from damaging a Valkyrie upon the failure of their Impeller, but that's a rather bit off from the point of the question.

The simulator can detect "Any Damage" through simply functioning. The Simulator is perfectly aware of everything inside the sim space barring what is wrapped up in an Impeller Field and things such as Higgs distortions. If you shoot something and it leaves the confines of your Impeller field, the Simulator will know everything about it and if it impacts another Valkyrie's Impeller Field, then that's damage which has been done to them. Now there are a complex series of rules regarding how indirect is too indirect but ricocheting a piece of debris into someone's head with a cannon round is treated differently from pulsing your engines once which disrupts the air enough to eventually form a tornado on the other side of the sim space.

Things like Yukari's Impeller Whips have to have special programming entered into the Simulator because anything encased in Impeller is treated as Frame components proper, otherwise you would have lost by deflecting them.

Alright Koujirou! Don't get too cocky now! I'll see you crash and burn in the tournament just you wait!" Time for training montage-and it's time for the beginning of the Vanguard tournament!

Episode 10: (???) -and it's time for the beginning of the Vanguard tournament! Oh look at all these matches, but it turns out they were replays. Screen pulls away, it's professor Onee sama helping Koujirou with tactics against the other competitors. Lets watch the previous matches and analyse our competition! We have a look at the tournament bracket and most threatening is Syifa, what do?

Excellent fight - seems to me that of the three of them Yukari was the most off-balanced by Anna's tricks. Probably a combination of exposure (the kids are a little more used to Anna being on a different level to them) and lack of experience (Koji and Setsu are new to the game, so any trick Anna pulls off gets a 'wow, didn't know she could do that' as opposed to Yukari's greater experience giving her the context to know precisely how bullshit HAX Anna truly is).

And all that was without access to Higgs or Teleport.

Just ... wow.

Please tell me that was recorded somewhere so that everyone can utterly lose their shit at the Thumbs-Up-Of-Ultimate-Power - those reactions never get old!
