Rather then sit in a room of other PTSD victims veterans and deal with all the problems there lets go out and blow shit up!

While it probably won't help Anna directly, since she doesn't seem the kind of person to vent by wrecking stuff, it will give her something productive to do and make it less likely something like that will ever happen again.

It's also a good alternative from a character relevance perspective. Yeah going to the Elite cafeteria has the whole "ooh mysterious" factor but everyone already knows Anna is an Ace so the impact is reduced. Completely disappearing from the Archology? Now that is mysterious. Especially since there is a chance our flight might detect our experimentation, Wave Force is really obvious after all, and maybe even link it to the mysterious lights, and neutrinos, they detected coming from over the horizon in the simulator.

Edit:
Oh and picture how strange it would be to see this scene:

Coke-Zero: "Computer, locate Anna Sanchez"
Computer: "Anna Sanchez not located."
Coke-Zero:

"Anna-"

"Sandra wait. Stay away from her."

-No one was saved, and to their graves, perished and dead. All on my head.-

"Anna c'mon, we gotta hurry to make the nav marker times."

Hurry?

You were late.

-You're late-

Ah.

-Don't look back honey. I love you-

"Anna…-"

"In position. Proceed."

You pull in with the rest of the flight, mute your comm channels, and you scream and scream and scream and scream and scream and scream and scream.

Credit to...Shuri? I think? For preventing Sandra from going near her when she's having a bad flashback. Also credit to Shuri for noticing that this was a terrible idea.

Things I think we should note taking forwards, firstly, categorically no valkyrie to valkyrie combat, secondly, no more historical scenarios.

I'd say just stay out of the sims altogether since they seriously rub Anna the wrong way, but I think the basic training level still has some mild utility, even if only for improving target rich environment. It's a touch weird, but I honestly think Anna would deal roughly 10x better with an actual combat scenario, than the ones in sims that keep on tripping her real/not-real senses. I mean, we're going to see her in a combat scenario eventually, probably when Pinnacle/Last Word gets called up, and we haven't seen her in full-on monster mode yet.

The academics only course would have been a lot better for Anna in a lot of ways.

Let's avoid Historical Sims entirely. I do not think they will end well from now on. We also did not get that much of a lore dump so for people who say BUT I WANT LORE, you didn't get much of it, now did ya?

I suggest avoid ones from The Alaskan Offensive rather than ALL Historical Sims, because the Battle for Britain/etc wouldn't have set off the trauma (unless someone maybe 'died', but that would be the same for all Sims) as Alaska did.(Plus it might give Faux-chan a hint)
We might consider avoiding Sims taking place at around the same time to avoid possible 'Sache___ Breach is down, Alaskan Offensive can proceed ahead of schedule.' or something like that, but that seems unlikely to happen.

The academics only course would have been a lot better for Anna in a lot of ways.

Academics course is the one where we just do the subjects and (presumably) have people to stop others from trying to interact with us, good for making an soldier, so not so helpful for dealing with trauma.

Academics would have been technical subjects, but there wouldn't have been anything stopping her from interacting with people. It just would have meant no sim combat, no helping a rookie flight.

I think it might have also had unofficial 'discouragement' from 'bodyguards protecting a valuable Ace', being the response from the Military as well.

The academics only course would have been a lot better for Anna in a lot of ways.

But it would have failed her in one extremely crucial one - it would not have given her something new to protect. As much as Anna thinks of herself as a failure as a protector, she is still willing to try, and try, and try. I don't see that stubborness changing, not unless she fails again on a similar scale (refer the Durga/Kali revelation earlier).

I think that's the main problem with Sandra's present approach, actually. Anna isn't the type to understand internalize abstract goals. She might understand intellectually but she's focused on personal meaning. I don't know if Anna will ever be the kind of person to internalize the big picture - she might change, but I seriously doubt it.

The speech about accomplishments may have had more effect if Sandra had said, for example:

"We foiled the Interstate Five line's surprise attack on our flight without injury." [...] "Thanks to our quick reactions, we were able to call for high yield weaponry to destroy the antagonists emerging from the tunnels and weather the strike without issue, preventing..."

Not sure what to say instead of "humanity will greatly benefit" but the broad perspective that she's here to benefit humanity is a very Sandra thought, probably in the awareness of everyone in the flight but internalized to varying degrees. Possibly one of her blindspots, I think.

"Good work everyone. Our actions shortened the length of the entire Alaskan Offensive by four hours. Because of our discovery of Interstate Five, the arrival of Denver's reinforcements would be mistimed and the UN forces successfully withdrew from the Salt Lake City Breach with greatly reduced casualties. In addition, the fast call for High Yield Weaponry that destroyed the Air Groups emerging from the tunnels prevented the Antagonists from gaining local air superiority over Corvallis, which meant that the UN advance down the coast was not cut in half, also reducing casualties greatly. If we replicate such manner feats on the real battlefield, humanity will greatly benefit."

E: and a debriefing listing personal accomplishments would have worked even better, even if it's a bit against Sandra's overall team-centric viewpoint

E2: it feels almost heretical to say this, but if you want a leader with a talent for saying the right things at the right time, you want Koujirou, not Sandra

I wouldn't mind time with the flight but I do want to see this place before the weekend and we can analyze the readings we take during the afternoon class. We see everyone at breakfast anyway, keep in mind.

I waited so long for this that I forgot what we were doing, it was definitely worth the wait though.

As for the update itself, poking the trauma beast was bad but I see this advancing the plot fairly well, we showed an appropriate amount of foreshadowing. We just need to watch what we do for a while, as several people have said we don't want to show our hand too soon. Anna is a VERY important character and deserves her own arc to highlight what she is capable of and to help her come to terms with what happened .

In other news I was looking at Anna's character sheet to refresh on things, and damn, she has over 9 years of sync time and over 2 years of combat hours. I can't wait until that bit of knowledge gets out. Setsuna's reaction should be priceless.

As the Protagonist, it's one of his highest level skills! We just have an automatically low opinion of him because he (technically) inhabits a harem genre anime. Luckily, it's also a real-robot/super-robot genre with actual characterization and build-up, so mayhap he shall redeem himself in our eyes. (Fittingly for an idiot hero, he won't even know he's on trial, and will still probably pass.)

Just because it's a trope doesn't make it a good trope.
There is no such thing as a good trope, nor is there such a thing as a bad trope. It only matters how it is used, and who is consuming it.

As a side note could we never discuss shocking/sensitive/surprising topics in a public with Koujirou. Cause as described in the charactar sheet is a Clueless Moron and is likely to respond to such topics like this "Ehhhhhhhh, you beat a class C type zero/closed a breach solo!!"
