[x] Koujirou
-[x] Ask his frame what exactly it thought it was doing when it let him override the safeties.
-[x] Discuss the match and pick out where they did right and wrong.

Any specific pointers to Koujirou as to how he can git gud?
[x] Practice impeller field manipulation with less volatile materials than plasma. Fine impeller control means you can wear it as a second skin rather than just a shield, use it for maneuvering, and deliver improvised attacks like we did yesterday.
[x] Keep pushing what speeds and g-forces he can safely achieve. He's a melee combatant, and that means he needs a lot of practice at high speed maneuver. As long as he doesn't override safeties and push to the point of injury, it's fine.
-[jk] Suggest integrating a pillow fort.

[X]Afternoon: Self Study. Transcendent Offense.
- [X] We have a blank check from the UN to get this thing done. Would heading out into the hinterlands to do some practical tests speed up the process? We can afford to miss a simulated fight or two.

[X] Dinner: Bonding with your friends. Their suggestion, because we should learn more about them.
-[X] Dinner: Include Sandra if possible, due to the message during class
-[X] Dinner: Use the new cutlery for dinner.

[x] Evening: Continue down the list.
-[X] ... but not before dropping by the Crafting Club and thanking them for the silverware gift. Send your regards to the Baking Club too for the thought.
-[x] Evening: Spend an hour or so at Modeling to improve your pet toy car. It's kinda cute.

I kinda find it odd, how we call other people, humans. It's not "Fight other people" it's "Fight other humans". Does it mean something or is it a British thing?
My theory is that this is a left over way of thinking from when Anna and Durga used to actually talk.

I think that when Anna was systematically destroying her neurons by accident Durga might have just started picking up some of the slack because there wasn't time for a complete recovery, and that Anna had a harder and harder time recognizing what was Durga's thought and what was hers. Then eventually she lost the memories of Durga being her friend in a later neuron destroying accident, so the only recognition of Durga's sentience she has now is "that is an emotion that is not mine", because she can't tell when Durga's talking at her.

I don't have a problem with this idea at all, but can I suggest the following addition?

- [] Message your instructors what you plan before you even go to lunch. Ask if they can take things up the chain of command and inform you of a suitable area to do your tests. Stress that you're just running tests to help your own understanding, but you don't want to alarm anyone.

Because you just know Anna is going to fly out without telling anyone, find some area of wilderness that in no way resembles a practice range, fire off a few attacks that can be detected from the moon, lose an arm or two because static wave does frame damage right now, and probably cause an evacuation alarm in Perth or something.

You know... I don't think we should be loosing arms, (Even if we'll have em back in realtively quick order.) guys.

Our WAVE GUN does do +1 frame damage ya know. Let's continue studying it to see if at 200 we might be able to remove the +1 frame damage bit?

For some reason, I was under the impression that no changes occur until leveling up (900 exp). Is it more gradual than that? I mean, I'm just taking into account the fact that we've been going day by day. We've studied this thing like 3 times for a few hours or so. It'd be too easy if you could just study a little bit for half a week and expect immediate results, wouldn't it?

Well for our other Rank 1 Skill... at 95 we got this

Practical (Target Rich Environment Level 1): (78)+14+3 = 95/???

Group Bonuses unlocked. (+1 to roll result for every two members of group rounded up, limited by lowest ranking member of group, +3 per rank.)

At 100/??? we learned how much farther we needed to go. So it seems like every 100~ points or so gives us something.

If we don't get anything at 200, then I guess we want to learn it faster. But At least for one of our skills we got stuff just by getting it to 95.

Eh, it's one damage out of 10. It's not like we're going to take frame damage from anybody else. The thing with studying is that we're 13 updates in and sitting at 164/900. I feel like the governmental enthusiasm for the project is something we could tap into to speed up the process a bit.

We don't even necessarily have to be firing off test nukes in the outback. Maybe just running through the first few steps of the process while studying it with our increased understanding will be enough to give a level of insight we can't get by just uploading all the maths into our brain.

More likely it's a result of Anna trying to distance herself from the events back in her village. It's monsters that murdered the people there, and there's the implication that she was one of them in order to protect herself and those that protected her, so she doesn't quite identify herself or other Valkyries as 'human' anymore.

It's an issue she's trying to cope with, but she's not managing it very successfully. Letting her connect to other Valkyries in a school setting should help, as would making sure she gets involved in the doing of normal things, including, hopefully, contact with normals outside of her duties.

One thing I did notice on a re-read of the first story post, was that Anna started to refer to her home when thinking about the memorial, then her train of thought cut off and replaced it with "the town". And I don't recall Anna thinking about any of what happened in Alaska much, either.

It does make me wonder how many things Durga is nudging Anna away from thinking about in order to protect her mental state, and what would happen if they desynched. It wouldn't surprise me if Anna just dropped to her knees, clutched her head, and started screaming.

>>"We will talk to him in afternoon class."
>>TO: Cadet Masaya Setsuna.

Setsuna sighs slightly and composes one last response and sends it before tucking away her datapad and walking towards the cafeteria.

>>"Alright."
>>FROM: Cadet Masaya Setsuna.

Anna is not a flake, and she'll almost certainly want to meet both Setsu and Kouji in the afternoon class as she mentioned. IC, she can't teach them and watch over them if she's not there. OOC, we know that we've been volunteered as squad to join Shuri's group. We'll want to be there for the first run through as a combined squad.

She definitely identified Koujirou and Yukari and Setsuna as humans. She also identifies herself as human. That's why she was reluctant to spar with them in the first place. Human vs. human conflict is something that she hates because that's what destroyed the town that she tried to protect. The idiosyncratic terminology ("humans" vs. "people") is probably just because she grew up without a lot of human interaction, so her manner of speaking is a bit odd. In her mind, the conflict ought to be "Humans" vs. "Antagonists".

or as a result of the nutjobs back in her town, her mental tag for 'people' is 'angry mobs' and 'threat' which she deals through 'deliberate application of firepower.'

Um. Maybe I'm missing something...

But doesn't "Still to come:" mean that those votes are already going to happen? Presumably in the next update?

So why is everyone voting for them?

You're right, of course. It's just hard to remember sometimes that "Self Study" means "Do the group exercises and multitask by studying at the same time." Maybe we can do the individual training tomorrow or something.

"What… are Frame safeties like? Surely they shouldn't be easy to override."

Koujirou shrugs slightly at that, "Kandakara always had a closer margin setting than other frames, but I dunno, it wasn't hard or anything, I just kinda wanted to? I mean, I'd need to go through all the menus and stuff usually, this time, I didn't need that though."

"Go through the menus usually? Koujirou, how often-"

Koujirou chokes and cuts you off before you finish your question, "Gah- Uh, I mean, I figured it out from the tutorial during my first time synching. So, you know, it isn't really-" he cuts himself off, takes a bit of a breath, then continues, meeting your eyes. "Anna, don't get the wrong idea, this is the first time I've actually pushed past the safeties, but I made sure I knew how to, just in case you know?"

You nod slightly in acceptance of the explanation, but it still strikes you as strange that he had the option at all outside of High Alert Conditions.

Maybe it was a… 'feature' of his frame? Perhaps you could try ask it directly? Durga rarely returned more than vague emotions the various times when you tried talking to her as far as you remembered, but maybe Kandakara was different.

*Koujirou playing around with the menus*

"Override safeties."

[Illegal action. High Alert Condition required]

"Um, how do I then... Oh right, like this. Override, code word "Protagonist""

[Override acknowledged]

Since our little protag managed, maybe we should try to talk to Durga at some point. It's nice to speculate and all. But if we want details on how this all came to be, we need to ask at the only one who remembers anything about it.

I don't really think we need to be involved with Koji and Setsu's first 'team' meeting with Shuri and Sandra.

We don't need to be involved in every action between the 'haremettes'; Koji is the harem lead, not us. Honestly I'd prefer to be a little distant.
