And of course, Durga couldn't help but make a few enhancements to... certain places, because even if this is a mostly serious Anime, it is still a Harem Anime and stuff like that is to be expexted.
Finally having to use the bathroom every couple of hours was annoying and a waste of time.

Well, Anna is Peerless...

Then again, this sounds like MC shenanigans, so not something we're likely to get before we become the favoured canon pairing...
Well you do that I'll just continue pushing asexual Anna.

For the obligatory fan service episode, someone hacks the simulator to lock the people using the simulator into playing monster girl quest.

The MC and Anna schedule a session in the simulator to work on bringing the MC up to an "acceptable" skill level.

Hilarity ensues.

Google says it's probably Monster Girl Quest, which I'm pretty sure is in a different universe.

Thanks.

On a less fan service/porn line of thought.

I have never really consumed anything harem related when it comes to anime.

Would this series be a deconstruction? Or is it doing anything new or different from any other series in its genre. Asking due to the fake 4chan reactions.

It is different in that it is actually giving the haremettes actual character, as opposed to most harem stories.

It's being "Played with". The trope is there, but it isn't really being played straight so far, what with the lack of overt romantic interest in the MC from anybody but Setsuna, and the actual characterization. And the fact that one of the characters has a council of semi-insane nerds for a subconscious.

Well, it's not taking on the tropes of the harem genre by the horns and either showcasing what's likely to happen in real life (a lot of soured relationships at best) or exaggerating them to examine the potential negative consequences. It's more like Nanoha was a magical girl show. Sure the protagonist there was a cute young girl flinging magic attacks, but the battle scenes and subject matter had more in common with a modestly serious super robot show than the magical girl genre.

This looks like it's going to be similar. Sure, the MC looks like he's in a military themed harem genre show, but that's hardly the core subject matter. The war is, and the protagonist just happens to be in a flight that is at first blush and by looking at the character blurbs made up out of harem genre cliches.

As a friendly reminder, these are underage teenagers. So kindly NEVER EVER EVER talk about them in a sexual context while that remains true. Because this isn't QQ, it's SV, and the mods will lock this thread.

If you were to happen to add a "when they are a bit older" modifier, you'd be golden. Just, remember to actually do so.

Well, we don't know what the protag gets up to on his own time. To the viewers, it could be fairly generic.

on a completely unrelated note, i just had the mental image of anna and the other two doing something like exploring the city ruins, where they encounter an old modem and she tries to interface with it, and then this happens.

Please.

The fanservice episode is always a training montage at the beach, in swimsuits. It's tradition.

The best harem shows give the 'harem' characters this much... well, character.

Most harem shows are lazy and rely on stock tropes like tsundere (i.e. Setsu) that are old and tired, though. And Setsu is still better than the usual tsundere, because she's also Koji's rival, and he accepts her as such. And even good harem shows typically degenerate the 'harem' characters at some point so the everyman protagonist (with mysterious powers he can't control; that's always been super popular) can shine.

Anna is also a bit of a unique character. I don't think I've yet seen a harem-type anime where one of the characters is already a PTSD-ravaged war veteran. It's a pretty stock trope in shonen anime, and a favorite of giant robot animes, but not harem. And even then, Tropes Aren't Bad. A well-executed trope can be so, so satisfying, with just a little tiny spark of creativity. Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann barely had a creative bone in its body, and look how it turned out.
