And What a Dance it Was (NO SV, War is Coming, Prepare)

You know thinking about it, I feel ruling a small but highly civilized and advanced nation is both easier and better than ruling an entire continent. Each of the Free Cities (despite all but one utilized slavery) has a more sophisticated government and cultural society than the entirety of Westeros.

Not really, Lucien is still the firstborn song of Valarr, even if we have a different name now we are still Valarr´s heir...

I mean last names are important in medieval times, one of the reasons women often couldnt own property was because she changed last names and households, her children would belong to her husband family and the property that was given to her would be lost to another Households when she died and her children inherited it, thus diminishing her original family wealthy.

Of course one of the solutions was when the women died, the land that was hers would reverse to her original family, instead of her husband and children.

In a similar example we have the Twins case here, they are the heirs of Runestone but since their mother who was the Lady joined the Targaryen in marriage, her children the twins have the Targ name and not the Royce name. Now that Rhae died, if Baela (I think she is the oldest?) Doesnt marry a Royce, change her name or make one of her children Bear the name Royce, pass the heirship to a Royce, Runestone would belong to a Targ thus ending their ownership of Runestone.

Lucien position in this is the reverse of the Twins because he was a bastard who was legmized in his mother House and not his father, plus the fact he has trueborn siblings make it a rather clear cut case if we were going by law alone.

Edit: Sorry for the long post

Not really even before being formally named a Targaryen, we were officially the legal first bor of Valarr, and our mom formally adopted us...

So no matter how you look at it, if Valarr gets the tittle we will eventually become lord of the Stepstones...
Grey Ghost sat beside you, his head resting and you used him as a rest. "Oh don't be like that my friend, we finally have your own volcano all to yourself with Syrax."

The Ghost snorted, letting out steam and smoke as he relaxed. The Dragon had been growing lazy since he was able to make a cave his own in the Volcano.

You learned quickly that the Volcano was active, but the lava flow was always away from the keep and the coastline, and that… Dragons could swim in it. When the lava came out, Grey Ghost went into it as a child jumps into a puddle. You had to make sure everyone stayed away from that side of the island, to not get hit by a superheated rock.

But it also made you notice the many things that occurred with Syrax and Grey Ghosts…. Mating patterns.

They were almost always together now, same with you and Rhaenyra. Though something was wrong.
Dammit, I have just realized that in a few weeks Syrax and Grey Ghost will have their love nest ruined and they will have to share the Volcano with a bunch of noisy teenagers (by dragon standards) once the triplets and their dragons move with us... They are going to be grumpy for weeks or even months afterwards.

I tought Valaar bribed the Septon to wash away the bastardy so Lucien could pass of as a child of his and Visenya, so it was actualy rather ilegal. Unless I am mistaken?

Edit: Well anyway since Magoose said Lucien counts as Valaar heir then it is.

Edit 2: Just to clarify I am confused as what is the point of making a noble of Valaar which would mean making their own House and giving him the title Lord of Steptstones, just to have to pass to his son that already belongs to another House which you know defeats the point of making someone a noble and having them make their own House.

The Targaryen Rumor Mill (As the Stepstones are Conquered)
The Targaryen Rumor Mill (As the Stepstones are Conquered)

King Viserys: D100 - 20 => 53

Viserys did not leave the keep when he was given the news of the utter destruction of the Triarchy's army. There was something that he feared from the impossible in his dreams.

Another field of fire.

All he could think about was the horror he unleashed. And what his dreams meant to him.

Reward: We have unleashed something that must have been left alone. And he fears that something horrible will happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Prince Baelon:D100 => 86
Trait Roll:D20 => 20

The Boy is a genius. At least to anyone who can be in his… presence. He is speaking and ordering people around, even as a small child.

Reward: Gain Trait genius.
---------------------------------

Corlys the Sea Snake:D100 => 44

The outrage went into the Sea Snake as he looked, not only towards the King but to Daemon himself, who was just standing there, trying his best to hide the smirk behind an air of superiority. "I was promised a great deal when we went to the stepstones, and now I am being spat on." He said with venom in his voice.

"It was your ambition that lead to the Stepstones, not my orders. I have already paid the debts of all your men, and all your sailors who were off at that campaign. I have made you rich beyond imagination, with others being rewarded because they sacrifice more than you!" Viserys stood as he walked over to the Sea Snake.

"You now have the Narrow sea all to yourself Corlys, is that not enough?" He demanded as the Sea Snake Backed down.

For but a brief moment. "Twenty of my ships are at the bottom of the sea, and you will have me paid and have their memory forgotten?" He asked.

"If you wanted them to still be alive. You would have stayed home." The King stated.

Reward: The Sea Snake is now King of the Narrow sea in all but name.

But it is hollow, some would say… pyrrhic victory.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Baela:D100 => 95
Rhaena:D100 => 94
Prince Daemon:D100 => 23

Daemon knew what was coming when his daughters demanded he came to Runestone. It was little that he thought about, at least under the truthful situation.

He knew what he had done, abandoning his daughters again for the third time in nearly as many years, to play war and conquerer in the Stepstones.

Yet he was not angered at them. Quite the opposite. He was proud of them. They reminded him of his dear Rhae. And it was something that he felt until Baela spoke to him.

But he did not pay attention to her words, only that he saw anger. Fear and worry in her eyes. Both of them seemingly tried to reason with him, again, to try and force him into the one thing he could not do.

He could never stay home because if he did, he would have to take responsibility for what he truly was.

A Terrible man. A man unworthy of being there for them, because he didn't deserve any of them. Not Baela, nor Rhaena… Not Even Lucien, and his White Wyrm.

"Father… Please." He didn't know who said those words. "You can stay."

He couldn't.

And he did the only thing he could do.

He ran away.

Reward: Daemon has left Westeros for Parts unknown.

Baela and Rhaena have stayed in Runestone, to rule it, and rule well.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Princess Rhaenys Targaryen:D100 => 75
Lord Laenor Velaryon:D100 => 62

The young Lord of Driftmark came home a conquering hero, but it was his mother that was smiling and happy when he returned home.

And later, it seemed that his honor and happiness would soon turn to horror.

He was now one of the most eligible bachelors in Westeros.

Reward: Being Laenor is suffering.

Now he's a war hero and needs to marry himself off, before… bad things happen.

Again: Being Laenor is suffering.
-------------------------------------

Aegor Rivers:D100 => 98
Maelor:D100 => 91
Maegor:D100 => 83

"And what shall you take the name of?" Viserys asked the young bastard children.

Aegor spoke, and only said one word. "Blackfyre."

Reward: Aegor and his brothers are now members of the Blackfyre Dynasty.

(Somewhere in the future, Aegon the Unworthy is shitting himself)
--------------------------------------------------------
Maester Vaegon:D100 => 99

The Maester looked towards The Stepstones, with a letter, and a warning in his heart.

"Prepare for The War of Light and Dark. Prepare for a battle of the Human Heart."

Reward: Vaegon is now the Maester of Sunstone, and will serve as your Maester and advisor.

AN: enjoy. We will get the Westeros Rumor mill, then the Stepstones will be handed out in the last rumor mill.

Just wait till he grows up?

He might be even be worse then Daemon...

Actually, him being worse then daemon would be a helluva feat, considering Daemon just abandoned his family.
At least he isn't a sadist like Joffrey. I think the best path forward is to try to tie his own self-worth to the state of the realm, and build his own self-image on being a King. As a genius, he most likely will understand the necessity of not pissing off and terrifying everyone for no reason but your own amusement, because that is a path to very quickly becoming Aerys 2.0. Or well, Aerys hasn't been born yet, so some other example of an insane ruler from Westeros's history.

If we're lucky, the Kingdom could survive his reign fairly intact. Tywin (with the exception of Joanna and maybe his kids) was pretty much a sociopath, but no one could deny the Westerlands prospered under him, after all.

Sociopathy means he'd be utterly ruthless and without any sort of compassion, operating off of cold logic... but it also means he won't be unnecessarily cruel either. No self-obsessed person wants to live in a dirty, disgusting, run-down house, and I can't imagine a self-obsessed King would want to live in a similar Kingdom. He could probably leave a strong, whole, realm behind him at the very least, because as a King the state of the Kingdom reflects on him (he "owns" it, after all).

tl;dr There's a difference between sociopathy and mindless sadism. Sociopathy is Roose Bolton rather than a Ramsay, and while that's terrible for the people in his life, it's not necessarily disastrous for the realm.

Again, At least he isn't Daemon.

Daemon may be a ruthless son uva bitch, prone to flights of fancy and manipulation, but I shall say this:

Baelon is a kid with troubling behavior. Hopefully, he will at least be competent in his training.

And won't decide that, just because we're banging his sister and having tons of children... become a threat.

He might operate on the logic that, anyone who isn't from his line of the family, will be a threat to his own realm and its stability.

Well, now that Daemon is out of the equation, that leaves the Stepstones to either Valaar or Lucien.

Also, since I'm getting bad vibes off of Baelon and those vibes are giving me an idea as to how the Dance will start, what exactly are the chances of Lucien being the contender for the Iron Throne against Baelon? And if not Lucien, could it be one of his sons or even (still) Rhaenyra?

Yeah, but Daemon being out of the equation can lead to...

Problems.

Yeah, Daemon's in for one helluva adventure for the next couple of years.

To bad we won't be able to see most of it.

Well, we would have to be the Consort or THe Regent/Hand.

The only way we could become King, is if everyone is dead.

Well, considering the Dance could potentially become even worse in this quest should the dice roll feel especially cruel, that may not be outside the realm of possibility.
That would mean not only would Rhaenyra be dead, but Laenor, our children, and almost the entire Royal Family...

Even the Legendary Badass Daemon.

Yeah, im totally ready to do that if it gets that to that point.

Depending on the psychopath/sociopath sliding scale, he might have just one or two people he would truly care about at the better end, but even that is going to be a trainwreck.

Darkstalker from Wings of Fire is a good example of what happens when a sociopath in fantasy has just one relationships (his sister being the only person he has done stuff for just her sake) while still being horrible but charismatic.

(Note: I am not a PhD and should not be quoted for popscience takes, as that is dangerous)

I just looked up bases to use for potential... interesting ways he could turn out. Mostly because i needed something to base him off of just to show he's a person, and not an evil fantasy villian we must destroy.

On the Scale from Ivan the Terrible/Octavian...

To the man we know of today as Pol Pot.

Now, i'm not saying he will start a genocide in Westeros.

But if he starts getting bad, and really bad, and Viserys fails in his duties as a parent and a monarch... He might.

That is of course the absolute worst case senario.

But there is a Succession crisis coming, that we can't stop.

Reward: Aegor and his brothers are now members of the Blackfyre Dynasty.

Aha! I will cross that from my bingo book!

Now I am ready for Bright Orange Eyesore Castle!

Now he's a war hero and needs to marry himself off, before… bad things happen.

Again: Being Laenor is suffering.

Poor Laenor... I hope he has good luck in finding someone that can understand his situation.

Reward: Daemon has left Westeros for Parts unknown.

So... That happened. At least I think he wont come back suddently married like a Las Vegas speedy wedding.

Yay baby Baelon!! Wish he can grow up to be a competent King! More omakes with Baby Baelon for me to write!

All in all It was a good turn.
