If we manage to pull of Fire-Druid-Treants through feeding the Fungus Forge trees from the Plane of Fire, we're going to absolutely spam those things and send them straight to the Wall.

I find it fine for a man who has served a literal life time to hang up the coat after so long in service. He would have fulfilled the oath to the word. If it doesn't anger the Gods, it shouldn't anger us.
O.k.

We want aemon to become immortal because we like him.

He can stay at the wall or not for all I care. He payed his dime.

But he's good enough to stay there for the sake of the world.

Not to mention we're trying to reform the wall into something like the legion. Something important something to be proud of.

If he wants to die, or leave that's his call. But it's his call. Not ourss

Same with all of this stuff really.

Speaking of Fire Druids, I think you might like this. It's a fun archetype, if we can batter it into the 3.5 chassis (which I'm pretty sure we can).

Edit: take the Ash subdomain and watch the world come alive.

Oaths without agreeable ending terms are unconscionable. People agree to serve at the Wall over death because they don't want to die, not because they want to live forever holding the line against Oblivion. If every person who swore the NW Oath was instead made into an immortal sentinel, and they weren't turned into beings of Pure Law alongside it as a package deal, the institution plain wouldn't exist.

Your argument might apply to the common man, it certainly doesn't apply to Aemon.

A man who has nothing but a guilty conscience to guide them will of course pick death over personal gain.

Fuck that shit.

If I wanna tell one of the last members of our kin we want him to keep living because we enjoy his company that much, you bet your ass I'll be selfish. I voted to reprimand Dany over risking her life for the unwashed masses on a gamble that might not have even paid off.

Your argument might apply to the common man, it certainly doesn't apply to Aemon.

The Oath is written for the common man. And he only took them for family, in the end. For family.

He feels guilt while fulfilling his duties, because he loves his family. He's not supposed to think about kin.

He does not serve because he's so in love with the institution itself. That he would die for the common man proves to me only that the common man, who has not en masse joined the Night's Watch or moved to the Gift to support it, does not deserve his loyalty.

Alright. I can see a lot of people feel very strongly about this, and have given valid reasons for being so.

When DP gets back here tomorrow, I am going to ask him what exactly reincarnating Aemon as a dragon would actually entail. I think the crux of the matter is that the process would demean what Viserys went through, by being simple and easy. I understand and sympathize with this, but I don't believe that the process will be any of those things.

Obviously, I can't make any sort of statement without knowing, so I will wait until I do before continuing to push for this.

I'm sorry if I caused people to get angry or dug up old wounds.

I'm less angry at you and more frustrated at the string of vaguely connected issues which the discussion brings up, but namely it's the idea that if you continue to talk about something enough, hoping the other side will eventually just agree with you, and when most of the decision making here is driven by consent and open platform to sell your position, that will eventually happen, I become infuriated.

I see it as a betrayal of trust. I acknowledge that's not always rational, because eventually I grew to accept if not agree with some of the decisions driven by such tactics, but easy dragons from reincarnation ain't one of the ones I'll ever agree with.

It's not just the impact on Viserys, it's the impact on the world. It makes no sense whatsoever for the world to be the way it is if this course of action is possible.
It doesn't break my suspension of disbelief, it drags it into the wilderness and crawls inside it like a demented Jedi.

Can you please just ask DP in PMs to avoid reintroducing the subject yet again to the thread?

It's honestly just tiring to see it brought up again and again and again when so many of us are clearly against it.

A not at all small and not at all nice part of me is enjoying this. As much as it shames me to say. I remember screaming. Crying. Begging. Taking long breaks from the quest over what people said and did.

NO.

FOR THE LAST TIME

FRIENDS DO NOT KEEP FRIENDS AS SLAVES!

Good times. Good times.

Edit: @Duesal also that's hilarious.

Alternatively just pay Amrelath to sleep with a Treant.

That's a dumb idea. I'm sorry to be so rude, but it is.

Charge Amrealth to sleep with a Treant. It's not a chore that deserves recompense, but a service to be paid for! :D

crawls inside it like a demented Jedi.

wtf? WTF!? What the fuck kind of Jedi do you hang around with dude!

edit: yeah, I totally came straight back to thread :/. (Plz don't tell anyone!)

Anyway.

@Goldfish, you should probably plan ahead for Asha and Theon leveling up from their current action. They bump up to level 6 and get new feats.

Three words. Just three.

Bob the Huecuva.

*flees*

You monster! I had sincerely forgotten about him. :p
Though naming the foul creature (and it is, under DP's decided metaphysics, foul) was a very clever move that worked, even as it was identified as a (messy/bad/unethical/shitty? dunno. the correct term to fit.) debate tactic. Emotional manipulation based tactics always make me angry. People are dumb and fall for them, and I should know, they work on me even as I see them. And then I worry if it's a double bluff to get me to go against the stated argument, because it's such and aggravatingly obvious tactic that it pisses me off, and now I'm ranting. opps.

Also, dude, you have a big open, easy target. All one has to do is bring up mobile phones. So have a care, neighbour ;)

You two timing...

Infuriate me, damn it!

Is the "Infuriate me" a complaint, or a command? Basically... should I get the popcorn out?

Personally, I consider the argument about Aemon having to stick to his oath beyond death a pointless one. There will be no Night Watch anymore once the second Long Night has ran it's course.

Because we will use everything we got to eradicate the presence of the Others on Planetos.

And by EVERYTHING, I mean "Get the pie-cutters and a good map, because it's time to calculate blast-zones!".

That's fine, and I will.

I didn't know this was a problem until people started flipping their shit about my post for no reason I could understand. Then I was frustrated because I still wanted to push the idea but could tell doing that would just make people even more miserable and against it, which was kind of a shitty Catch-22. At this point I'm just going to PM DragonParadox to figure out the details, although I imagine he's just as sick of it as everyone else. I think the decision will be a lot more clear-cut if he simply explains what will happen.

The core reason I brought this up was because I like Aemon a lot and think he's being wasted as an elderly Maester, when he's one of four people alive who are full Targaryens (leaving out Jon, Rheanys, and Faegon because they're a lot more ambiguous). Seeing as the other three are Viserys, Daenerys, and Rhealla, the waste sickened me. It was good loot just ... languishing. I'm sorry for bringing back something which many people just wanted to let die.

Oh, come on. We always fought dirty here. It's part of the reason why this thread-culture could even emerge.

No, Faegon is unabashedly a Blackfyre and we've for-sure confirmed that. It's actually one of the funnier parts of this Quest, because with magic we can just brush off silly things like diabolic conspiracies to put bastards on the Iron Throne decades in the making.
