Talk it over with DP, I guess. 4-5 feats would be pretty generous in my book. 2 seems kind of lame, but ultimately I don't see us getting more than 2 more Wish granted feats for Lya in the entire quest anyways.

I am. Runes are incredibly versatile and very, very powerful from what we've seen. I will die on this hill if I have to.

This was magic used to spite gods. We want this.
I want to see more of what they are capable of, and what the cost for using them will be.

I know it probably offends your magpie sensibilities, but the saying "all that glitters is not gold" is possibly quite relevant here. We'll see.

They can get spared if they survive 3 hangings, 1 for each of the Major gods of the Empire, the reason for sparing someone who survive a hanging, is that it's assumed it's gods will, so if they survive 3, we will take that to assume the gods want them alive.

Well I think we're getting the Moonsinger lady too and the Old Gods are a hivemind so yeah maybe if they survive that many hangings I'd be willing to let treason go. Going through that many might cause them to die of old age first though :p

I do, tbh. Considering that she's at one atm.

I don't expect her to get more than three. :p

I mean, I'm pushing hard for Marlays to get Chain Spell as a wish if we can. Should pay him back for spending XP. (In his eyes).

And not to mention all the undiscovered potential uses of runelore. I'm pretty confident about this considering just how much weight has been placed on this IC. We'll probably get the full range of possibilities by the end of the study action, at which point we'll be able to decide whether or not we want the feat.

But frankly, I'm after that feat already. That already opens up so many possibilities for us.

I firmly believe DP will make this amazing.

If the choice is between GRAND MARVELS, the feat, or "some metamagic or whatever nonsense", the chances of you actually winning that vote seem... remarkably slim, @Goldfish.

Do you know what that means? More fucking study actions wooooh. Also did we unlock any classes that we can start giving out? There was once a mention of the Witcher program and I am pretty sure the Old Gods have some weird drugs that do that... I do not condone drug use...

I do. Do all the drugs. And make us monster hunters. The delicious drug eating monster hunters. Who take in children! Wayward children... who need guidance.

*peers around for Conjunction of Spheres happening nearby*

Anybody seen the Wild Hunt riding through?

We'll see.

A lot of it depends on how many HD of sacrifices we have to pay to empower the runes, because you should know by now that there are going to be sacrifices required.

Part MMCCCXXV: Tools of the Trade
Tools of the Trade

Twentieth Day of the Fifth Month 293 AC

"While far away lands and the gleam of gold feature rather prominently in the reason for my visit, the core of the matter is actually politics," you begin to explain. Obvious perhaps but there is something to be said for cushioning sonorous announcements with a measure of smalltalk. "You certainly are aware of the... disagreement that is brewing between Lys and myself. Since my Legion has begun to tidy up the Disputed Lands and the Lyseni are already on the edge, more so even then your countrymen, I fear that the Disputed Lands will see another war very soon. As these matters tend to do, this will probably quickly fall into the all too common patterns of this region, though certainly with a quite different outcome."

"Tidy up..." Lady Phassen arcs a delicate eyebrow almost in challenge. "You make centuries of bloodshed sound like some wine spill at feast-time." Though her tone is light her gaze darkens. She feels far more deeply on this matter than she wishes to show.

"Pardon my lady, I did not mean to make light of the suffering that has long plagued these lands," you offer at once.

The quick apology, or perhaps the sincerity behind it, seems to have taken the lady aback. She nods in gracious acceptance then pauses to set her thoughts in order. "The Lyseni are indeed fools, though I did not think even them so foolish as to so lightly challenge a dragon, with naught but spears to their name," she continues. Though the words can easily be taken as merely a jab at Lys, you suspect them of deeper meaning. Perhaps she guessed something of your plans to provoke Lys at an opportune time.

Regardless, that is not something to confirm over tea with one who is not yet even an ally, though of course that shall hopefully be remedied today. Thus you continue in about as plain speaking as it polite: "The conquest of Tyrosh has shown me quite clearly how tiresome it is to establish proper control over a city when having no local allies to rely on. Especially when most of the ruling class is too stuck in the past to see the changes in the world around them."

To her credit the words only silence Lady Phassen for a moment: "One wonders how you approach seduction, Your Grace."

"Considerably slower," Dany giggles. You doubt anyone besides yourself would hear the edge of calculation to it. She turns abruptly sincere and gives the Myrish woman a sharp and searching look. "We cannot afford to move slowly, not with so many lives hanging in the balance, so many threats lurking just out of sight. I am certain you know of at least some of them, just as I am that you do not know all of them."

"Of course, this is developing rather fast, especially as our association is yet so young," you temporize. Time to offer the sweet with the bitter. "The world is changing ever faster. I have done well for myself by embracing said change instead of fighting it, looking for opportunities to rise ever higher. I approach you with this since I feel that we have that in common."

"A fair summation," the lady replies, committing to nothing yet.

It is not yet the time to push, you know. Taking a step back you say instead: "There is however one thing that I have yet to know about you. No one rises to the leadership of a guild as old and esteemed as yours by accident, and the shrewdness you have shown during our first meeting told clearly that it was neither nepotism. Yet I have to ask, before I make my full offer, what is your ambition? Is it the might granted by magic and to wield it like in the days of old? The power of office, a crown and a throne like many seek? Or is yours the heart of a merchant, seeking the gleam of gold through honest work and the freedom to enjoy it far from the trappings of rulership?"

"Must the lines be drawn so starkly then?" she answers your question with one of her own. "I desire power, for myself and my family after me, and I have yet to see a ruler who is a pauper, not even in the Sunset Kingdoms where it is said they scorn trade and any coin that is not plucked from the mud of the fields. As for magic..." she pauses to trail her hand through the air, leaving in its wake motes of blasting light and twisting shadow. "I see it as a tool, one that is of greater use to a ruler than perhaps any other." With a smile she adds. "I cannot imagine the conclusion would be novel to one of your talents."

What do you answer?

OOC: Solid successes so far, especially with Daenerys pitching in to help. The answer above seems entirely honest to Viserys and spoken without the intent to deceive, though it is obviously not sharing everything about lady Phassen.

I think you are not taking into consideration what crowd is pushing for those runes.

Huh? We use tower to transport army nearby to city. Army comes round corner and stop in sight of Myr. TD Viserys and some party members walk up and demand the surrender of Myr. Our current contacts either make themselves scarce if we can't get Myr to surrender, or help push for that option if it is possible.

And how long are you giving them to make this decision?
How long does a ritual take? Or hostage taking, spiteful murder, information and resource destruction etc?

We'll see.

For massive things like the Wall, sure, since it literally has a reservoir of power, but regular application of runes like when you're making a runestaff honestly should not require sacrifices at all.

I hope not, but you don't often get to bypass normal requirements without having to pay some sort of cost.

I don't mind using sacrifices to empower runes, but there are only so many sacrifices to go around and we're always finding more uses for them.

It's crafting at its core. Empowered, sure, and a lot more versatile due to the potential power, but we should only need sacrifices if we want to do something massive. Regular application of runecrafting truly should not need anything.
