Then part of our agreement should state from the very beginning that all Valyrian Dragon eggs be turned over to us for safe-keeping, except for an agreed upon number. Maybe three?
If we could pull that off I wouldn't object, but one thing for sure -- every last dragon rider will be under the direct control and supervision of the Crown, no exceptions.

@Snowfire, my point was more that there was a serious lore vs engine divide already. The KoS was comically weak for a quasi-deity, likely because the PC caped before epic levels.

Hm...

Maybe an omake where Viserys wakes up as the shard-bearer?

Hmm...that would make sense. To be fair, there was a boatload of circumstantial modifiers weakening him at the point that you actually fought him, though.

You mean Viserys as he is now? That would just be cruel, but I could see it happening. Interdimensional disturbance from the interactions between the Sword and the KoS when they went up against each other. Would you go from the very beginning, or somewhere else?

Edit: Tossing him in at the climax of the Battle of CK could be fun. I've done that before in fanfic, but that was me actually having Deekin act like his level, and then summon his old Boss. You know, the one you could end up having turned into a demigod in the epilogue of HotU.

You can't just tease us with that and not provide with a link!

Part MMCLXXX: Of Echoes and Reflections
Of Echoes and Reflections

Fourth Day of the Fourth Month 293 AC

Zherys had nodded in equanimity when you explained that you would offer the ritual to awaken petrified dragon eggs on the day of his ascension, and so he accepts your questions and critiques on the bare bones plan he had presented. It quickly becomes clear that while the plan is simple it is clearly not lacking.

The freedmen reinforcements are to float down the Rhoyne and debark near the Long Bridge, ready to march into the inner city, hopefully to cheers. In the meantime Mysterium mages would be split among lightning quick attacks on known conspirator ritual sites, with a larger but less experienced contingent providing arcane support for the Banners just as they had done during the long march up the Rhoyne. The High Speaker himself was to lead this company to balance out the lack of experience and protect against any greater fiends.

As you delicately bring up the fact that not all fiends that move that day may be begotten of the Pit, the magister seems almost ready to smirk with satisfaction were his character to allow such a gauche expression. "The mark on Elaena's soul has been expunged though the grace of the Meraxes-Who-Was-And-Shall-Be-Again," he explains. "It cost her a measure of her magic, of her very soul's fire, but in the end she lost less than she gained from the bargain and is content for it."

It feels odd to say the least to hear such things from another, to have to wonder what bargain Zherys made with the echo of divinity Dany had felt in the temple. For now you content yourself in asking where the priests are to be during the planned fighting.

"The Lady of Soldiers loves not the wars that pit brother against brother and forbids her priests from taking part in them. Fortunately the obligation to protect her holy places is even stricter, allowing them to protect the temple at need." Here Zherys pauses. "If all goes well they will provide succor to mind and body both once the battle is done. Otherwise..."

"You'll all be too dead to care?" Maelor jests lightly.

"Not quite," the Volantine sorcerer continues. "I have ensured that several acolytes are well away from the temple, with hidden cashes of lore near at hand. The same is true of those Mysterium sorcerers who do not yet have the strength of mind and magic for open battle."

"Where would they have gone, should it come to fleeing?" you ask curiously.

"The hinterlands to rally support among the slaves." The reply is slow, almost unwilling, and little wonder. Organizing a slave revolt is about the furthest thing from Zherys' goals and character. Seeing the surprised expressions around the table, even Teana's, he adds curtly: "I would see the Queen of Cities dead to a dagger in the heart before I allowed her to be defiled by the tanar'ri."

What do you do next?

OOC: A little short, but hopefully it covers what you guys wanted to know.

FUUUUUUUUCK.

Meraxes is too important and too powerful to simply eat by now.
Dammit, we should have acted at the very first opportunity, but you were all too scared of pissing of some mages.
Now we have a soon-to-be-reborn god instead of an upgrade.

Heh, the Tana'ri.. bringing people together.

Speaking of Motb.. did anyone ever succeed in forging that +12 to all stats amulet? ...I never got it right.

I would have liked to slurp up the lingering energies of a dying goddess, but it could have gone very badly had we made the attempt. We could be at war with Volantis right now, and with nothing to show for it.

At least Meraxes seems like a reasonable sort of deity so far. The scraps of her doctrine Zherys just shared are promising.

We could speak to Meraxes and see if we can have a Yss type deal.

We'd accelerate her recovery immensely and another god beholden to us can only be a good thing.

You could still try. It would not quite be the craziest thing you ever attempted.

Night guys. See you tomorrow with the rest of the Volantis action and then... well you might have free days depending on what you decide.

Yes, we should do that. We could also offer to build a temple to her in Sorcerer's Deep. She forbids her followers from warring against one another, which is much more restrictive to the Volantines than it is for us, especially as it would keep her Clerics from working against us should Zherys ever get frisky.

Do we have anyone that can support the coup? Malarys is an obvious choice, he can be disguised as a friendly cleric.
Maybe Glyra? If anyone can fuck Up any ritual and other carefully planned countermeasures, its her.

Just keep in mind there is a difference between war and intrigue. Only civil war is taboo to the priests of Meraxes.

Viserys in Dragon Form, Malarys riding him into combat (though not in Lya's Chainmail Battle Bikini!). That would make a serious statement in Zherys' favor.

I like my energy fields smaller than head-size.

If she can break an infernal contract by power, rather than loopholes, she's definitly more than we can digest.

My theory is she shaved off the portion of soul the contract was attached to. Lya could probably do the same with some research.

That would probably cause permanent level drain. I wonder how much she lost?
