We helped Dorne a lot.

But yeah, I think a great part of all of this worth mentioning is the initial tumult Braavos could have gone through went relatively well thanks to our actions, so when we left they had the institutional framework ready for new mages to fill-in the gap, and no 'large' threats on the board at the time thanks to us killing most of them.

So it appears they want Panacea, some kind of escape button, and discount Mind Blank (well, something good for anti-divination).

Though I'm starting to think maybe they should just adopt our memory capturing techniques for OpSec.

They would need a warded room for that to work, given they would have to discuss the plans before erasing them.

@Goldfish, how much would an item of permanent Ghost Sound cost us to make?
That seems one possible more-or-less reasonable way to deal with "no sound" problemof our TV-shiny.
Well, that or Sculpt Sound. But level is higher here and the effects aren't much better in any way relevant to making a TV.

Ghost Sound might not have the flexibility we need and Sculpt Sound is relatively high level for our purposes; crafting a single item with the spell wouldn't be a burden, but we would want a lot of them, perhaps dozens.

I believe Auditory Hallucination might do the trick, however, if DP is willing to let us take some liberties with it. @DragonParadox, would this be enough to add audio to any "televised" Watcher broadcasts, if the viewing venue is equipped with an Auditory Hallucination item? Or would Ghost Sound be enough?

I like to imagine he meant berating, as in, actually laying out a list of grievances with cognizant talismans haunted by some Sarnori asshole who wiped out their tribe (for being Dothraki assholes).

@Azel thoughts encouraged me to go back over our conversations with the Archons. While Yrael has been... not great. I will point out that he is working on improving. One of the first and most powerful things he summoned from the mounting heavens was an advisor. A damn good one as well.

Surprisingly the spirit seems to agree with you. "Rare is the knowledge that is of itself so foul and harmful to the mind that it should be consigned to the flame... rarer by far than most mortals think. Ignorance of evil is no shield from temptation, but a weakness to exploit. It is in knowing the full horror of the enemy that any sane thinking mind is best armed and armored against it."

"But surely you can't just spread such..." your mother trails off, not knowing how one is supposed to go about disagreeing with a spirit born of heaven's light.

"Certainly not," the Naeron replies as it floats close to one of the shelves. "To understand, not know it more than what the eyes see or the ears hear. It requires rigorous training of the mind as much as the spirit, a burden that should only be carried by those who dedicate themselves to the task."

This^ This guy^ Training a specialist squad of devil and demon handlers is exactly what I want to do to break into those fields.

My second thought is that he might feel too indebted to us.

"I have taken counsel with the Sea Dragon of Tolos and between us we have agreed not to move at once against the Ghiscari, for we have not the strength to keep what we might take yet and they have fallen into squabbling among themselves over the defeat, but I would not sit idly by while half the world lies in foul chains of bondage," the Lord of Mantarys explains his current circumstances. "It is my thought that I and the mightiest among my fellows could aid in your own battles, be it against mortal men or undying horrors."

The offer catches you wholly off guard. Lords do not just offer their services half a world away... then you catch up with your own thoughts and it is all you can do not to laugh, for have you not done this very thing many times over? Just as you can Yrael can return to his seat with but a thought, and he can do so as often as he likes, for the magic is a part of his very being.

We explicitly formed this alliance so that we could help him engage in threat management. But... he never asked us for help with anything, in fact this here... this seems a bit... too helpful? No looking back even Viserys points out that it is a little... odd. His city has come to the edge of destruction multiple times. So his offer is to help us with our fight?

The last thing I am going to point out. You are 100% right about outsider induced stupidity. In this case.

Yrael was probably the equivalent of a major or captain in heavens army. He is not, nor was he ever intended to be an administrative leader of mortals, or a diplomat who can trade verbal blows with the likes of us.

He was not designed to think critically about peoples behavior. Even more so than regular outsiders I mean.

Now, that's no excuse. But... I imagine much of Relath's apparent competence is due to Breath Takers wisdom. Yrael has an even more restrictive mindset and not even that advantage. Maybe like... I dont know. Hes probably already plowed through most of the differences between Archons and humans on his own without anyone to explain anything... *shudder*.

Anyway. If we decide to put any more super outsider/dragon/abomination/undead on big chairs with big hats we should assign them an "advisor to mortality".

No that sounds like an assassin. WIP title.

No, keep the pseudo-Assassin in place.

If you want to keep them alive, someone who knows how to assassinate someone to stop the assassins, and if you want them very dead, someone who can turn from advising them to killing them. :)

Not sure how we can help her with the getaway point.

Word of Recall is too high-leveled.
Imbuing doesn't really work with good teleport spells or Windwalk either.

What other options are there?

Maybe a seed that they swallow which will transport them back to the Weirwood? Giving an escape button which can be used for tactical decision making beyond "BUG THE FUCK OUT TO BASE" is a bit advanced, but one that requires a little more logistics than "activate temporary SLA". Can also be separated from them, though if their agents lose track of their escape option like that then they kind of deserve to die.

Wouldn't that, in essence, be a one-shot Word of Recall?

Maybe we're overthinking this. Dimension Hop's 75 feet maximum is probably enough to effect an escape. That would place anyone about three and a half average room lengths away from someone.

There is stuff out there that can be quite mobile, but in general terms, anything that can spam dimension door or teleport is probably in the threat category of "could depopulate an entire city ward if they put their mind to it" and thus probably something you should be sending your best and brightest against, whom if they were not capable of killing it, no one in the city would be able to anyway, barring flighty allies of convenience like Fey lords, so you should thus die with your boots on at the very least, not run like cowards.

If you're doing it out of civic duty, at any rate. :lol

hp/dex/str to imbued dimension door for a day? Travel is one of their things, but an effect that lasts away from the tree would be costly.

This, for healing:

Secondary Effect 3: Modified Healing Warmth Effect (Heal 1d4 points of damage per 12 points of protection sacrificed, 120 minute duration) - To gain use of the spell, a recipient must make a small blood sacrifice to the OG to gain this effect, inflicting upon themselves 1d4 Hit Point damage and 1 point of Strength damage which must be allowed to heal naturally. No one can gain the effect more than once per week, and no individual can be healed by a single casting of Healing Warmth more than once.

And anti-divination methods are... for someone else to find :p

@Duesal, told you we should have added the IB talk to the vote.

*shakes folder full of proposals*
I don't see the problem? This is day 18, and we still have until the 21st to do everything we need in Braavos. The second we're done with the Silver Eye and growing their Heart Trees we can just drop by the Iron Bank and you can do your business with Lady Uraka. Lya and Rina already being there to work on the wards doesn't impede us in any way.
@Duesal, How about making 2 trees for them?
The one we made up earlier, with a shitton of greatly useful Divination effects, and one for their other needs stated in this update?

...On the other hand, I kind of really want 2nd tree in Braavos being "General-Public-Use" and not "SIlver-Eye-Use".
We have a total of 8 Daemon Bows left (each with a CL of 5). That's definitely enough to grow one tree, but if we want two trees we're going to need to use the cursed items the Silver Eye's hoarding (which are now our cursed items). @DragonParadox?

And yes, we have Rohar's CL 15 dagger, but using that in a ritual that has a chance of rejection with zero compensation leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I kind of want to sacrifice that dagger to the Merling King instead.

Did I get carried away again? This is a powerful tree, IMO, but an expensive one to use if you aren't willing to make a blood sacrifice to it. The Holy Water alternative seems like an acceptable solution to me, though I don't know if @DragonParadox would agree. As it stands now, I believe the only Cleric capable of creating Holy Water that meets the criteria is Rina, with Dany being a possibility if she learns Bless Water.

The Tree of the All-Seeing Eye

"A surprisingly youthful face, it's eyes rimmed in blood red sap, gazes at you suspiciously from its place carved into the bone white trunk of this Heart Tree.
Effects:
CL 20 Hallow Effect
Secondary Effect 1: Gift of the Forest - One may pluck a single blessed leaf from the Tree of the All-Seeing Eye as often as once per week. Once removed from the Heart Tree, this leaf remains fresh and supple, but crumbles to dust when seven days have passed. If this leaf is consumed by the individual who picked it, they immediately recover 2d4 Hit Points. Should anyone else consume the leaf, however, they are Nauseated for 2d4 rounds and Sickened for 1d4 hours.
Secondary Effect 2: Cloak of the Stream - To gain the Cloak of the Stream, one must paint the symbol of the All-Seeing Eye on their forehead using the sap of the Heart Tree, then water its roots with two doses of Holy Water blessed by a Cleric who enjoys the favor of the Old Gods. Upon gaining the Cloak, the symbol painted on one's forehead fades from view, but the sticky blood red sap remains present. Should it be washed away or deliberately marred, the Cloak is prematurely removed. As an alternative to Holy Water, one can instead make a small blood sacrifice, inflicting 3 points of Hit Point damage and 1 point of Strength damage which must be healed naturally. The Cloak created by blood sacrifice lasts for a full week and is not ended should the symbol of the All-Seeing Eye drawn in sap be removed or damaged.
Secondary Effect 3: Aegis of Stone - To gain the Aegis of Stone, one must meditate before the Tree of the All-Seeing Eye for 24 hours, silently beseeching the Old Gods for protection. During this time, rare and expensive incense worth 50 IM must be burned and the roots of the tree watered with ten doses of Holy Water blessed by a Cleric who enjoys the favor of the Old Gods. Once the Aegis is invoked, it remains dormant until triggered, Dispelled, or one year passes. As an alternative to Holy Water, one can instead make a blood sacrifice, inflicting 5 points of Hit Point damage and 1d4 points of Strength damage, which must be healed naturally. The Aegis invoked by blood sacrifice is bestowed after only ten minutes of meditation and persists indefinitely, until activated or Dispelled.

The biggest problem is needing a cleric who has the favor of the Old Gods -- and as you noted, there are a grand total of two, both of whom are firmly stationed in Sorcerer's Deep and not making holy water. Why not just have it be normal holy water? The Old Gods won't say no to their trees getting watered. I really like the Gift of the Forest thing.

@DragonParadox, for their divination problem, could we just permanency Mage's Private Sanctum in the Wind House using diamond dust? That should take care of a good chunk of the problem.

I mean, even we aren't divination-proof yet, and we're a mid-to-high level party. The most we have regarding anti-divination that isn't stationary is Ser Richard's pseudo-mindblank, and Xor's amulet which wards against minor divination.

... @Goldfish, how much would that ward against minor divination cost?

Problem is that we might forget about it entirely.

OG don't have clerics.
I would very much prefer a costiler, but more available healing method for the tree, myself.

  1. You could yes
  2. Technically Tyene has non-detection for mobile, but not foolproof, divination countering.

I promise not to forget. This is the Iron Bank, half the reason we're here. After the Heart Trees this is the list of actions in order of priority:

Iron Bank
Windward Society
Braavos Underground
Uthero
Fairwinds
Picking up Glyra & Maelor
Feel free to push it back to tomorrow. I would prefer to have the Friday evening to crunch the numbers on it all.

Mages Private Sanctum only stops Divination, such as Scrying, that is aimed at the contents of the Sanctum. That's useful, but won't prevent most Divination spells from warning you about incoming danger, should you think to check.

Nondetection won't necessarily prevent this either, but it covers a wide range of potential Divination effects and it is mobile. The best strategy for them at the moment would be a permanent Mage's Private Sanctum on Wind House, plus use of the Nondetection blessing from the Heart Tree prior to performing an op.

I don't think limiting the Holy Water to that created by Clerics favored by the OG is too restrictive (loos like DP agrees). The OG allowing the substitution at all is a pretty big win, IMO. Rina could easily create a couple dozen doses of Holy Water a day if given a chance to prepare. This being Braavos, they wouldn't even balk if we sold them the special Holy Water at a small markup.
